Lovely spot.
Nice big reserve full of shade from the mighty pohutakawa dotted throughout.
There is an outside shower at the toilets primarily for rinsing the salt off but nice for a cool down and quick rinse.
Nice quirky café across the road.
Quiet spot.

Tararu Beachfront North Reserve
Nice spot.
Close to town.
Got woke on second night at 1.30am with locals playing music in nearby carpark. But you get that sometimes. Close to town so likely a bit of a hangout spot.
Picnic table and shade by spot.

Whittle Reserve, Colville
Quiet little spot even though its on the roadside.
Plenty of trees and shade on the reserve and a picnic table.
The freedom camping spots are in the carpark. Unfortunately the typical signage isn't present showing where you park between the arrows.
This concerned me. So I emailed Thames Council and got confirmation that indeed you can park and stay the night there with the same rules as other spots.
I felt more comfortable armed with this email.

Little Waikawau Reserve
Stunning spot to camp and fish from or use as a base to fish from.
People fishing out of kayaks, tinny, off the beach and with drones......cant say much was caught, but a little.
Shade only at each end under pohutakawa.

Good access.
Clean. But no hose just the tap.
Second time today.....I guess I might need to carry my own hose for washroom and cassette rinse.
No where does it say the water is potable.

Tuapiro Reserve
Nice spot.
Carparks with toilets.
Nice beach and bushwalk.
Im just not into parking in sandwich like situation.
Unfortunately no shade.
For people that need security its got that. By lights and cameras.

Narrows Park Camp
Im so pleased I came across this little gem.
Very safe and secure.
Its primarily a Christian Camp for the kiddies but when possible public are welcome to stay. There was a group here when I stayed but I found it pleasant hearing the kids playing on the field and having fun. Nice energy to have around.
Reasonably priced and a good option to stay just out of Hamilton.
Lovely friendly staff.....would definitely stay again, thanks for having me.

McMillan Road Reserve
Lovely spot by the river.
Good swimming hole. Popular local spot in summer.
Plenty of wind protection from trees.
Also a fair bit of shade from the trees.
Fairly quiet peaceful place.
