My family (4) hired the Budgy Familia 6. It was great! - It's not expensive and was as budget as they said it was - but it was clean and everything worked! Staff were friendly and easy to deal with. The kids were given toys from the owner which was a nice touch.

If you are after a simple camper without the bells and whistles then Id recommend Budgy Campers.

Thanks for having us!

Hi Geoff,

The Budgy 6 seems to be a very popular Camper this season! I think because of the value for money. Yes - it's older, but the price is right - and sleeps a family of 6 easily.

Great to meet you Geoff,

We had a awesome time in our 2 x Budgy sleeper touring around New Zealand- 22 days.
Kitchen was great and had everything we needed, bed was soft and clean, car was well maintained. We were very happy with the conditions of the rentals, staff were helpful and friendly, and pick-up/drop-off was fast and easy.
We would definitely recommend Budgy.

the stuff is very friendly, but I had a lot of problems with the budgy sleeper campervan. it was an old one in a really bad condition. I lost a lot of days because of waiting at the garage for a few times. they told me there'll we a refund for the time I lost, but I didn't. I'm sorry, because the stuff is really nice and helpful but I wouldn't rent a van with euro/budgy campers again.

Hi Jasmin,
Thank you for your review.

Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you and and discussed with you at the time of your hire.

Older van with older van problems. We got exactly what we reserved but after a week we noticed that the ceiling of the van was full of mold. Also the engine light went on and off a few times throughout the road trip. Frustration mounted at the return of the vehicle - the Christchurch office told us "at 3pm", when in fact it was 2:30 to not miss the airport shuttle. They are very strict about their policy and we had to take a taxi.

Budgy Campers responds:

Hi Martha,

Thank you for your review and we are sorry about your experience. The van has been taken through a vigorous winter check and is back up and running top notch.

Our shuttle time runs on a schedule as we have other customers drop off and collect at the airport which is prearranged. These times are outlined at the collection of the vehicle so we can ensure you are here for your transfer. Sorry it was not interrupted this way.

We do hope you enjoyed your trip of New Zealand.

We rented a 6 berth motorhome from Euro Campers for a 17 day circuit of the South Island. I was surprised when we picked the van up that all the final paperwork was actually with Budgy Campers and not Euro with whom I had made the booking. The van was 8 years old and definitely showing its age with a number of items either not working or broken at pick up (eg: water storage gauges). The water pump broke down after one day and although the company were quick to find a repairer, we lost half a day whilst it was fixed. The brakes were definitely in need of a service and one of the rear passenger seats was only attached to the vehicle with some old velcro (!) and slid off on corners or when braking. Clearly dangerous. The motor would take 2-3 minutes to start from cold due to a fault with the glow plugs and the engine malfunction indicator light came on many times during the trip - making me wonder whether we were about to be stranded somewhere. I can’t help thinking that this is a van that is nearing the end of its rental life. The van did not meet our expectations nor I believe the Company's own marketing materials. Overall we noted a total of 18 issues with the van - 5 of which were of a critical or dangerous nature. Despite going through these issues with staff when we returned the van and, as requested, emailing the list to the Company on the following day (over a week ago now), I have had no response from the Company. It seems like they just don't care. The condition of the van significantly impacted the enjoyment of our trip and based on our experience, I cannot recommend Euro (or Budgy) Campers.

Budgy Campers responds:

Hi David,

We are sorry that you did not understand that you had booked with Budgy Campers. This is outlined in your quote and on your booking confirmation letter. The camper is older, however you do only pay the price for the budget camper.

Thank you for your feedback on issues with the Camper. The issues you have identified have been noted and sent direct to the mechanical team to check.

All of our Vehicals do go through the mechanical checks and we are sorry you had this experience.

Budgy Campers
