Great experience and I'd suggest to use the guided tours starting every hour on the hour. A maori guide explained us interesting things on geothermal phenomenon and Maori culture. Beside the thermal park you can see an art and crafts center.

Insight into Maori Culture while being open about tourism being an industry. Knowledgeable guides with a great combination of fact, fiction, culture and childhood anecdotes. I would recommend a bit of reading into the history but the whole park includes geysers, kiwi, maori buildings and performance plus the art, history and creation story.

Ranking: 9/10
Wonderful experience. Entrance fee is a bit expensive considering the currency exchange rate. Could not see anything in the Kiwi bird viewing as it was very dark. Highlight of the day is the famous geysier. Guided tour is available for Free. I prefer the male tourguide as his speech is more interesting and he is the direct descendent of a famous warrior (cant remember the name thou).

Great way to see a Cultural show & experience a geothermal area. The Pohutsu Geyser was so active the day we went due to the recent rainful.
This venue is also the place of the Mauri school of carving & weaving. The tour guide was extremely knowledgable and friendly.
From the reviews it sounds as though this place has been confused with the location of the Lady Knox Geyser where at 10.15am each the geyser erupts due to the soap being added.
Te Puia is the location of the Pohutu Geyser which goes off normal 1-2 per hour, but on rainy days it more active.
We also used the discount voucher available in many of the tourist programs which brought the price down to under $100 for the 2 of us.

Actual springs/geysers impressive, cultural show intro pompous and long winded. Entry relatively expensive (why are tickets cheaper at 'iSite' than at the gate? ).

Thought it was quite expensive, but once in thought it was very good but only if you paid the extra for the Maori experience. Geysers very good, well laid out.

This has to be New Zealand's "Premier Plastic Maori Experience"!! Owned by the New Zealand Government, it is sad that Maori Culture has allowed itself to be "tokened" and "showcased" to visitors from overseas as mere "natives" enjoyed by foreigners to these shores. One would question how Maori elders allowed this to happen ... or did they have a choice?? The cost is a clear result of "commercialism" of Cultural Heritage and how this landmark has been "swallowed" by greed and through those that support this type of "Tourist" trap.

The geothermal parts of this park are really good and worth seeing but I wasn't that impressed with the 'cultural' part and generally Te Puia is expensive and very commercial.

The Pohutu Geyser is a must see. The weaving & wood carving is informative & nice to see in process. The $10 extra for the Maori concert is a cheap way to get acquainted with the Maori culture. Beware of hordes of Chinese tourists.

The Pohutu Geyser was very beautiful! The walk in the park is also nice. The Maori show in the afternoon is a good idea to get an idea of Maori culture but it is very, very commercial & busy.
