Golden Bay Kayaks has been doing this from Tata Beach since 2010 and it shows. Family-run, genuinely friendly, and sitting right on the quieter northern end of the Abel Tasman coast. Less traffic than the main tourist strip. Seals, limestone coves, and the kind of pace that suits a family just as well as it suits a solo paddler looking for a couple of days out.
The guides come up consistently across reviews. Knowledgeable about the area, safety-conscious without making a big deal of it, and good with kids which is not always a given. If conditions are sketchy when you turn up, they'll read the situation and adjust the plan. That kind of flexibility is worth a lot. A few reviewers also mention a beach morning tea stop, which I appreciate in a guided tour.
Pricing is noticeably more reasonable than some of the bigger Abel Tasman kayak operators, and you can go guided or hire independently for multi-day trips if you know what you're doing. Use promo code RANKERS for 10% off. Helps keep us going too, so cheers for that.

Guided tours operate with specific start and return times: 2 Hour Tour (1pm-3pm), Half Day Guided Tour (~8:45am-~12:30pm), Family Focus Guided Tour (8:45am-12:30pm), and Bespoke Eco Private Guided Tour (typically 8:45am-12:45pm). Independent Kayak Rentals are available for half-day (~8:30am-~1:00pm) or full-day (~8:30am-~4:30pm). Multi-day rentals require a safety briefing at 3pm the day before departure. Sit-on-Top Kayak Hire is available hourly, half-day, or full-day. Passes allow for online booking at flexible times. |

We decided to do this trip because of the price (about half the price of some tours) and because it was a little further off the beaten track than the other Abel Tasman kayak tours.
The guided tour was professional but very friendly at the same time. We were emailed photos following the tour at no extra cost. The equipment was great and the actual tour route was beautiful. The home made morning tea was really yummy too!
We'd recommend this tour to anyone wanting to do a kayak tour in the area.

Absolutely fantastic experience and a must do if you are visiting the Tasman!
Fun for the whole family with great new owners and knowledgeable guide that held the attention of our 7 year old for 4+ hours (a challenge as any parent will know).

I had an awesome time.
The scenery was beautiful and we saw lots of seals. Paul was really informative and I enjoyed the tea break on the beach. The photos he sent of the trip were a good memento.

Really fantastic. The guide was very knowledgeable and safety conscious. We were very comfortable following his lead. Of course the scenery was spectacular, a highlight of our vacation in New Zealand.

Very helpful, friendly staff.
We booked a freedom tour. When we arrived it was very windy and wavy. They explained that it would be to dangerous to go alone. So we get a family guidet tour in the morning and in the afternoon with some more experience, we could do a short freedom trip.
Great experience for the kids and the parents!!

Great family day - even held attention of teenage boys !
Paul had lots of interesting information to impart throught the tour and safety conscious. None of us had kayak'd before but no problem at all. Seals up close were an added bonus - definitely a highlight of the holiday for us.
