Free place to park. Toilet facilities available when restaurant open. Current opening hours - Mon-Wed closed, Thurs-Sun open 10am-9pm.
Parking available at any time, just help yourself but must be fully self-contained as facilities not available 24/7.
Water available at front entrance tap, help yourself to the fresh spring water. Feel free to wander the property and see the farm animals. Owners live on-site so say g'day if you see them around :)
Dogs are welcome so long as they're on a leash and cleaned up after. You can also bring them in to the restaurant when it's open.
Jump on Roselands Waitomo Caves facebook page for covid updates and menus. Feel free to contact through there.
Plenty of room for parking, site is a little uneven in places but it's free so who's complaining?! ;p

Beautiful views, good food if you choose to go in or most people were cooking in the parking lot. Wifi is only turned on part of the hours, also bathrooms are not open 24/7, no showers or water fill up. It is very close to caving and black water rafting. Owners/staff very friendly and welcoming for a homey place.

Fantastic food, great location after the glow worm caves. Camping was in the car park but free and the staff were really friendly. They said we could park down the drive on a flatter bit if we couldn’t find a good spot, and it did get busy later on.

This beautiful spot up a long driveway away from the traffic is absolutely brilliant. There are glow worms to spot at night and the staff are just the most delightfully friendly people. Animals too check out for the kids, free WiFi and lovely views. I took a caravan up and even managed to park relatively flat. They also were extremely accommodating of our small fluffy dog.

Cracking spot. Very quiet but limited space so make sure you don’t get there too late. Staff from the restaurant were very friendly as they agreed to freeze our ice packs overnight for us. Some spots flatter than others !!

Just follow the road and you will see the sign to reach this calm and good place to overnight. We had also dinner at the restaurant, but dont expect that it will be super; its a buffet of some dishes and you can choose between BBQ or stew, if you are hungry is a good idea!
Its the only free place around Waitomo.

Excellent free camping. Great views, great meal, excellent friendly staff whom changed the menu slightly for me. Steak perfectly cooked. Small glow worm cave onsite. Wish we'd found this place on the start of our trip.

It's free! No idea how the food is. The website said open till late but apparently that's 8pm in NZ. But sweet enough that they open up their carpark to campervans and use of the toilet. It's a great opportunity to do the Ruakuri-walk at night (short drive) and see thousands of glowworms outside, for free. Fairytale nature. There are even worms next to the restaurant (down left from the entrance). Other than that...it's a carpark.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to review us. We're definitely open till at least 8pm every day, never earlier, but over summer months can be anywhere from 9.30 - 11pm or later if there's a function on. Glad you found our glowworms here.

We showed up Halloween night. There were a few guests dressed up. We skipped out on the activity. The drive to the parking lot felt like we were goin up a driveway to someone’s house. It’s a gravel parking lot, pretty level, had clean bathrooms, and fits about 12 campers. Quiet area except for a few drunks that wondered out and about at closing

Roselands Waitomo Caves responds:

Hi Indy,

Glad you found us, but apologies that you happened to stay that particular night. We like to do events for the locals occasionally. But usually it's quite peaceful. There are options to park below the restaurant on the grass and gravel areas if there is an event on. The parking is free, but there are other paid sites in Waitomo if we are not suitable.
Thank you for taking the time to review us.

20Sept18. Sorry, May. It is signposted from the road through Waitomo and is easy to find. That apart I agree entirely with all the positive comments that have gone before. Great food and service. Wonderful location. So good, no mark down due to the car park not being completely level.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for taking the time out to review us. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. The carpark isn't 100% level, but for free it's not a bad place to park away from road noise and next to nature!

Great place to stay overnight. We took the option of splitting our caves tours over two days. Roselands was easy to access... just follow the signs. We met Pete on arrival and he and the ladies inside couldn’t help us enough. We had dinner in the Restaurant and enjoyed a nice NZ Pinot Noir during Happy Hour. Appreciate the Freedom Camping and in exchange well worth supporting this business. Highly recommend.

Super friendly people. Basically it’s the parking from a family restaurant. They allow campervans to sleep there for free! And you can use their toilet but only until 21:00 that they close. They also offer an all you can eat meat stew with rice and chips for 15NZD, we ate there and was delicious and also happy hour on beer and spirits...great place!! Loved it!! Totally recommended after a long trek journey at Taranaki or before or after Waitomo Caves.

Parking lot of a restaurant. Some spots flatter than others. Decent crowd. Friendly staff. Buffet was great. Oh those fried potatoes!!!!!! Nice area to walk around with decent views and close to the cows. Toilet in Waitomo open 24/7 if u are up early to start exploring before the restaurant is open. Cheers.

This is a gravel car park at the Roselands complex. Only access to toilets when the restaurant is open so the camping side of it is nothing special other than the fact it's free. The food however is a different matter - $10 for as much as you can eat beef casserole and roast potatoes and rice. And it is scrummy, packed with meat and the roasties are really good. Very reasonable drinks prices and they showed rugby on a big screen before their movie night. Definitely worth a visit.

Roselands Waitomo Caves responds:

Hi Jo,
Thank you very much for your lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay here and thank you for staying for a meal. We know how expensive it can be to travel around New Zealand, even in a campervan so we offer our space for free and the use of our facilities. We do hope to get some facilities set up for use when the restaurant is closed in the near future.
Thank you for taking the time to review us.

A flat dry site in an elevated position with a toilets, a bar, food and free wifi between 9am and 9pm.
We were staying in our non-self-contained camper at the Youth Hostel a few kilometres away from this site and were attracted here by the £10 beef casserole all-you-can-eat evening buffet which was delicious. (There is only the casserole or a veg curry available with delicious potatoes or rice).

We spent our last night in Waitomo here and it is very close to all the central cave companies.
The wifi was superb and the manager and her family were very friendly and didn't mind us popping in after 9am to use the bathroom and top up the power on our devices.

The restaurant lacked character inside but the gardens and the views more than made up for inside decor which is clean and great for the mass catering they must do with their BBQ buffets for coach groups over lunch time (which looked and smelt delicious as we left!).

The toilets are within the restaurant so are not accessible between 9pm and 9am. This is why they advertise as self contained campers only, but we were not self contained and they were very happy for us to stay so long as we didn't poo in the bushes!

Roselands Waitomo Caves responds:

Hi Hannah,
Thank you for the great review and for taking the time out of your travel schedule to write it! Glad to hear you enjoyed the food, service and your time here and made use of the facilities.
Thanks for the tip about the decor. It's been like that for 30 years! It certainly needs refreshing but just isn't quite in our budget yet, and as you say, the garden and views make up for it. The outdoor tables are always full in summer. Roselands is generally very busy over the lunch time period with bus tours coming in to Waitomo Caves and the restaurant serves it's purpose for the 100's that come in. But we do have plans for a refurb one day so hopefully you'll be back again to see it :)
