Beautiful views, good food if you choose to go in or most people were cooking in the parking lot. Wifi is only turned on part of the hours, also bathrooms are not open 24/7, no showers or water fill up. It is very close to caving and black water rafting. Owners/staff very friendly and welcoming for a homey place.

Fantastic food, great location after the glow worm caves. Camping was in the car park but free and the staff were really friendly. They said we could park down the drive on a flatter bit if we couldn’t find a good spot, and it did get busy later on.

This beautiful spot up a long driveway away from the traffic is absolutely brilliant. There are glow worms to spot at night and the staff are just the most delightfully friendly people. Animals too check out for the kids, free WiFi and lovely views. I took a caravan up and even managed to park relatively flat. They also were extremely accommodating of our small fluffy dog.
Cracking spot. Very quiet but limited space so make sure you don’t get there too late. Staff from the restaurant were very friendly as they agreed to freeze our ice packs overnight for us. Some spots flatter than others !!
Just follow the road and you will see the sign to reach this calm and good place to overnight. We had also dinner at the restaurant, but dont expect that it will be super; its a buffet of some dishes and you can choose between BBQ or stew, if you are hungry is a good idea!
Its the only free place around Waitomo.
Excellent free camping. Great views, great meal, excellent friendly staff whom changed the menu slightly for me. Steak perfectly cooked. Small glow worm cave onsite. Wish we'd found this place on the start of our trip.
It's free! No idea how the food is. The website said open till late but apparently that's 8pm in NZ. But sweet enough that they open up their carpark to campervans and use of the toilet. It's a great opportunity to do the Ruakuri-walk at night (short drive) and see thousands of glowworms outside, for free. Fairytale nature. There are even worms next to the restaurant (down left from the entrance). Other than that...it's a carpark.
Roselands Waitomo Caves responds:
Thanks for taking the time to review us. We're definitely open till at least 8pm every day, never earlier, but over summer months can be anywhere from 9.30 - 11pm or later if there's a function on. Glad you found our glowworms here.
We showed up Halloween night. There were a few guests dressed up. We skipped out on the activity. The drive to the parking lot felt like we were goin up a driveway to someone’s house. It’s a gravel parking lot, pretty level, had clean bathrooms, and fits about 12 campers. Quiet area except for a few drunks that wondered out and about at closing
Roselands Waitomo Caves responds:
Glad you found us, but apologies that you happened to stay that particular night. We like to do events for the locals occasionally. But usually it's quite peaceful. There are options to park below the restaurant on the grass and gravel areas if there is an event on. The parking is free, but there are other paid sites in Waitomo if we are not suitable.
Thank you for taking the time to review us.
