Can’t complain about the view.
Firm, hard pebble surface to drive onto the beach and you can park looking directly out to sea, Kapiti island and the South Island. Toilets are too far away so you need to be prepared to use your own toilet.
Four bars mobile coverage with One.nz and 72Mbps download on Netspeed.

What an amazing free campsite!
Stunning view across the lake, lots of places to park, fantastic bike trail out to Atiamura Dam, clean long drops and hot showers. Major thumbs up to South Waikato District council for providing and maintaining this facility.
Also, for anybody with a drone, you can fly here without any permit.
Bit of an "occupation" going on at the moment but you can still go in and park down there.

This is a very pleasant site with rubbish and recycling, very central to town.
Pretty quiet overnight and fills up quickly. Also, people parking over capacity and in spots that aren’t for cars let alone camper vans. People, when you do this you put the facility at risk. Obey the rules, there are plenty of other free sites around.

Nice new facilities, great location and fantastic showers.
Stayed at a powered site in a campervan and they have nice long freshwater hoses right there very convenient.
Really enjoyed staying here, one of the very best.
