This place had a wonderful selection of Kiwi wildlife, as well as a lot of information on other places to visit. The young chap at the counter was so helpful and enthusiastic!

Meeting with a kiwi bird, awesome bird show, not so big area, typical NZ flora. You need to pay for a Kiwi encounter, special costs.

We are an adult couple and was not interested in the children's games, rides and playground. The park is set up for families with small children. We appreciate the efforts the park is doing for kiwi conservation and paid the high admission, but did not care to partake in the park activities other than the extra kiwi tour which we had to pay extra.
Expensive admission to the park, but we felt better knowing the money was going to kiwi conservation. We opted to pay extra for behind the scenes tour and enjoyed seeing the newly hatched kiwi. The tour guide shared lots of interesting kiwi information. Tour was short and we expected to see or hear more.

Go in the evening and back the next day on the same ticket to see kiwis at night and in the kiwi house during the day.

You can get very close to the kiwis and staff are very knowledgeable.

The kiwis are beyond cute.

Best stocked and best value gift shop we discovered over three weeks travelling. We bought most of our gifts there.

We expected too much of this. It was TOO commercial, and TOO expensive. You'd see the place where the eggs are brought in, one baby kiwi and 3 adult kiwi's. Not really worth $24!

Reviewed over 10 years ago

Rainbow Springs Nature Park responds:

Thanks for your visit. A shame you thought $24 was too expensive - were you told by your tour guide that 100% of your ticket price goes into our kiwi raise and release program? Thanks for your contribution. Great you got to see a kiwi chick too - we're the only place where you can see kiwi eggs being incubated and chicks hatching in incubators.

Such a lovely wildlife park - the work done here is amazing - loads of native birds to look at, and you can see them so close in the walk-through enclosures. we did the bird feeding tour first thing in the morning and then went back that night (for no extra charge) to see the kiwi - just magical.

There weren't any kiwi chicks in July but still learnt so much from the passionate and very informed guide. no glass in the kiwi house so got to see them really close up. So nice to know that it helps to save the kiwi which is so endangered

Another Nature Park ... great if you need to kill an hour in Rotorua while waiting for something better to happen. Is on the "verge" of becoming "plastic". Is under construction and caters more for "Mass Bus Coaches". The gift shop sells mass imported souvenirs manufactured off-shore, mainly Asia which would imply that cheap labour is been exploited.

Not bad ... You get to see some Kiwi's, after all that is why you would visit, however, the commentary is a 'bit long' on the point to being 'boring'. Certainly see more of the Kiwi birds at the Otorohonga Kiwi House for nearly half the price ... and you don't have to be 'quiet'?

Sorry for any inconvenience due to construction. We are adding a lake and picnic area into the park. This has meant the temporary relocation of our coachpark to the front of our building. We do stock a wide range of NZ made products in our gift shop.

To see NZ native flora and fauna, like Kiwi and Keas, and native trout , Rainbow Springs is a great experience. The enclosures are lovely and don't feel like a prison for the animals. I liked the organic garden they have too, adnd that they recycle, not just rubbish but organic waste and building materials too! Well worth while ....

Lovely walks through the park and lots of wildlife to see. Especially good at night with the coloured lights illuminating pools and plants. Ticket valid all day so you can come back at night after doing something else.

Very informative tour and enthusiastic, knowledgeable guide. Small group so plenty of time to watch kiwis. The only place in the world dedicated to incubation and rearing of kiwi so a very special place. Unfortunately not much going on in August so not much to see apart from 3 kiwis.
