Sea Kayaking and the Raw Coast
If you'd rather be in the water than on it, sea kayaking around the peninsula gives you a completely different read on the place. The wildlife experience on the water is real. Sea lions, seals, the big bird life. Aramoana on the other side of the peninsula also gets a wrap for surf when the conditions line up. Raw, uncrowded, good for the keenos.
For fishing, there are saltwater charters operating out of Karitane and along the coast if that's your thing. This stretch of coastline has enough variety to keep most water people busy for a couple of days.
