Easy to find, we went in March and there was heaps of room. Toilets are attached to the pub and very clean. No bins or showers though. Great place to stop on the way to Taupo, only 30mins. Had no reception though.
Nice level patch of grass for parking/camping. Tavern and pub for food and drinks. 24h toilets. Thumbs up!

Brilliant spot. Amazing food and clean toilet. No shower but worth the nights stop. Friendly locals and staff. Not many campers on the 20th Jan. Will be back for sure. Thanks for having this spot a freecamp spot.
We had a really lovely time at the Tihoi Tavern, the couple who run the place, Tony and Maria are lovely and there is a frew pool table! All the locals were really nice as well. I highly recommend it as a place to stop, they'll really make you feel at home!

Free, with 24h toilets. No WIFI
Easy drive to Taupo, closest and only spot in winter for non-self contained.
Essentially a grass pitch beside tavern, included takeway and basic needs.
Make sure to support the team, or thank them for making this spot available.
June 2018: A true blessing since Desert Road was closed and was detoured northwest of Lake Taupo. It was raining and made for a longer night. Not much petrol options until reached Taupo as many of the towns shutdown after dinner. Speaking of dinner, the campsite welcomes all and requests a meal is enjoyed in their tavern in return. The tavern is not open on Mondays, but still welcomed to camp. Bathrooms were nice on the left side and open 24 hours.
Unfortunately, we were unable to actually stay here due to car issues, but after arriving, and being stranded here for roughly 3 hours, the owners as well as locals were incredible. Offering information about where we should go next, must do's in NZ, as well as treating us to some smoked fish with the locals with no charge. Amazing people and very helpful, toilet facilities were well maintained, no complaints had we have been able to stay here.
Popular roadside tavern, with a small, level, free camping area to one side. Public flush toilets are nicely tiled and look fairly new, along with the general building, but could benefit from a good clean. Good food in the bar.
A great stop. The owners of the tavern are friendly and helpful. The camper parking area is private with nice views, and there is a clean toilet open 24 hours.
