This campsite is on the popular Billygoat Circuit.
It is a 1 hour walk from the road end on Billygoat Circuit (across the unbridged Kauaeranga River) and a 2 hour walk from the Pinnacles.

  • Billygoat Track closed

    Billygoat Track is closed due to a large slip. 

    Pinnacles Hut and Dancing Camp are still accessible via Webb Creek Track.

  • Restricted road access to Kauaeranga Valley tracks

    Cyclone Vaianu has damaged the Wainora Overbridge – road access is now restricted as far as the Booms Flat Campsite.

    Cookson Kauri Walk and Murrays Walk hikers need to park cars in the Booms Flat Campsite and make their way to the trailhead on foot. This will add approximately 2.5 km (one way) to the hike.

    Billygoat Circuit track is likely to be slippery/rough, proceeed with caution.

Bookings are required and can be made online, with same-day bookings available until 8 pm if space permits. Bookings for the 2026/27 season open on May 14, 2026. It is advisable to book well in advance for the peak period from December 1 to February 28 and for public holiday weekends.

  • This is in the wrong category.

    1. It’s not free you need a backcountry pass. 2. There is a 3 hour hike to get to it. There is a serviced hut for $15 a night here. Well worth it though.
