We enjoyed the whole place and I would recommend doing it all, oh yes, there are ups and downs so do not expect flat walking. Fascinating seeing the earth's crust with various colours and smells as well as bubbling boiling water, take your time and see how powerful nature is. Often seen these places on TV but to get up close and hear and see is amazing. It was not over crowded so we could find ourselves on our own experiencing the wonders and going at our own pace.

We covered the whole track in a couple of hours, stopping plenty to take pictures, make sure you wear plenty of sunscreen as there is not a lot of shade. To see the volcanic landscape is other worldly, the walkways are very safe and clear and the colours of the pools is mind blowing, they look fake! I would give it 10/10 if it was a little cheaper, we could only afford to see this as other places were of a similar price. Definitely make your way to the mud pools!

Everyone should see thermal pools, geysers, and steaming pools. However, some are spread over vast distances and you end up walking miles to see each thing and wasting a full day. Wai-O-Tapu was recommended to me as it has everything within about a mile and a half walk. Get there early (before 10am) to view the geyser as she only blows once a day (Lady Grey as I recall). The only thing not directly on the complex is the mud-pools but those are an 800m drive away and best viewed afterwards, as they are spell-binding. Superb if you want to see these phenomenon's but not spend all day tramping around.

A bit pricey, the Lady Geyser is fairly normal geyser you see everywhere else. Champagne Pool is the real attraction here, it will be better if you plan your visit so the sun is behind your back, with the sun in front of you, the sun will cast a reflection on the pool and it is harder to see the vivid orange color.

I didn't know what to expect going in, and absolutely loved it. It's amazing to think all of this happens naturally - that the earth we walk on is so volatile underneath our feet. The colors of some of the pools were astounding, making up for the strong smell of the place. Champagne Pool is so cool, and the Devil's Pool was a neat surprise.

Sorry to have to say this but if you have experienced Yellowstone in the US, you can skip Rotorua, in NZ!! The thermals, geysers (old faithful etc) are larger and better. Champange pool here was not bad but overall, for the price I would rate it as average. If you have ppl with you who have not seen these types of thermal activity before then it is a decent place to go.

Excellent walks through a mini Yellowstone. Best advice is to arrive at 10.15am when everyone is watching geyser erupt, buy your ticket and go back to geyser as everyone leaves (it continues to erupt for about an hour.)Some have rated it expensive - 65 dollars for family ticket is only 25 UK pounds so very good value. Don't forget mud pools on entrance road.
