Earl is a great host! Very nice and funny. Even though it says you have to book beforehand, you actually don‘t. Earl will give you a place. We came in the afternoon and he drove his car away, so we could get a place with a beautiful view. It really is amazing, and there were other spots available too, but more and more campers come in the evening.
There are cold showers and Toilets which are ok. Earl does also have a place where you can cook and do the dishes, plus some picnic benches. It isn’t new or anything, but the view and Earl himself male up for it, plus there is still everything you need.
We met a lot of new people.
It is a great place to stay for 10 dollars!
Beautiful, low-key area. Earl is a great guy, very hospitable and informative. If he offers, take him up on a sunrise walk. Earl’s camp provides the basics for campervan/tent camping. Lots of young travelers with great stories.
Earl is hands down one of the kindest and most caring hosts I've had since being in NZ! He has a beautiful property overlooking the coast, and it makes you feel quite at home. I would highly recommend this place, Earl is such a cool guy, so take the time to get to know him!
Stayed in NZ 12 days did Northland, Coromandel, Rotorua, Lake Taupo, Taranaki, and Raglan. This was the best, most genuine spot we stayed. The owner Earl, took us out for a morning tour of the town and gave us some cool tips on some hikes and things to do. Very cool outdoor kitchen, lounge area. Has a great hostel feel to it with lots of young campers.
No wifi, no powered sites.
The owner makes it a special, personalised stay. Venture out and chat to him, he's very interesting.
Friendly location, Earl the owner will look after you. It rained last night and he allowed a German family to camp and cook inside a barn area on site at no extra cost. Great views across the bay, its' a basic site but great price, what more do you need other than friendly no nonsense place. Steep concrete drive in but plenty of flat areas to camp and park. BBQ area available seating indoors and outdoors.
Nice camping spot with a great view but don't expect too much from the facilities ($10 per head and only campervans can fit).
Toilets and cold shower available (a bit smelly).
BBQ and running water to refill tanks.
Earl is a very nice guy that will help you any way he can.
The place got crowded after 6pm so book ahead.
