If i could give it 0 stars or Negative stars I would!!
we went there on our recent holiday in New Zealand and used Campermate to find this recommended holiday park/campsite. We had a van and needed a powered station. It was 22 dollars per person. The man (Mike) who greeted us was lovely, although quite racist towards me (which I only realised later). The site itself was nothing special, their selling point was canoes and fishing and smoking of fish available - there was no canoeing, no fish and the smoking facilities were not available. The worst however, is being threatened by Jeanette (assuming the wife as she never identified herself), who came into the kitchen at just before 10PM demanding we leave or else she will chuck us out. All we wanted was to cook beans (which were cooked) and just quickly use the toaster so asked if can we just turn things off and clean up and we'll leave in the next 5 minutes. This was greeted was threat of police and senseless arguments from her, with eventually demanding that we leave 'her' property or else she will call the police. We then politely said we will leave if she refunds us the money, which she said NO to and still demanded us to leave immediately. We didn't get dinner, and most of all creepily, she fished our uncooked dinner out the bin, followed us in the dark to our van, and then disappeared before we could confront her. I felt SO uncomfortable and upset and scared she would damage our van, we packed up and left immediately.
100% DO NOT GO HERE if you value your happiness and positive experience at as a camper. The staff were utterly rude and racist, the facilities were old, useless and not clean (the BBQ was rank!). it was a small site! Worst night of our whole holiday. Not worth your time and money this campsite.
Stick to DOC sites or free sites!!! Much prettier scenery, staff and less cost.
This is one of several reviews from this reviewer and the facts change each time.
The cost is $21 each per night. We reject any suggestion of racism but I guess when you are a serial reviewer and irrational the truth is not important.
The kayaks were available, as they are every day but the launching area was restricted due to the two cyclones. You have to catch the fish yourself which is why you received the free fishing rod and the fish smoker is working - you should have asked our advice if you couldnt read the instructions.
This reviewer forget to mention the note they left me "Thanks for the site and the free fishing rod". This was written on the Guest Information sheet which has the closing hours for the kitchen highlighted. There is also a sign with the operating hours. This is for the safety and enjoyment of all guests. When Jeanette tried to lock up the male guest who was drinking, became abusive and refused to leave. After several requests Jeanette told them unless they vacated the kitchen a Trespass Notice would be issued. They had already thrown their dinner in the bin before Jeanette tried to lock up - so who bins their dinner or there was another issue. When emptying the rubbish Jeanette noticed their dinner which appeared to be cooked and still warm.
The Park is old but most of the facilities have been renovated and as you can see from other reviews, clean.
The guests were on a prime streamside site 8m x 13m - hardly small.
I don't understand why you would feel scared from a small, older female when you admit you wanted to confront her.
I sure most people reading this review will compare it with the other positive reviews.
