Good stay if your looking for a place just out of town. We stayed one night only and there were only a few other cars and campervans. No view of the beach due to trees from parking but its literally a few meters walk and the view is so beautiful especially at sunrise
Beautiful beach, toilets, sink, baby changing facilities, dump station, fresh water tap. Fairly level parking. Great free spot.
nice place close to the ocean. facilities clean. not so much space so do not arrive too late.
Nice place. Close to a beautiful beach. Locals keep an eye on this spot. Thanks for this.
10 places for cars.
Don’t park behind those.....or you get a fine.
Fresh water and dumping station.
Looks great but very small. We arrived at 5:30pm and it was already full - only 5 spots for each category!
Clean toilets, nice spot right next to the beach, but not many spaces. Full by 4:30. Only 5 NSC spots. Unfortunately people were littering and quite loud. People parked behind other cars and in the no overnight camping spots. Shame people have to ruin it
Great location to Dunedin and right on the beach so very popular, would recommend getting in early. Non-self contained spots were all taken so we parked up in a self contained spot with no issues. Toilets are clean :)
Platz war gut, nur in der Nacht ein paar durchfahrende Autos
Amazing campsite next to a beautiful beach, perfect for a morning walk. Clean flush toilets and even drink water supply. There are only very few spots available (especially for non-selfcontained cars) so come there early. They actually control if you parked in the marked area...some people woke up to a 200$ fine on their windscreens
Amazing spot! 2 public toilets available are clean and looked to have been cleaned in the early hours of the morning when we woke. Incredible location next to a gorgeous beach! A must to get up for the sunrise with your first cup of tea! The sky was stunning! Was very busy even in Sept.
This was one of my favourite places to stay in all of New Zealand, parking is 5 metres from a beautiful beach, great location (10 min from Dunedin), clean bathrooms, grassy area for picnic. Only thing is it gets pretty crowded at night, but was quiet for the amount of people. A MUST STAY!
Very nice free car park for all vehicles. Instructions on site were very good. It was nice to find one free car park for a regular car. However regular car places on this site were also filled with campervans eventually. Be early. Clean toilets and a beach closeby.
Lovely beach, white sand next to the main road, reasonable toilets with sink for dishes and dump station. It was empty when we arrived at 2pm the downside was from 5pm onwards loads of young people arrived in small vans and cars and totally blocked us in, the sign said the parking was only until 8.30am, some of the vehicles hadn't moved by 8.30am so nobody could get out !!!!!
Eventually we had to bang on windows to make them move. There was about 30 vehicles in total with young adults, I must say very quiet well behaved young adults.
Great site with great facilities, however you want to get there early!! We arrived about 3pm and by 5/6 there were so many vans all cramped together in a small space. Ocean is close and it's fairly quite.
The website says for campervans only but when we arrived, the sign said tents are allowed too and so we stayed. Just a row of hedge bushes separate you from the ocean and the campsite. It's a very small campsite but has new flush toilets (2 or 3 in total) and water tap outside. An excellent free campsite that easily beats some paid campsites. Just come early to get a good spot; there are only about 5 campervan slots and 5 tent sites available.
Chong Soon Kung
It's a great place to stay overnight where it is only a few steps away from the beach. There is a toilet with light, dump station and fresh water for campervan.
Just a parking lot. All close to each other. Potable water, tap behind, toilets. Close to the beach but very windy. Because of all the cars are very close, you are woken up from people slamming doors. Protect and respect nature!
Super busy. There aren't 5 designated spots per-se but you can really only fit 5 vehicles between the signs. If you can drive another half an hour, go to the Warrington Reserve instead, there's a lot more space.
Great little free spot. 10 metres to the beach, but no beach view. Nice walks/scrambles up the coast towards Brighton and a little chippie up the road. Toilets were clean and there was drinking water. Yes the rules are strict but these facilities would be overrun very quickly if there were more people allowed. Visit if you're in the area. There really is only space for 5 non self contained campers and there was a small gap between vans. Between 10 and 20 other vehicles showed up throughout the evening and left disappointed. No fires allowed.
The area is between the road (but not a very big road) and the beach. Pretty nice free spot.
Awesome location... For sure there are strict rules (only 5 sites for non self-contained + 2 sites for self-contained) to comply with. A bit of luck is required in high season to find a place or arriving soon ;-)
Unpaid. Awesome view, it is really worth to wake up before sunrise and wait for that at the beach.
this is one of dunedins 3 designated free spots and apparently there have been many complaints about campers abuse of the spot. its an absolutely gorgeous area, though rather far from the city itself. we arrived at 4pm and there were already 7 vehicles. only 5 are allowed, so the 2 latecomers actually asked the first cars to park closer together so they could fit in the designated spots. as the 8th, we did not fit and disapproved of such behavior anyway. there are large no camping signs on all the other spots. a security patrol came and wrote down our license plate and said they werent kicking us out, but that someone could come later to do so. we felt uncomfortable and left. we ended up just parking free overnight on the street in st clair and had no problems.
