57 Basic Camping
We welcome any campers who are completely self contained.
The park for camper vans is flat and spacious. Adjacent is a terrace where you can enjoy your wine and cheese over looking the Pacific Ocean and Mercury Island.
Whangapoua Beach is a five minute walk from our park. Imagine white sand, clear water, world renowned surf, a nice lagoon and a stunning harbour full of fish.
Fishing boats welcome - we happy to swap fresh fish for home grown organic vegetables. The boat ramp is a 2 minute drive away.
A number of short walks are close by including the world famous New Chums Beach. Neighboring Matarangi Beach has an 18 hole golf course and beautiful coastal walkways.
We are a 25 minute drive from Coromandel Town and 35 minutes to Whitianga. Some say we are a great middle point between the two towns. We advise all our guests that the last big supermarkets are in either Whitianga or Thames. Alternatively we have a very small convenience store (limited stock / closes 5pm) and Coromandel Township has a ‘Four Square’ grocery store (closes 7pm).
We charge $10 per person, per night. Cash only on arrival.

The owners, Lance and Michelle, are two of the friendliest people we've met in Nz. Interesting to talk to, and full of helpful advice. They even gave us a pumpkin and introduced us to a couple of girls who were staying in the cabin who we spent the evening chatting with. Basic site but everything else more than makes up for it. Highly recommended.

Amazing view and very friendly and helpful hosts. Simple and uncrowded. We liked it a lot. Maybe not the perfect place for rainy days (no shelter) but we were very lucky with the weather.
Definitely "basic" but just what we were looking for. Owners are super friendly and welcoming - shared some awesome conversation over a coffee in the morning. $5 per person to park a van in the yard with a great view of the stars. There is also a water tank that's been converted into a cabin in the back that looks rad to stay in -- contact Lance and Michelle for pricing on that.
