Great spot next to the beach ..snapped some fantastic sunset photos! Plenty of marked parking spots. 2 clean toilets and small covered seating area. FYI Lots of traffic too and from the beach, people walking dogs and visiting the easily accessed beach into the night and first thing in the morn, be watchful if you have littlies crossing over to use the loos. Overall great experience here

nice place on gravel for about 25-30 cars.
even some places for big RV's if you come on time.
there is alot of wind, so outside cooking was less fun but okay.
right next to the beach.
toilets 7/10. they were clean for being drop toilets.

Great free camping, complete with free bathrooms. There are a couple of big lots with numbered spaces, I’m not sure how many but it had to be about 40. I got there mid-afternoon and didn’t have trouble getting a spot. By later in the evening it seemed to be pretty full. Within 200 yards of the ocean, with a very funky beach covered in driftwood.

Good spot, right on the beach. Exposed if windy! Great toilets and if all the spots are taken go around to shingle beach. No one there and it is allowed to freedom camp for self contained only! No toilets at the second spot!

Easy to find but very crowded. The only water tap did not work. It was cool to camp this close to the beach, which was covered in driftwood, but I would not stay there again.

A great camp spot with several spots available for vans. Rubbish bins available along with a well-maintained toilet. The beach is nearby (2 min walk) and it makes for a lovely sunset walk along all of the driftwood and soft, white sand. Friendly council worker pops by in the morning to ensure everything is in good order and that everyone is respectful to the surroundings. An excellent spot!

In all fairness we arrived after 10pm and left by 7am. Didn’t make it to the beach but could hear the Tasman Sea very well all night. No problems getting a site even though it looked busy. No bathroom but in the town there is one were we freshened up in the AM. A bit difficult to find as the location map doesn’t show roads nearby but just follow the city signs to the beach.

Great spot by the beach, easy to find, fantastic views of the sea and its surrounding. The only downside was that it was very windy and raining at night and it was so loud that I woke up in the middle of the night. We had to move our campervan away from the first line at the beach. Lots of space for self contained campervans.

Camping among the sand dunes is a great experience in settled weather but truly dismal when the weather turns nasty. When the roar of the surf gets threatening it's time to leave. An interesting and slightly challenging cycle track through the scrub behind the beach. Absolutely zero facilities but only 4 minutes drive from downtown Westport.

We arrived here late and it was dark, unclear where exactly you're supposed to park and difficult to find if without this map. No facilities but on a beautiful beach and you can hear the waves crashing as you're sleeping. Short drive into town for public toilets in the morning! What more do you want from a free site.

Awesome spot overlooking the beach with cows for neighbours. Doesn't look like much of a freedom camping area but the small patch of gravel to the right of the track leading to the beach was sufficient enough. The views were awesome and was great watching the locals walk there dogs NZ style along the beach(by car and by modified scooter to be pulled by two huskies). We recommend it and suggest you watch the sunset.

Actually we were not sure, if we stayed in the right place as no signs for a freedom camping spot could be seen. But just leave the Highway 67 in the corner and drive all the way to the beach. The last short part is gravel. It is a simple dead end street with space for not more than 3 or 4 vans. We stayed there the night for our own. The scenery and atmosphere right at the beach was really breathtaking.
