Nice view of Kaikoura and Mont Manakau. You can make the return in the or sleep in one hut for 5$. Choose a good day ;)
Easy walk up. Most beautiful sunrise (it was really worth it to wake up early). Nice walk to the Saddle but the way down the valley was pretty hard in the stream and bush.

Great views from the summit but a hard (fairly boring) ascent - great for fitness. 6 hours return.
Thank You - to the thousands of travellers that have contributed to our Top Voted NZ Activities Map - it's free from Rankers.
We spent a week in Kaikoura and it is a good place to relax and enjoy the beach. But we really recommend to spend one day to go up the Mt Fyffe. A sunny and clear day. The views are amazing and worth it, although it is hard walking up.
There was a very gruelling seven hour return trip that tested me physically and mentally as I am very much a rookie climber - but the view and sense of accomplishment afterwards was definitely worth it.

Beautiful views of all the peninsula of Kaikoura from the Summit of Mt Fyffe (1602m). On the way back using the river side path (you feel like you are exploring a new world).
One of the best experiences but only if you are looking for adventure due to the heaviest wind I have ever experienced! Sometimes we could not walk on! Awesome view!
The track has beautiful views and is quite adventurous due to strong winds, nice free hut, very steep!!!
I ran all the way up and down, about 2 hours 40 mins in total. The first part is a hard slog up a quite dull, consistently steep 4WD track. After that the track becomes much better, with variations in steepness. The best part of the track is from the hut to the summit, which is about the final third. Views are astounding in all directions. Well worth the effort.
Did not get to the top because of insufficient time. First hour of the walk is steep, slippery and boring, improves markedly after that.
