Can’t think of one negative about this place! It is fairly small (there are only 6 campervan sites) but that makes it so nice and quiet, and the sites are well spaced out so it doesn’t feel cramped at all. But just make sure you book in advance!
One of the greatest things about this place is the guy who runs it - he was so friendly and took us on a tour around the site (we haven’t experienced this at any other campsite on the north island) and was generally just a great guy, he let us chew his ear off with questions about New Zealand for ages! The facilities are great - in particular the kitchen and lounge which have such a great home-like feel. Whilst I cooked my dinner I even put on the record player and listened to some music. The shower I had was hot and the pressure was amazing. We had a site more towards the back but the man who runs it offered us to move to a space where we would better be able to see the sea or showed us there is an area of grass at the front which is able to be used by all guests. We chose to keep the back space as it was nice for privacy away from the road and put our chairs in the front grass. We had a few beers and watched the sun go down behind the mountains over the sea, it was dreamy. We haven’t ventured off the site but spoke to some other guests and they went for a nice walk where there is a lookout over the ocean nearby, the drive into wellington itself is short as well, maybe 15 minutes, and if you drive in the other direction there is a lovely beach (scorching bay) which we spent some of our day at also. Finally, there is a cafe right next to the site, which we intend to use tomorrow morning for a coffee before we get the ferry.
Overall a really really lovely stay, my favourite campsite of the north island and of our travels so far. Felt very at home!
The place and especially the host are absolutely amazing.
The campground is right at the sea front and there are even little penguins living right there and if you are lucky you can see them at night.
The showers the toilets and the kitchen are very clean.
The host takes his time showing you around the campground (in person) and explains everything in detail.
It is simply one of the best experiences that we had during our trip.
