Enjoy your time before the sandflies find you :)
Park at the electric station, follow the 4WD Track (you can walk parts through the forest, but quite muddy and the 4WD track works fine) up to the abandoned bridge. Then stay on this side of the river, walk trough the forest down to the riverbed of Wanganui river, cross the small river and you are there. Google maps location works perfect, just don't trust the satellite picture for water/forest/riverbed as it's probably variable.

Muriwai Beach Campground
Beautiful campground.
Unlimited hot shower (even to hot, after weeks of cold showers), facilities are super new and clean. Kitchen with hot water for doing the dishes and everything else you need.
Great beach with black sand and beautiful sunset right in front.
24$ for one person (unpowered site) is a great price for that. I'd definitely come again :)

Little Waipa Reserve
Beautiful spot next to the river, more than enough sites under the trees.
2 long drop toilets, 2 hot showers (push to get water, seems to be no limit, or at least enough to have a relaxed shower), trash cans.
And all that for free :)
