I’ve camped all over the North and South Island, and this has been the first and only threatening situation.

I checked every freedom camping spot in Wairoa and this one felt the most comfortable—until 3 a.m. A group ran through banging on doors, slamming the porta-potty, blasting music, swearing, laughing, and likely driving from site to site based on reviews. It was chaotic, loud, and unsafe. The area does not feel friendly or safe. I would never stay here again.
