Good enough place to stop overnight but that's all. Good flat parking overlooking a sports field. Public toilets are in the library carpark 5 mins walk away. Noisy on a Saturday night with locals parking nearby to drink but I imagine it would be pretty quiet on a weekday.

The parking lot itself is just fine for one night. The town does not seem to be very welcoming to out of towners and is definitely not the safest place in the evening. The public toilets were locked by 8pm and we were approached by a few rough looking homeless men around our car in town. The nicest person to us was the gas station attendant (who was absolutely lovely) and recommended the only 2 interesting things to do here. Bathrooms are not close by & we woke up throughout the night tons of times to cars pulling up next to us blaring music & walking around the lot and then leaving. Didn't feel extremely safe here. Getting an okay review because the gas station attendant was amazing & the parking lot has nice green grass and a flat lot.

Nice place once the sun rises, bit dodgy at night as there is minimal lighting, only one street light at one end of the car park. No toilet facilities but only a 2 minute drive down the road near the New World which I didn’t mind. Had no problems here only the sound of cars driving pass as it’s located on a semi main road.
Nice, big area to park up in. No toilets, but toilets located 2 minute drive near the New World supermarket. Real dark at night, only one street light that lights up one end of the car park. Looks a bit dodgy at night, but had no problems, only problem was the noise coming from cars passing on the street it is located on.
We underestimated our return from Cape Reinga to Mangawhai so spent the night here. Good free spot overlooking sports fields. Big carpark but only 4 campers allowed overnight. You could hear cars and trucks passing the main road nearby but it didn't stop us sleeping. Not sure about the public toilets as we had a toilet in our camper but there is a picnic table to eat at. Not much to do in Kaikohe but we're checking out the nearby hot springs before we push on to Mangawhai this morning. Recommend this spot if you can't make it to your next destination. Great Chinese takeaway and fish and chips in the main road in the township.
Could be really worse. There are no facilities but some grass and not too much traffic. With a self contained vehicle it's a good spot to save some money.
Ff you are looking for a free spot to sleep and its 10pm, this one is maybe a spot for you. Otherwise there is nothing to see here. When we were sleeping here, some locals arrived and parked beside our van at midnight. They started yelling at each other. There is grass field were you can do sports.
