There is a dirt road for approx 5/6km with some corrugation, but nothing too bad.
The view is lovely. 4 or 5 campers here, but still heaps of room. The sandflies haven't found me yet.

9/10 for views of the lake and nearby mountainous, and vicinity to the surrounding Paradise area.
The sandflies were relentless though so we only stayed one night.

The campsite is located in a beautiful place.
The road to the campsite is crazy on a gravel road. What bothered me about this campsite is the smelly toilets, they smelled even outside.

Lovely setting and the lake was perfect for a swim- way warmer than Lake Wakatipu!
Sandflies were pretty bad and toilets smelt disgusting. Road getting there was one of the roughest I've been on in this country. Quite a small site compared to others nearby, maybe 20 flat spots.

After the hustle and bustle of Queenstown, my husband and I decided to spend New Year's Eve here and we're so glad we did as it's a beautiful spot.
We were the only ones there, probably because it's a bit of a trek down a gravel road to get there and not suitable for really large campervans as the road gets quite narrow and there are overhanging branches to contend with. The scenery is stunning though and we only had birds and sheep as neighbours! We decided to go for a dip in the lake as it was a hot evening when we arrived but the water was glacial! Definitely cooled us down. Two longdrops near the paystation. $8/person. Lots of sandflies there in the evening so wear repellent if you're a magnet for them like I am!

Great little place but not a free camping area.
It may have used to be but now it's DOC. $8 per person but with a drop toilet. Great view of diamond lake.

Fair old trek to this one, nice and remote with fantastic views.
Had the place to ourselves.

We arrived in the dark but good site, beautiful views.
No facilities but fine for self contained vehicles and cheap for a family ($20). Only 10km outside of Queenstown

A short walk around the lake, on a full moon it was pretty magical!

Rough gravel road, narrow in parts, to get there, but well worth it.
The scenery is really magic and on a still day the lake looks like a mirror. Only for self-contained though. No toilet, but can use water from lake. We stayed there three days - didn't want to leave!

The campsite was a little disappointing.
The drive there is fantastic, but the camping area itself is not that fantastic. There are a number of telephone poles in front of you. Having said that we had the place to ourselves which was nice.

Most stunning view of the lake, parking space is situated in front of a charming forest.
