Amazing spot to park up! One of our favourites and a great location if going to Mount Cook the next day, fellow campers landed a massive salmon during the day in the canals so good for fishers as well. Was non-self-contained and got away with no issues so can't complain :)

Great place but its free, so it attracts allsorts. We settled in to a lovely spot and had a wonderful evening by the lake, sharing the lakefront with about 10 other campervans, all spread out evenly 20 metres or so apart. Then at dusk the cars arrived - 8 in total. 6 of them parked within 5m of us in a tight circle and made their dinner, chatted and opened and closed car doors until well past midnight, almost within arms reach. And when you are freedom camping there is pretty much nothing you can do about selfish assholes, except move on.

Freedom camping at it's best, we were all alone by the lake. Heard a few cars on the road in the morning but not early. Fabulous views. As other reviewers have said, anywhere from the turn off along the lake to the power station. We loved it as fully self contained as no facilities.

Amazing freedom camping spot, we stayed 2 nights in different places, the 1st slightly more secluded than the 2nd but neither busy! Great views accross the lake to mount cook.

My husband and I are having a hard time understanding how every spot so far reccomended gets better and better. This was more crowded than most but still breathtaking and quiet. Another must.

Such a stunning spot. Beautiful and quiet. Quite a few spots to chose from. Lovely for sunset and sunrise. Must be in a self contained vehicle.

We were there in September. Fantastic freedom camping site! Found a lovely spot among some trees with gorgeous lake and mountain views. We had a clear night with plenty of stars and moonlight and woke up to beautiful skies at sunrise.

Absolutely stunning spot! This was by far our favourite camping spot in NZ! Found a flat secluded spot nestled in the Pine trees with a perfect view of Lake Pukaki.
No facilities at all so please make sure you are self contained and leave no trace!
