We hired a campervan from Piwiwiwi for 5 weeks during July and August 2020 before moving back to the UK. We had already had an amazing 3 week experience in 2018 when we first arrived in NZ and it is fair to say that Nick and Piwiwiwi delivered again. Customer service is brilliant with airport pick up and drop off as well as extensive explanation on how everything works in the van. Nick also provided extra blankets, hot water bottles and a fan heater for those cold winter nights. The vans have been upgraded since the last time we hired from them and the new layout makes use of the space very efficiently with a comfortable lounge/dining area that turns in to a very big double bed. All in all it was a brilliant experience and I would definitely use Piwiwiwi again. Many thanks to Nick and his family. Charles and Sophie.

PiwiWiwi was awesome! I can't recommend Nick and his campers high enough! The van was easy to drive, well maintained and zero road issues. It was comfortable, warm and had absolutely everything you need and set up in a way that was easy to use and utilize the van space. Nick was extremely knowledgeable and gave us some great tips. Highly highly recommend these guys! And it feels great to be able to support a local family owned business as well!

Nick, Julie, and kids (the family behind PiwiWiwi) epitomize Kiwi hospitality. Whether you're looking to rent a campervan, purchase a van, or build out / modify a van, we highly endorse PiwiWiwi. They are straight-forward, honest, helpful, and kind. We were first introduced (virtually) as we started our search for a rental campervan in May 2019. Ultimately we went with a campervan purchase for our 4 month road trip of NZ. Nick found us the van based on our requirements, coordinated the sale, stored the van until we arrived, kitted out the van with goodies, and the kids even named the van for us. We finally got to meet the PiwiWiwi family in real life in January 2020 when we started our travels. Obviously 2020 is turning out to be no ordinary year. Fast forward to September 2020 and, besides the lockdown period, we're still going strong in our van and couldn't be happier. Throughout this challenging year, Nick and family have been there for advice, recommendations, and much more. We are grateful to be able to call the PiwiWiwi family our NZ family.

We had the pleasure of renting a Campervan from Nick and his family on our first ever campervan trip. The whole experience ran smoothly and completely converted us to the campervan holidaying life. Nick gave a very thorough intro and was always available to text or call for any further info or help throughout the trip. The campervan was GREAT, excellent layout very clean and obviously well maintained. Would thoroughly recommend Piwiwiwi to anyone especially if new to campervaning was reassuring to know you had someone on hand to help you out!

We had to cancel our initial rental due to Covid-19 lockdown, but Nick was very flexible in changing the dates to a later stage. We traveled in autumn in one of the newer HiAce vans, which was very comfortable! The high roof allows you to cook inside, perfec during the cold season! PiwiWiwi also provided us with extra blankets, hot bottles and a heater for the winter, without extra charge. The communication with Nick was excellent and easy. We really appreciated the flexibility offered due to the end of the season rental. The vans are in a good state and well maintained, provided with everything you need.

Unfortunately we had to undergo many challenges to our NZ travel - significantly shortened by Corona we could only tour a bit more than half of the South Island instead of the entire country. The car was fine, clean, absolutely roadworthy and had exactly the basic features we were expecting and which are necessary for an uncomplicated journey. Nick was very helpful in picking us up at the airport and also dropping us there on short notice just before the lockdown became implemented. When it will be possible to freely travel the world one day and to also enter NZ again without difficult restrictions we will certainly consider to continue our tour with a Piwiwi camper.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with PiwiWiwi. We had the van for 21 days driving it everyday and had no trouble with it at all. The layout of the van is very well thought out and there is plenty of space. It was very clean and Nick made sure there was everything we needed, even a hot water bottle which was a lovely touch! We were offered extra blankets as well due to the weather being a bit colder and the bed was very comfortable. Nick gave us loads of advice for planning our route and was only a call or a text away if we wanted to contact him. He really went the extra mile with us once our flights and travel from New Zealand was stopped due to the coronavirus lockdown, offering us help, being understanding with changing plans and even a place to camp near him if we got stuck. We were glad to have booked with a smaller company as we felt we had a really genuine experience and have already recommended them to all our friends and family. We can’t wait to be able to go on another holiday using one of their vans. We honestly believe there is no better campervan company in the whole of New Zealand.

After spending 5 weeks traversing the beautiful South Island of New Zealand just a year ago, our experience with Piwiwiwi was so good that we came back for another 3 week adventure! As was the case the first time around, Nick was waiting to pick us up at the airport to take us to our home on wheels. Julie and the kids were there to meet us with a warm welcome and the process of getting us roadtrip ready began. From the paperwork side of things, to the van tour, Nick was thorough but always mindful of our eagerness to get out on the road. And I must say that in the space of 12 months, he had made changes to enhance the experience even more than before.

On the road we quickly got the hang of how everything worked, and were delighted with how easy it was to transition our home from lounge, to dining room, to bedroom. The kitchen was well set out and made life cooking a breeze. The high roof was also great as it meant standing straight was possible. There was also outdoor furniture and loads of storage. Surprisingly for a van similar in size to a car it was amazing how everything fit so well without becoming cumbersome. The van was easy to drive and is clearly serviced regularly.

Overall we have to say how great the Piwiwiwi experience was (again) for us. For a small family run business we just wouldn't go any other way.

Thanks again to Nick, Julie and the kids. We'll be seeing you again real soon (still too much to see and do!)

Everything is organized and had been thought of. We felt really good heading out after the orientation. I can highly recommend PiwiWiwi!

We spent just over two weeks in our PiwiWiwi campervan and we absolutely loved the entire experience. Nick and his wife Julie, the owners, were amazingly hospitable - from picking us up in the airport to outfitting the van with a bike rack for our mountain bikes to a full rundown of how the van worked so we didn't run into any surprises on the road. The van was extremely clean and well organized when we arrived. Nick and Julie stock each van with great additional amenities (all listed on their website for research ahead of time) like camp chairs and coffee makers so we were able to get started on our vacation and not spend time or money purchasing items we wouldn't be taking home with us. They also provided really great tips on things that can make an international road trip a bit stressful, like groceries and gas.

Once we got going, we quickly began to appreciate how well the van was laid out. There was ample storage for our bags (they recommend to bring soft-sided bags instead of suitcases, we agree!), bike gear, and food without feeling cluttered. The first few days of our trip we experienced some heavy rain, making us happy to have the built-in kitchen and the height of the camper van to easily cook and move around without feeling cramped or hunched over. We were easily able to set up the dining table and play cards or build the bed area to lay and read books while the rain was pouring without having to get out of the van itself.

The height and length of the van itself was ideal - long and tall enough to be comfortable but still small enough to drive comfortably on narrower roads and park easily in holiday parks. Our camper van was also entirely reliable on our trip, we didn't have any mechanical issues (due to Nick's meticulous upkeep). We were able to traverse across the south island with confidence that we'd arrive at our next destination safely.

We don't think you'll find a better camper van service in New Zealand!

Piwiwiwi's camper van experience was everything that we imagined and more!
The van that we hired was so well looked after that we had little to no issues with it. It was spacious, comfortable and the set up of the interior was extremely convenient.
Due to being a smaller family business, we received a very personal experience which I doubt we would have received in any other company.
Nick and Julie were always only a phone call away which gave us great comfort and safety for our first little holiday. They also provided us with really useful information which helped us shape our trip, especially with weather changes etc.

10/10 would recommend going with PiwiWiwi.

Look no further for a great camper experience! If you are like me, you have been putting in lots of research into the best possible company for your time in NZ, and let me tell you: This. Is. It. Nick is extremely helpful and was available for any question we had along our route. He gave great suggestions on things to visit or bypass, which saved us loads up time. The van ran great, was a perfect size for two people, me 6'1 and my girlfriend 5'6 had no problems fitting inside. The stand up is a must! Cooking inside the van lets you avoid the nasty sand flies that plague NZ. The extras they include go a long way, including extra blankets for cold nights, travel mugs, chairs and a table. These things cost extra at every other place! Go with Piwiwiwi and you will not be disappointed. Thanks to Piwiwiwi for making our trip memorable and exciting!!!

We could not have been happier renting with PiwiWiwi Campervans.

We rented one of the new edition campervans and from start to finish, we were not disappointed. Right from being picked up at the airport, to Nick showing us the personal touches on the van, to the tips on our road trip that we planned out and the communication for coming back and doing final checks. We've done SNZ before in a campervan through a larger company (rather than smaller family owned, like Nick's) and all of the small issues we found (thin mattress, underutilized space, old & cheap extras like fold up chairs and kitchen equipment) were corrected in this van. You can tell that having someone like Nick, who's traveled in campervans extensively, really helped towards innovating the van based on his experiences. You don't get that with corporate enterprises!. The van itself did us well and Nick sent us off with plenty of information on the inside of the van, mechanics of running and living in it (petrol, dumping etc.) which is something that I've not had before with other companies (usually it's just a manual thrown at you to read at your own convenience).

One of our main reasons behind choosing PiwiWiwi campervans was due to the lack of advertising on the van - made you feel (and we were treated...) like a local! The van (as well as all the others I hear) also has a diary inside with everyone's experiences so you can rely on some more recent and real life experiences of fellow travellers. Helps on those long drives from place to place.

All in all an amazing experience and we're already looking to come back and (hopefully) take the same van out for another grand adventure.

We had a brilliant trip in our campervan with Piwiwiwi! The van was perfect, just the right size for 2 people and we had no issues at all during our trip. The van was easy to drive, even in cities because it fit into a standard parking space. It was really comfy to sleep in, but take an eye mask if you're easily woken by sunlight! Nick was really helpful when we picked up the van, we got some tips about our route which were all great additions and had a thorough introduction to the van. We couldn't recommend Piwiwiwi highly enough!

We had a great time on South Island in our Toyota Hiace piwiwiwi camper. We hired for 33 days, and our van was perfect for the trip. It's easy to drive and park, has loads of clever storage space, and you've plenty of room to stand and cook in the van. The bed stretches across the full width of the van; and although it may be slightly short if you're 6ft, it was really comfy to sleep on. Not once did either of us consider that we might be more comfortable in a "proper" bed at a motel.
We travelled all over South Island, from remote DOC sites down gravel tracks to big powered sites in cities. This van is superbly put together, with great attention to detail and a very high quality of fittings. We've stayed in several campervans over the years and even owned one for a while. This van from piwiwiwi beats them all for comfort and ease of use. The high top means that you will notice wind more when driving, and the engine can feel a little underpowered when climbing Takaka hill for example; but these are minor criticisms. I'd take the easy driving on narrow winding roads and the "park it anywhere" attitude over a bit more horsepower any day. Nick provided a really personal service, collecting us from our arrival address in the city on the first day, and taking us back again on the last day after we'd (reluctantly) returned the van. We left NZ a few days later and there's no doubt that we will have another van from piwiwiwi next time we're back!

Piwiwiwi Campervan Rentals is outstanding on all fronts. Communication and arrangements were clear, easy and straightforward. Nick is very congenial and knowledgeable regarding his campers and traveling with them in New Zealand. The van I rented is a newer model automatic in which I spent ten glorious days and nights. It is immediately apparent that much thought and care has gone into every detail when creating this comfortable home on wheels. So many in fact this list might seem long but frankly these are the difference makers when choosing a camping vehicle. (I’ve experienced a few !). The sleeping /seating cushions are more than comfortable, the perfect blend of softness and support. The curtains are attractive double fabric blackout and insulating. The galley is cleverly designed making use of and providing everything you need. Storage space is very ample without overlapping into living space, helping keep things organized and tidy. The inside is insulated providing surprising soundproofing also. I loved having the screened awning type windows on the upper roof walls. Great for venting even if it rained outside, which it didn’t. 😜. The toilet on board is cleverly tucked away but readily available making thins self contained camper Freedom Camp friendly, which you absolutely want camping in New Zealand. Other worthy mentions are the expansive interior height. Tall people will be sooo happy. The van drives really well especially with Nick’s tips on strategic usage of gears. The van (affectionately known as Hector) has plenty of ground clearance and big capable tires, steering and brakes A1. One thing, and Nick addresses this in his very detailed and helpful orientation, is the affect of wind on the van. It can, and will influence how you drive in windy conditions, but I easily adapted on the few occasions this occurred. Piwiwiwi was able to accommodate my desire to camp with a bike by providing both rack and bike. Would definitely rent again !

Did a two week camper van rental through Nick over at Piwiwiwi Campervans. Absolutely unbelievable! He is the friendliest, most helpful, and genuine person we met on the island (which says a lot considering how accommodating Kiwis are.) We rented an older van by choice, and even though it had quite a few kilometers on it, it ran perfectly. The set up inside the vans is perfect, you can tell there's been years of traveling that go into the set up. I really could not have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived Nick was helping us with our itinerary and what we should prioritize. Seeing as we only had two weeks, we will certainly be back and we will definitely be renting from Piwiwiwi again. Look no further, this is hands down the best place to rent your campervan!

Just returned from almost three weeks in New Zealand. Our campervan was the focal point of the trip and we couldn't have been happier that we chose PiwiWiwi. Price point was competitive with the other major brands, we liked that the van was unbranded so we didn't feel like we were driving a big "tourist" billboard, but the best part is that the company is family operated and the whole experience was handled personally and professionally. Communication was great. We set the trip up with Nick via email, and Nick is the person who picked us up and gave us a thorough run-down of the van. These guys aren't operating a giant fleet so they know and care about each of their vehicles on the road and the people in them. We must have looked at over twenty options for campervans and this was a big choice where we feel like our research paid off. Highly recommended.

Nick picked us up from the airport and took us back to his house to pick up the van, where we met his wife Julie and their kids. We felt welcomed and cared for, and liked being able to meet the people we we were supporting by renting from the company. While PiwiWiwi has a wide variety of vans to choose from, the van we rented was an older model, which was perfect for us! The van did not have any decals indicating the rental company, which I really appreciated- and the set up inside was well laid out, and fully stocked. The van had everything we needed! We slept in the van every night for 3 weeks, cooked in it everyday, and drove it all over the island. My son and I recently had on a South Island roady in late November and are so glad we discovered Piwiwiwi as it made our awesome trip even better. The campervan was in amazing condition, the really well thoughtout layout and setup was awesome (inc the super comfortable bed), it was well equipped with great extras like outdoor table and chairs – and all that at a really fair price too. By the end of our trip our campervan was as much a part of our memorable experience as the places we went to!

Nick and his family are super friendly, incredibly helpful and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Pickup and drop off to airport, tons of advice and the best service I've seen in ages. Nick went out of his way to help us out right from our first chat – when I first called everything was pretty much booked out, but when I mentioned it was a special trip for my son, he went out of his way and managed to sort a vehicle out for us which I greatly appreciate :).

I can't praise these guys enough and offer the highest of recommendations possible for this amazing friendly company. We'll be back again soon for another great adventure.

All the best

By far best vacation of our lives and it was made possible by renting our campervan from PiwiWiwi Campervans. Family owned and operated campervan company that truely cares about their customers. From the moment we met Nick it was evident his passion for exploring New Zealand and taking care of his customers. The campervan was immaculate and very well maintained for your safety. Nick picked us up from the hotel and brought us back to his family's home to sign paperwork and go over the ins and outs of the vans. He also is incredibly knowledgable about the south island so gave us tips of sites to see. Many advantages to PiwiWiwi over larger companies. 1. campervans are not marked so your van blends in more to deter any thiefs. 2. Family owned so it was very easy to get a hold of Nick on his cell phone if we had any concerns. (the weather changed for us and Nick gave us a great recommendation on how to modify our trip) 3. The layout of the vans are very smartly designed for comfort and storage. 4. The price is very reasonable. Please look no further for the best family owned campervan company in New Zealand.

We were given a thorough walk through of how the van was setup and where to find all the information about the van if needed later. With PiwiWiwi, the vans have no large branding identifiers which was nice so you were able to blend in with the locals, unlike the mainstream hires that plaster their logo all over the van. CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH!!!

My partner and I spent 3 weeks in the south island touring around in a piwiwiwi van this November. Even from the day we booked online, Nick was brilliant at providing us with all the information we needed for a smooth and hassle free trip. He picked us up from the airport and took us back to his home to sign the paperwork and go through the ins and outs of the van. Even though we had never driven or holidayed in a campervan before, he made us feel very confident and even more excited about our trip!
The van itself was flawless! Exactly what we expected and more. It was spacious enough to store all of our belongings and the standing room was a blessing. Great sized fridge, sink with running water and all the kitchen utensils/pots/pans you could need. Cooking was a breeze with the gas stove and there was also a grill too.
The little things had obviously been thought about which was much appreciated such as the inclusion of reusable shopping bags, coffee keepcups, clothes pegs etc. The list goes on!
We never had any issues with the van at all but if we had, I would have had confidence that Nick would have sorted it out.
The van was just the right size that there was plenty of space for 2 of us but it wasn't too large to be able to manoeuvre in and out of car parking spaces.

Piwiwiwi Campervans enabled us to have the best three weeks imaginable and (even with the very changeable weather) the van always provided us with a home away from home. Many thanks to Nick and family! Keep up the good work!!

Piwiwiwi was awesome! We rented a van from Nick for our two week honeymoon around the South Island. We drove about 3,000 km and camped in new places every night. The van is easy and comfortable to drive. As a passenger, it’s very comfortable. In terms of the living quarters, Nick has thought of everything. There is sufficient storage (more than we needed on our short trip), two options for tables, sufficient cooking/prep space, a reliable fridge, sufficient chargers, and a comfortable bed! There are lots of little details that made our lives easier; it’s clear that Nick and his family are van-lifers themselves, because he is so thorough! The van’s size is great, and the website was accurate in terms of the specs and what to expect. We enjoyed meeting Nick and his family - when you rent from Nick, you’re renting from a small family business, not a corporation. We loved that the vans were unmarked, so we didn’t scream “tourist.” We didn’t need any roadside support or help along the way (the van was in tip-top shape!), but Nick was very prepared for any condition and made himself available to us. In short - we had the BEST time, and the van was comfortable to sleep, cook, and travel in. This company deserves the praise - the vans are made with love! I hope we can come back and adventure with Piwiwiwi again!

The van is very cleverly designed with lots of space and everything you could need, including little extras you wouldn’t realise you might need - like a cheese grater, coffee press and electric heater! It was also very easy to drive. We also appreciated that the vans are unbranded, helping you to blend in more with the locals and the stunning surroundings. All in all, could not have been better - thank you PiwiWiwi!

It can be overwhelming researching campervan companies, who to choose and why. As soon as I started reading the amazing reviews on PiwiWiwi, I knew we had found the perfect company for us. It was such a pleasure from start to finish dealing with Nick and Julie’s family run company. Our van was beyond perfect! It was easy to drive, had more storage than we needed, very clever cabinetry, super comfy bed and bedding, and loads of thoughtful touches like a hot water bottle, coffee press, kitchen utensils that you actually need! (Hello grated cheese to add to our morning scrambled eggs)

NZ weather can be incredibly changeable, so being able to stand up and cook inside was a massive win..... we saw so many campers struggling to cook from the back of their vans in bad weather, and it didn’t look fun!

We like to travel a lot, and we are putting this 2 week adventure as probably the best holiday we’ve ever had..... and the majority of this praise goes to the very smart decision we made choosing PiwiWiwi. Nick made everything so easy, and we really appreciated that everything is included, and there are no hidden charges, or add ons.

We also loved that we are supporting a local family, and not a big multinational company. We also appreciated that the vans are unbranded, so you feel less conspicuous and more like a local.

We will definitely be back in 2021, and I won’t be needing to look at any other rental companies..... you can’t improve on perfection!

We had a fantastic experience in the Piwiwiwi camper van. We have been with so many other large companies where there are so many hidden costs and hoops you have to jump through. Piwiwiwi is a small family run business and right from the beginning we were soooooo happy we booked with them. Nick picked us up from the airport and took us back to his home where he gave us copious amounts of information and advice. We loved how up front everything was, no hidden costs and no tricks. They have all of these extras in the van too like a hot water bottle, outdoor chairs and a table, and a great doona all for no extra cost. The van ran so well, we had no issues at all. We were very warm at night and had everything we needed provided for us in the van :) we are so thankful to Nick and his family for our amazing experience. We would highly recommend them to anyone traveling to NZ.

Our 2-week holiday in New Zealand would not have been complete without our rental van from PiwiWiwi. Nick and Julie treat their customers like family and made sure we had everything we needed before we departed on our adventure. We had a blast driving around the north side of the South Island for 10 days, stopping at camp grounds and freedom camping along the way. Being able to pull over and hang out whenever and wherever we wanted was always nice and easy. We spent many nights playing card games and eating fresh cooked meals in the back of our vans. Sleeping in the vans was never a problem, comfy pillows and a space heater helped. The convenience of the PiwiWiwi Camper Vans cannot be beat. Always a good time and we hope to be back soon for another adventure!

Wow! We've been all over the world and have done some great adventures. This trip driving and camping the South island was the best so far. Thats hard to say because the last trip we took to NZ was the best (So we thought)! I think the biggest contributor to this success was the great folks at PIWIWIWI. The personal service from making the reservation to getting picked up and dropped off at the airport is Wonderfull. Its a small company that really cares about your experience and tries to make it as care free as possible while encouraging you to go explore. The PIWIWIWI fleet is clean, reliable and easy to live in and drive. The set up is great for freedom camping to holiday parks. We've put these vans to the test and always felt safe and comfortable. PIWIWIWI's included 24hr road assistance is great too. Haven't needed it but great to know its there. These vans are also easy to drive in the cities too. Small enough to swing around in towns and find easy parking. Driving in the wind in NZ is a challenge sometimes but PIWIWIWI vans do darn good job of staying where they should. If you want a great price, great service, and want to meet some great people, go PIWIWIWI.

I spent 13 days in a PiwiWiwi van making a loop around the northwest section of the South Island. The price was solid, the van was solid and well laid out. The owner clearly communicated in writing to make reservations, and clearly communicated verbally and in writing on all aspects of renting and using the van (including what to do in case of mishaps, but I didn't have to try that out). I wholeheartedly recommend renting from PiwiWiwi.

The greatest. Honestly, PiwiWiwi are the real deal. Look no further and book with these guys IMMEDIATELY. We initially liked the look of PiwiWiwi because of the personal sounding service and amazing reviews they already have on here, and boy we were not disappointed. While organising the camper before our arrival in NZ, Nick was incredibly responsive and helpful and it honestly felt like i was just emailing one of my mates. When we arrived Nick kindly picked us up from our hotel in Christchurch (all part of the PiwiWiwi service!) and we got to meet his wonderful family. We sorted out the paperwork and chatted in Nick and Julie's kitchen (!) and then set off in the camper with the family waving us off! Why on earth would you want to hire from some faceless corporate company when you can get this amazing personal service!

There are a lot of campers on the road in New Zealand but we had multiple different people comment on how great the PiwiWiwi camper looks inside and out. These vans have been beautifully kitted out by Nick himself and people will be seriously envious of you out there.

If we could give more than 10 on this review we would. Please do your holiday a massive favour and book with PiwiWiwi. This is by far the best camper van company in New Zealand - it's really that simple.

It was our first time renting a campervan to travel around the South island of NZ. Having said that, I can say that we were really fortunate to have found Piwiwiwi Campervans to provide us a campervan for the trip. Unlike the big companies, Nick and Julie both operate their small business from their home, so you can expect a lot of personalized service which we really enjoyed. They will make sure you are comfortable with the van and also share tips for your trip.

The van itself was just perfect. We drove over 3000km during our 3 week trip without any breakdowns or issues. It is one of the cleanest vehicle that we have been in, and everything in the van was designed with travelers convenience in mind. As for the rates, they were pretty damn competitive as compared to other companies. For the quality of the van we got, we could not have been happier. If we do decide to head back to NZ again we would not hesitate to get our van from Piwiwiwi again. Thanks again Nick and Julie for the amazing memories.

A solid 10/10 right from the moment we booked until handing the van back after over six weeks on the road and 6747 km across North and South Island. Nick and Julie are great people and will go out of their way to offer a personal service. We spent a good couple of hours before hitting the road, discussing routes and places to see on South Island. If there were any weather warnings Nick was quick to email us with a heads up. We also loved the fact he was able to pick us up and drop off back in Christchurch, free of charge. The visitor book was a lovely touch and had plenty of hidden gems from previous travelers which we enjoyed reading and adding to as we road tripped.

The van set up was spot on. It was a new build and on top condition. Plenty of storage, comfortable head room, large fridge, two hobs and handy charging points. We felt this set the bench mark for all other 2 berth vans and was very comfortable and practical for the 6 weeks we lived in her. We were sad to hand her back! The lack of branding is also a big plus, you don’t stick out like a tourist and can blend in more like a local.

If you want the trip of a lifetime in a van across NZ, book Piwiwiwi, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Hiring from Nick is more like borrowing a car off a mate. A very different experience to hiring from a large corporate hire company. We wouldn’t have changed a thing.

PiwiWiwi Campers is a great family run business. As our wonderful South Island trip progressed, my wife and I became more grateful for our fortune of dealing directly with the owners Nick and Julie. It's not only that Nick and Julie personally and thoughtfully build the campervans, nor that they completely equip them, nor that the campervans are highly maintained - so important when you find yourself remotely located. The real benefit we discovered was how Nick and Julie spent time in advance with a map giving us local tips so that we could have a great vacation. They answered all of our questions, as well as being available by cell should anything arise. It was an absolute pleasure doing business with caring owners of PiwiWiwi Campers!

The bed was more comfortable than I expected, and we had plenty of room for all our belongings. We did have a mechanical problem with the van and needed to have AA come get it started. We had to take it to the service station to get checked, thus the rating of a 9 rather than a 10, but Nick was extremely responsive to the problem and our concerns - I honestly can't imagine getting better customer service from anyone else! The van was comfortable, reliable, well-equipped, and the quality fit-out has a very bespoke, home-made feel. I would highly recommend exploring New Zealand in a PiwiWiwi camper. The vans are compact but loaded! And it will be the envy of the campsite. Seriously, prepare yourself to give tours to the other curious campers. Hands down the best build out on the road!

Renting from Nick and a Julie (new PiwiWiwi owners) is also pleasant. Quite the opposite of a typical rental car experience. Instead of spending heaps of time in a queue and signing paperwork - you get very personalized service and awesome local tips. I even got serve weather updates while on the road!

From our very first email contact with Nick and Julie to sadly returning our van last week, our Piwiwiwi experience has been excellent in every way! Having such a personal and friendly service, along with tips on activities and routes to take whilst on the road definitely allowed us to get the most from our trip. The van was clearly well looked after and the internal layout was incredibly practical and made great use of the space available - everything we needed during the four weeks we were away had already been thought of and was easily to hand. The van size on the whole was ideal, big enough to stand up and feel comfortable but small enough to fit into city centre parking spots and down those interesting gravel roads that always lead to something good! If you are looking for a reliable, friendly and accomodating company for your NZ adventures we cannot recommend Piwiwiwi highly enough. Thanks Nick, Julie and your little helpers! I'm sure we will be back! Lizzie & Sean

My girlfriend and I travelled around New Zealand’s South Island for a month and could not have had a better experience with PiwiWiwi! The van was perfect for our travels, easy to drive on New Zealand’s often narrow roads and more than big enough for the two of us to live comfortably. The van (a.k.a Jimmy) ran perfectly the entire time and felt like home by the end of our travels. PiwiWiwi provided everything we needed during our time in the van and tons of helpful tips about where to visit on the island! It’s hard to put into words what an amazing time we had exploring New Zealand thanks in large part to PiwiWiwi. We would HIGHLY recommend renting from PiwiWiwi and would drop everything in a heartbeat and do it all over again if we could!

PIWIWIWI Campervans made our New Zealand experience unforgettable! The excellent customer service provided from the booking process to the door to door service when we arrived at the airport made PIWIWIWI stand out. They provided a relaxed, confident, worry-free experience, that made this trip one of the best we have ever had. The van was perfect for our needs. It was comfortable, safe, easy to drive and well equipped with stove, fridge, sink, and toilet. The extra furnishings and kitchenware that PIWIWIWI includes made our trip so much easier. The attention to detail and layout of the interior made it very functional in all weather conditions. The van came with solid bike rack for our 2 bikes and helmets, which were also arranged and provided by PIWIWIWI. It made the trip so much more enjoyable to be able to get out and ride. The interior surf board storage system worked out great as well.
Although we were on a shorter adventure, PIWIWIWI accommodated us and made sure we had a great unforgettable experience. Our route took us from Christchurch, South through the Catlins, through the Fjord lands to Queenstown, inland on the scenics to Tekapo, back to the beach in Amberley,
finishing in Christchurch. We used the RANKERS APP and it worked out beautifully. It showed us everything we needed. We found some great places to stay and mixed it up with some freedom camping and holiday park overnights. We saw the greatest sights, met the nicest people, ate delicious food, and drove about 1800 kms on some of the best roads in the world. Our PIWIWI camper van took us there. We will be back to explore more of New Zealand and will definitely do it with PIWIWIWI. Maybe next time we will get to see some sheep.

Piwiwiwi is an excellent company that is truly family-centric. Nick and his family make the whole rental experience so comfortable and are extremely trust-worthy. Why rent from a large company where you are just a dollar sign when you can rent from a company like Piwiwiwi? They made us feel very confident in our trip and the rental process, both before and during our rental. We had the pleasure of meeting the whole family during our complimentary airport pick-up and drop-offs and these types of guestures are what we value in a company that we are relying on for something as important as a campervan rental (since it is both transportation AND accomodation!).

The vans are older model Toyota Hi-Aces (as of this post), although they are in the process of upgrading their fleet. This did not bother us at all since our van was meticulously cared for, in great mechanical and cosmetic shape, and suited our needs. The vans are equipped with literally all the basics, and we did not find we needed anything more. Sure they are no racecars, but that's not why you rent a campervan! It's best to go slow and enjoy the beautiful NZ scenery anyways. The vans are also without any flashy logos and paint jobs so they look less touristy, which we enjoyed.

Overall, this is the company you should be renting from if you value trust in business, good relationships, and an authentic Kiwi travel experience. Much thanks to Nick, Julie, Holly, and William for an unforgettable experience!

We hired our campervan from PiwiWiwi Campervans. Booking the van, pick up, our 15 days traveling around New Zealand and the drop off of the van, could not have gone smoother. Nick was on hand from day one to offer advice and tips on how we could get the best out of our trip, replying to numerous emails, making special arrangements to meet us to pick up the van. No bureaucracy or hard sell of extras when signing contract, conditions of hire were those agreed at the beginning. The campervan was really well fitted out with everything one could need. Nick's manual on the workings of the van definitely is a contender for 'Campervans for Dummies'. We were so sorry to have to return the van as we could have kept going, but all good things must come to an end. Again returning the campervan was easy, no searching for parking space in large return carpark and queuing to return keys, but a civilised trip out to the country where we met Nick, Julie, Holly and William. Nick then drove us and all our luggage back to our accommodation in Christchurch, what more could you ask for. Thanks Nick

Hat is off to Nick and Julie of PiwiWiwi Campervans for providing us the means for having an amazingly easy and relaxed trip. It was a bit daunting choosing a company to rent from, but what set PiwiWiwi apart, from the beginning, and what was somewhat refreshing, was, the personalized service. Nick was continually helpful and responsive from the moment I made my first inquiry and continually provided a wealth of knowledge and advice to help us plan our trip. He made it easy and accommodating getting to and from the airport in Christchurch, and an added treat of getting acquainted with Nick and Julie, and the Campervan on their great property. Only a few minutes away, Rangiora, was a convenient place to shop before hitting the road.
The Toyota Hi Ace was a well seasoned and formidable road warrior. Made every km. smooth and care free. Felt totally confident of its performance and handling of narrow windy roads. We were told we set the record for km. driven this season. Definitely appreciated the low key, no logo look of the van. and really!! easy to park and maneuver.
It really worked out well, and had everything we needed for the two of us (6'1" and 5'4") for the 3 1/2 weeks we made it our home. And we're still close, if not closer, friends for it.
Thanks Nick and Julie for making such a large part of our trip an experience of a lifetime.

An amazing experience travelling through New Zealand, and made all the more perfect by using a campervan from PiwiWiwi! Nick and Julie made the whole experience so easy and enjoyable. They were always available to help if needed and were incredibly hospitable and welcoming. From little things such as suggestions of routes and where to go, to providing us with emergency phone numbers to use at any time if needed, to dropping us at the airport, Nick and Julie were always happy to help. The van itself was great- comfortable, clean, spacious enough for three adults and well equipped for our trip.
I really do believe that our trip through New Zealand was made so special due to PiwiWiwi. The personal touch and amazing service made the experience so easy and comfortable, and meant we could enjoy all that New Zealand has to offer without any concerns about the van getting in the way. Wunderful experience. The entire conversation prior to our trip, during our trip and afterwards was very friendly and helpful. Nick picked us up and took us to his home where we met his lovely family and picked up the van. We felt very comfortable around them all the time. While Nick explained me the van our son got to play with Nicks little one. Nick also had some very helpful suggestions to our route and during our trip sent us an E-Mail as there was a cyclone approaching to warn us. Also prior to our trip he sent us some tricks and tips to make our trip easier and a list of their favorite places in New Zealand so we could include them in our plan. And the places he suggested were absolutely stunning and well worth it.
It's all very familiar, friendly and laid back. There is a guestbook in the van where you can share your experiences. It's a great way to find nice places and know of places you might want to avoid.
You can tell Nick and his family care about the people and also the van. Even though the vans are a bit older, they are in perfect condition because Nick really looks after them.
We had the best time in the van "Kotuku" (name it was given by former travellers) and with Piwiwiwi and will recommend them anytime. We will come back to New Zealand and we'll choose Piwiwiwi again!
Thanks Nick, Julie and your lovely kids!

We celebrated 30 year wedding anniversary with a 4 week campervan tour of the South Island in Feb 2018. So there was lots of reading and weeks of stress about choosing a good company to rent from (there seem to be many brokers selling rentals from the big name companies). Initially I thought we should rent a 'newer' van with low kilometres in order to feel assured that things wouldn't break or breakdown (I read way too may negative Trip Advisor forums)
Then I happened upon Piwiwiwi and after a couple of emails with owners Nick and Julie knew that this was the company to book with. The van was not new and not low kilometres - part of what made it so perfect, we never stressed about the sand or mud that found its way in though mechanically it never missed a beat. The van was comfortable, very well maintained, clean, had everything we needed and nothing we didn't, and Nick was happy to source any extras if requested. And it cost us significantly less than any of the big rental co's meaning we had more money for adventures ( jet boating, skydiving, tours, cruises, hiring bikes, kayaks etc - NZ is so beautiful and so much fun!). Very importantly too, Piwiwiwi vans are discreet - I.e not highly visibly branded.

Nick and Julie take pride in their business, show integrity and are invested in making sure their customers have a great holiday experience, their attentiveness to us was faultless. I have no hesitation in rating our experience 10 stars and highly recommending Piwiwiwi and owners Nick and Julie as great people to hire from. We plan to return to NZ in a year or two and we won't be hiring with any other company.

This is the second time that we have taken a holiday in NZ and we chose to hire a van again from PiwiWiwi. We felt that PiwiWiwi's customer service was even better than previous - and it was great last time! Our van was super reliable. We asked for the exact same van as last time (memories!) and we had no issues at all. Not one! He did us proud. The first thing we thought when we drove off was; the van feels taken care of. You can tell that PiwiWiwi take time between customers to make sure their vans are as well presented as they possibly can be.
Nick and Julie were so warm and helpful. Always happy to help or answer questions on the run-up to the holiday. Happy to sit down and talk with us in their own home on our arrival and make us feel welcome, after collecting us from the airport. It was great to get some tips and ask their opinion as locals on some of the places we were thinking of visiting. Nick checked if we were getting on OK after there had been some bad weather mid-way through our trip. They care about their customers!
We had a fantastic 31 days in our PiwiWiwi van and wouldn't hesitate to hire from them again if we return (really hope we can in the not too distant future!).

Our PiwiWiwi was just perfect. It was clean, had all the stuff you might need and drove along smoothly for 7.500 kilometres - Nick told us we are currently holding the record for the season! :) The vans might not be the newest but in fact, in comparison to newer models, we found that we liked ours the best: the layout is very clever and we often noticed that we had much more storage space for our stuff than most other people in different (and newer) vans. Being able to stand, sit and cook inside is a big bonus during rainy days. Nick and Julie had great some great tips for our journey and were lovely hosts. Thanks again for everything!

What an amazing service it has been! We were a 3-generation family of 6, renting 2 vans from Piwiwiwi to cover the North and South island in 6 weeks time. The communication throughout the renting proces (before and during) has been flawless, with Nick being available for any request or question. The vans are perfect, and found a sleeping solution for our 2 small kids with Nick beforehand. During our travels we also added bicycles to the rental for a few weeks, which was great (including brand new child seats!). Piwiwiwi does not spare any effort to make you feel welcome and serviced.

We traveled New Zealand for 4 weeks with PiwiWiwi and are extremely pleased with the service!

The owners Nick and Julie were wonderful hosts. Upon arrival, guests are picked up from the airport or in our case our hotel where we spend one night to recuperate (highly recommended), and were brought to the airport at the end of our trip. We really enjoyed the fact that piwiwiwi is a small family business and Nick and Julie take the time to explain everything and answer any question you might have before going on the road. Also during our trip, we were able to contact them at any time when we had a question about the car.

Even though the campervan was not the newest model, that was actually a good thing! Newer vans have a lot of (too much for us) storage space and limited space to maneuver within the campervan, whereas ours had perfect proportions and really nice features such as USB chargers added to it. The van includes everything you need in terms of utensils, pots, pans, linen, and we could take two extra camping chairs free of charge. Also the fact that the van isn't branded is a bonus. The van was easy to drive and made all the mountain peaks and hills easily. Only hiccup was that the water tank was air-locked quite often making it seem like the tank was empty. With help from Nick we figured out how to fix this problem.

We definitely recommend this company!

They picked us up from the airport (and returned us to the airport after our adventure) which took the stress out of wondering where to go after we arrived in the country. We were given a very useful tour of the van, which was a Toyota HiAce which has an excellent layout and is fully kitted out/self contained for freedom camping for a couple of people (or couple with young child). PiwiWiwi gave us some top tips on where to go before we set off, and they checked on us halfway through our trip to ensure we were ok. We certainly had an excellent holiday thanks to them. SUMMARY:
We would definitely recommend Piwiwiwi!
SERVICE:
Piwiwiwi was high quality service from start to finish on our 26 day rental. The van ran perfectly the entire time. Nick was helpful and accessible the entire trip. The whole experience felt very personal and positive, a perk of renting from a small, family operation.
CAMPER:
The van itself is one of the older models so you are not going to win any races going up hills. Just take advantage of all the lovely view points and pull-outs.
All in all it was a cosy and comfortable set up, everything was well cared for and very clean.
The set up with the kitchen in the front, bed in the back, is ideal with adequate storage and very well stocked. It had every thing we needed (think the little things like cheese grater, bottle opener, French press for coffee and tea, clothes line and pins, camping chairs and so on).
There was enough standing room for two people to move around comfortably.
The bed was firm but not too firm, still very comfortable. The extra pillows and extra blanket were very welcome!
Lighting in the van was very good, which was particularly nice for those rainy afternoons and evenings.
We cooked plenty on the little stove and it worked very well. I recommend setting up the table either outside or inside for additional food preparation space, worked like a charm for us.
ISSUES:
On the first day we noticed the secondary battery was not charging via driving (was fine if plugged in). We contacted Nick and it was sorted immediately.
We also had an issue with the passenger side door. It would not make a tight seal. We decided not to bother Nick with this while we were traveling. It was more of a minor annoyance than anything and we wanted to keep on the move. Unfortunately for us, we found out the hard way that when it rained hard, it would leak. We walked through this with Nick when we dropped off the van. He was very apologetic and is getting it looked at right away.

Extremely pleased with the overall Piwiwiwi experience in New Zealand.

Nick, the business owner, is incredibly professional and very friendly. He'll pick you up from the airport, provide you with every single bit of information you need to have an awesome trip. His pricing are very competitive and there are absolutely no hidden fees. Everything is explained black and white during the communication with him to secure the booking.

They cares so much about the 8 vans they own, that he and his wife actually clean and prep them by themselves instead of paying someone to do it. Conclusion: A very clean van, in excellent working order (not once in 20 days did we have anything fail on us) and most of all very discreet (no branding)...and trust me that's a big plus out there!

Van has got plenty of space for all your stuff, an actual full size double bed, stove, fridge, sink... and an oven! It's also fully loaded with quality cooking equipment!

100% recommend this company, enjoy your trip!

Delighted with everything after my 5 week surf / SUP tour of North and South Islands with PiwiWiwi Campervans.
I could tell from the start from the personal emails, answering all my questions including "Will a 9ft x 30" SUP fit in the roof with a 6'4" surfboard?" Answer YES! and it was easy - They both went up there in the straps and when then tilted I had almost full headroom in the middle of the van. Would have managed a 9'6" easily. Perfect - Boards safe, paddle under the bed and hired bike strapped on the back - I was away on 6250KM trip.
The van was reliable, fast enough and comfortable to do long hours on the roads, which is easy to do with that amazing landscape out of each window, everywhere you go.
Major advantage of this smaller van size is the ease of parking - Spent a week in St Clairs, Dunedin where I was able to park overlooking the point break each day and wait for optimal surf conditions while drinking tea! No larger van would have got anywhere near this spot.
I started off Freedom camping, but the camp sites are cheap - Normally $20NZ per night - Quite reasonable. 4G is nearly everywhere so navigation with Google Maps on your phone is easy - Bring a phone mount!
On my arrival and departure, Nick and Julie were most hospitable - The van was parked in the shade of an outbuilding to let me settle in and pack up in comfort - The weather was great!
If I go back to NZ I will definitely do it with PiwiWiwi Campervans.
Leave all your travel plugs etc. at home - Plenty of power by the USB chargers front and back of vans. Didn't use the portaloo, as toilets everywhere in NZ, and much better quality then I'm used to in the UK.
Do not hesitate to book - You won't get it cheaper or better elsewhere!
PS. I scored some epic surf and the surfers are pretty friendly if you are considerate in your approach! Even to a SUP!

Thanks to PiwiWiwi we had a great experience travelling NZ. They are a family business, the contact is personal & warm. Before the trip, they gave us some practical tips, and when we were there we noticed that they really do 'the extra mile' for their customers.

While looking for campervans before the trip, we didn't know about some little details that make the travel better. The vans are very well-organised with the optimal storage vs. space ratio. They are tidy and contain all that is necessary (sheets, blankets, towels, etc.). The van was reliable, the engine ran smoothly, and we felt at ease. Although, we felt completely assured knowing their well organisation, in case of any issues.

During the trip, we really liked that there wasn't any advertisement on the van. Before the travel, we thought that a portable toilet would be necessary (which the vans do contain), but NZ is full of public toilets and showers. This made the type of campervan perfect : compact but spacious. The vans are Self-Contained, which means you can camp on all available places.

We can keep on writing all positive aspects, but there's one argument that beats all: when we come back to NZ, it will be with PiwiWiwi :-) !!

Thanks Nick & Julie, and Holly hopefully we see each other again :-)

Thanks to Anna and Niall for the lovely and very useful campervan. We really enjoyed travelling with 'Jimmy' through New Zealand. The van is very well equipped, reduced to the max and easy to drive. And you get a free shuttle from and to Auckland Aitport. We highly recommend the PiwiWiwi Campervans!

Through the referral of some like minded friends in Canada we discovered Piwiwiwi Campervans. We were picked up at the airport in Auckland by Niall who then drove the two of us to Raglan. There we met with Anna to go over the campervan and the brief but necessary paperwork. Then we were off for an incredible 4 weeks exploring. No itinerary, just the way we like it. The campervan was outfitted with everything we needed. Anna also loaned us useful guidebooks and we used the Rankers Camping NZ app for navigation and selecting campsites. That reliable, efficient Toyota was our home and even though the roads of New Zealand are narrow and winding (plus frequently windy and wet) the handling of the campervan was smooth. We liked that Piwiwiwi is a small company with friendly, helpful owners. Niall and Anna obviously respect and care about New Zealand and want their clients to have a positive experience.

Amazing time with PiwiWiwi. The campervan is in great shape and rental is easygoing and straightforward - no hidden or extra costs. Everything you need is included. Anna & Niall are so nice - they really take the time to help you with your trip and answer all the questions about insurance, repair costs, etc. They gave us many great tips for outdoor activities and surf spots. Also if we had any questions on the road we could call them day or night. The campervan is perfect - everything has its place, comfortable bed, alot of storage and because the vehicle is not to big - its very easy to park and maneuver. The surf straps in the campervan are genius. We could store away 4 surfboards easily and they were never in the way.

We will book with them again for sure. We had such a great time in NZ!

AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!
Niall and Anna were very easy to communicate with from the beginning of the rental process via email and by phone when on the road. Once we arrived in NZ they were extremely accommodating in terms of picking us up from the airport and dropping us back off two months later. They provided a great, very detailed, walk through of the van and how to trouble shoot things if necessary. They also provided us with loads of info on great places to check out, road rules and off line road apps to use. They were so excited for us to start our 2 month adventure and we were very happy with the camper van and loved having it as our home all around the north and south island. Overall, they are down to earth, awesome people, who love to travel and love to help other travellers see NZ the right way!!!! Thank you Niall and Anna for your great customer service, you helped make our trip unforgettable :)

We had an awsome trip with Piwiwiwi Campervans! Anna and Niall were really nice and helpful throughout our trip! They had a lot if good advices for outdoor tours as well as for surfing and they were also very flexible with the return of the campervan - as we liked it so much we actually extended our trip two times!!!
The vans are in perfect shape and you can also drive gravel roads with it - no problem! the size of the van is perfect for couples - the bed is comfy and big enough for 2 pax. and
the surf straps are genius - the surfboards are safely stored away if you don't need it! New Zealand was a real highlight the campervan was the perfect way to do it! We really can recommend Piwiwiwi: service, product and experience are a 10+!

We travelled New Zealand for the first time in Feb and Mar 2016. The experience was everything we had hoped for and then some. The success of our trip was due, in no small part, to Anna and Niall's hospitality and friendly and helpful service. They did everything possible to make our first trip to NZ comfortable - the only problem was they set such a high standard of expectation for service and friendliness that all other experiences were measured against them. I have to say that NZ did not disappoint there either...but that is for another review.

Our Piwiwiwi van was very comfortable and well maintained. It became a warm and cozy home away from home for us for six weeks and performed admirably as we toured all of the North and South Islands...on some very challenging roads. The van didn't miss a beat and we were trouble free for the entire trip. Not that we were worried as Anna and Niall gave us confidence before we left that any trouble that may happen would be dealt with swiftly and with the care that they gave to the service they showed in transporting us from the airport and advising us on the trip.

I would highly recommend Piwiwiwi to anyone visiting New Zealand.

We've just had an incredible 45 day stay in 'Pristine Christine' (our PiwiWiwi camper) adventuring and travelling across both islands! We had so much fun we really didn't want to come home- 6 weeks was only just long enough! Anna and Niall were amazing- loads of great tips and advice as well as the bonus of collection and drop offs (thanks guys!!) The van was perfect- loads of space and everything we could need in the kitchen! The layout inside is great... we even had locals commenting on how good it was! The non-branded exterior was a bonus for us too as it meant we blended in with the locals. We would also recommend hiring the boogie boards with PiwiWiwi (if you aren't already prepped to surf) as we used them all over the place!

We would 100% hire with these guys again!

We rented a PiwiWiwi for a month this year, and what an amazing experience it was! It started with the communications and booking of the van. Anna and Niall were very quick to respond to our emails providing a lot of very relevant information for planning our trip. We were very flexible with our planning and Anna and Niall helped us explore the various options until we reached a solution that suited us best.
One of the fantastic options they provide is delivery and pickup from Auckland. We were already in NZ and there was no need to get picked up at the airport. Our hostel was actually a lot further. Also we wanted to spend a few days in Raglan so our transfer was actually a few days before our rental started.
When we arrived at the office to pickup the van everything was very well prepared. The van looked immaculate and all the paperwork was ready. We were provided with a very detailed description of the van and on our request spent quite some time discussing various routes and sights that we wanted to visit. This really helped us make the most of our trip as we were given some excellent tips on campsite locations, attractions, coffee places etc, most of which we would otherwise never have found.
As for the van, well it was just fantastic! During our trip we compared many of the other vans, and very few came close to ours. For starters it had very little markings so you don't stand out as a tourist as much. Secondly the van is very well equipped. The standard equipment you would expect was of a very good quality and there were a lot of nice extra perks. A french press coffee pot with coffee cups with lids to use on the bumpy NZ roads, loads of USB chargers, iPhone plugin for the radio, a nice grill, lovely duvet, extra towels and a safe box to name a few.
Technically the van is easy to drive, and everything performed perfectly; very nice after hearing some other horror stories.

All in all a great rental company that really cares!
Thanks Anna and Niall.

Just returned from a month-long Piwiwiwi camper van holiday throughout NZ (we travelled 3,300 kilometers). Cannot think of a better way to have more fun and better adventure than being self-contained in a mini camper van from Piwiwiwi. New Zealanders and visitors are crazy about traveling with camper vans; as such, the camping infrastructure is easy and plentiful. Being self-contained in one of the well-equipped and comfortable Piwiwiwi vans made our time in New Zealand fun and relaxing.

We initially chose another van rental company, but quickly redirected our business to Anna and Niall when their personal attention and interest in addressing our queries demonstrated their desire to provide superior service. We went with them because of the following: no hidden costs, they were easy to work with and the van was a reasonably priced package. The website says it all; they honestly deliver the goods as advertised.

The van we rented was by some standards a little older (2003) than some of the other rentals out there, but we found the vehicle was well-maintained, clean, well-appointed with the essentials and ready to use. A Toyota Hi-Ace is commonly known as one of the hardest wearing workhorses in the industry. Ours ran like a top! It started every time, had a solar panel that kept the fridge running all the time (no worrying about leaving the car for multi-day hikes), ran on regular leaded fuel (best priced gas) and never let us down. The smaller dimensions make it easy to handle and allowed us to stop in normal parking spots in towns (and other places one might not consider with a larger unit).

The interior was equipped with everything we needed to live comfortably for a month for two people. How nice not to have to put up and take down a tent. Bring your camera and clothing as everything else is included, even a beach towel.

Piwiwiwi is a 10 in our books and NZ is a must do.

Me and my wife rented a piwiwiwi campervan for our honeymoon. We lived in the toyata hiAce for 2.5 months and were absolutely happy with it. The campervan never caused any trouble and Anna and Niall (the lovely couple behind piwiwiwi) have put a lot of useful stuff in it. We also rented 2 surfboards that could be stored easily inside the van (on the top) without getting in our way when cooking, sleeping etc. Before we started our trip I have checked out many other companies but piwiwiwi had by far the best offer (price) and the friendliest replies. No matter what questions we had before or during the trip: Anna answered all of them and offered solutions tailored to our needs. She even asked us about our travelling interests and based on that gave advice on where to stay. Niall drove all the way from Raglan to Auckland to pick us up in our hotel. This review is not a commercial. We were just truly impressed by Anna and Niall and completely satisfied with the campervan and the fair price we paid for it. Cheers, Anu & Marcel from Switzerland

If you are planning a trip to New Zealand, most will tell you that a self contained camper van is the way to go, and our experience with Piwiwiwi was absolutely perfect! The personalized service and caring attitude was just the beginning. Our month long adventure through the north and south islands was made so much more fun by having our home on wheels. Traveling by camper van had the flexibility that we wanted during our vacation, and the days spent driving were some of the most beautiful. The camper van is outfitted with everything you need, and I was surprised at how much I loved our little house, and how much space I actually needed. Initially we thought that we would spend the occasional night at a hotel or B&B, but we found staying in the cozy camper van was the best and easiest option. It was easy to cook on the little stove top , and we even invited a camp neighbor over for dinner one rainy night and we sat together at the surprisingly spacious table(which then easily turns into a bed). The whole experience was such a dream that I have reconsidered how much "stuff" I actually need and have begun to simplify and purge- is it going too far to say life changing??All expectations exceeded- Highly highly recommended!

My husband and I rented a HiAce from Anna & Niall for 31 nights over December 2015 and January 2016. We had such an amazing time. I had e-mails with Anna for a good number of months beforehand and she was always so helpful in sending over advice. On arrival we were picked up from the airport and Anna then sat with us for a couple of hours and we talked over a map; she recommended places to visit and gave us useful booklets on DOC campsites, a big book of everything NZ... it was all covered.

We had a detailed tour of our van (Percy) and set off! As non-surfers the van still had everything we needed. There was enough storage space for our clothes, luggage bags, shoes etc. All the utensils you could need are included, as are other helpful things like a foldout table, camping chairs, a blanket should you need it and ample electronic charging points. My husband is 6'4" and was worried about headroom - it was all good. So for anyone wondering if height will be an issue, don't worry (unless you are vastly taller than 6'4").

I would recommend to anyone to rent from PiwiWiwi and I am so glad we chose them. I feel that we had a hundred times better customer service than we would have if we went with other well known brands that you see all over NZ.... I feel that we had extra perks like the lifts to/from the airport, the hours and hours of advice, the posting home of a hat we accidentally left in the van! I could go on...

If you are planning a trip to NZ, give these guys a shout!! They care that their customers have a great time and are not just a sales number.

We miss our van and NZ and hope to come back, so Anna & Niall, I hope to be renting from you again :-)

My wife and I rented a HiAce for five weeks and loved our experience. Anna and Niall were great to work with all the way from booking to returning to the airport. Anna spent a lot of time with us before we took off to review our itinerary and provide excellent inside tips about where to go and where the best camping spots are. This session led us to alter our itenerary for the better.

As non-surfers we found the van to be kitted up nicely. Many campervans have huge logos and/or graphics that scream "I am a tourist please steal stuff from me" but the Piwiwiwi vans aren't branded and really make you feel like a local in and out of campgrounds and freedom camping spots. It's a small company that provides great customer service - I know because I banged up our van a little and they handled everything for us so it didn't add any stress to our trip. The prices are great compared to other companies but, the vans are a little older. We had had a couple of maintenance issues with the van that were handled great by Anna and Niall but were still an inconvenience. From reading other reviews though it doesn't appear to be a widespread problem and we are just one data point. To reiterate, the customer service was incredible. If/when we come back to NZ (it is amazing) we would definitely rent from Piwiwiwi again. It is almost a month later and we are still talking about how much we miss our van Templeton.

Such a great experience! Niall and Anna have done an amazing job with their small fleet of vans. They are very well maintained and have everything you could ever need. I should know after 6 weeks of living in one that there were no complaints or lacking of equipment. There was not one problem with the van during the entire trip! It started and ran perfectly every day, even after I put over 12,000 km on it! Starting off in Raglan was fantastic, one of my favorite towns in all NZ. It allowed for awesome first and last nights and a relaxing town to start the adventure, compared to starting in busy Auckland. Definitely got better treatment by the locals in this van as it wasn't a giant RV with huge banners and logos of the rental company's name. (Hope Niall decides to keep the logos off!) Everyone thought I owned it! Loved that the most as I was able to share some beers, surf stories and even whitebait with some locals :) If you are a surfer, look no further and book with Piwiwiwi. The van is rigged with everything you could need, easy board storage and Raglan is a great surf town to start out. Driving manual was no problem, even when I learned just 2 weeks prior to the trip! For the price, service, quality of the van, and overall experience, look no further than Piwiwiwi!!! I will definitely be booking with them in the future and suggesting them to everyone I know!

Firstly let me just say that Anna and Niall were amazing, from the initial contact right the way through the whole trip. I had a fantastic time travelling around the North island with Ruru (one of the Base Jumper Campervans), and I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to see New Zealand.

After collecting me from the airport Anna and Niall spent plenty of time with me explaining the features of the van and some of the best spots to visit, they also provided me with a copy NZ Frenzy which is great guide book from seeing some of the hidden gems of the North Island.

The Base Jumper Campervan has everything you need for a great trip - just chuck your stuff in, add fuel and food & drink and away you go. Having a self-contained vehicle also allows you stay in Freedom camping spots around New Zealand, which means you can stay overnight right by the beach for free!
If you’re planning to visit New Zealand, give these guys a shout before anyone else, I honestly cannot recommend them enough.

Thanks again Anna and Niall for making my first couple of month in New Zealand so memorable.

We spent five amazing weeks travelling around the North and South Islands in a BaseJumper. What's not to like? We aren't surfers but the van was equipped with absolutely everything we could need, and more. We had very hot weather, very cold weather and very very wet weather and the van kept us cool or warm and dry as we needed! We self-catered nearly all of the time and found it really easy. Fridge is a great size so you can stock up, which can be a big help - especially on the South Island. Wine rack too! We didn't freedom camp but stayed on a mix of holiday parks and DOC campsites, with and without power, and never experienced a problem. Anna was great, right from our first enquiry through to our last contact, and she gave us some really good tips about places to stay and things to do. For our NZ leg of our 'Round the world trip' we wanted to do it in a camper. Finding the right company, never mind van, is daunting.

For us, our criteria was as follows: value for money, excellent customer service, good-sized van. Simple as that. Money and van size are the obvious ones and will no doubt be top of this list no matter your budget or trip plan. Customer service might be the curve ball. This was important to us for 3 reasons:

1. 6 weeks and nearly 6,000km means a long time on the road. If we needed advice and tips, we wanted to know we could get it.

2. All the vans, no matter who you go with, will have clocked up some miles. So if something goes wrong, you want to know it'll be dealt with in the best and fastest way possible to keep you motoring.

3. It's just a lot more pleasant if the people you're dealing with care, love what they do and are just nice to deal with from the outset.

So rather than waffle, we'll tell you that Anna & Niall's Piwiwwi ticked all the boxes. Right from our initial email exchanges, through to meeting them and going for breakfast together at the end of our trip, we felt reassured and happy. We hired the Basejumper for the extra room and it was the perfect size. We took it all around the North & South islands, mainly freedom & DOC camped and loved it. The Basejumper is a workhorse. Nice to drive, easy to park and kitted out well. Extra touches put in by the team all added to our enjoyment. Our van had 'a moment' at one point with an electrical issue, completely out of the Piwiwwi teams control. We were well in our travels as well but a quick call to Anna & Niall and they were all over it. They took control, did all the liaising with the local mechanics and got us back on the road. Just highlighting exactly why it's important to make sure the company you're hiring from is going to take care of you when and if you need them.

So far, on our world trip, NZ has been our high point so we wanted to say thank you to Anna & Niall.

When we decide to organize our self a great 5-weeks round trip in NZ to celebrate our retirement, we contacted several campervan companies, but only PiwiWiwi provided us incredible helpful advice. Anna and Niall answered (quickly and patiently) all our questions and were very flexible.
The transfer from Auckland to Raglan happened stress less and comfortable and was a great opportunity to clarify many practical questions (driving in NZ…) with Niall.
Our Toyota van was expecting us, clean and full equipped, easy to drive and, after 1 hour briefing and loading, for our amazing adventure : 5.200 km, 5 weeks… and no problem.
As hikers, we “surfed” some Great Walks and we appreciated the campervan was self-contained, with a lot of internal space and nice enhancements making our live easier… to spend nights everywhere.
It was also a very comforting feeling to have a 0800 phone number to contact PiwiWiwi at any time for any question or emergency.
PiwiWiwi price was competitive for a top campervan experience ; this was great value for money !
We will definitively recommend you to prefer PiwiWiwi for their personalized service, their friendly partnership and their comfortable & reliable campervans.

WOW! I can't stress enough how impressed (and incredibly happy) we were with our experience renting from Ana & Niall. They really care about providing their customers with a well-maintained, reliable van. We drove all over the South Island (and some of the North) and didn't have a single problem with the van. It was clean, had tonnes of storage space, and extra additions that were bonus conveniences, such as the USB plug for charging electronics. Aside from the van being amazing, Ana gave us some incredibly helpful advice for things to do and see which were outside of the busy touristy spots. Ana also provided us with some great hiking books and a surf guide, and from these we ended up finding some hidden gems. Ana was quick to respond to emails, and very flexible with extending our van rental (although this was in November/early December, so before the busy season). We had originally only booked the van for 18 days, but ended up keeping the van for most of our trip (5 weeks) because we loved it so much. The van was easy to drive, and the 'app' that Ana recommended we download for DOC and free camping spots was one of the better apps - with easy to follow maps. We ended up passing on this info to lots of other travellers that we met along the way. We would 100% recommend renting from them - it was one of the best decisions we ever made in regards to our NZ trip! Niall and Ana were also very accommodating with rides to and from Auckland. To top it all off, Ana and Niall are really awesome people, so we were incredibly happy to be able to help their business thrive!

Niall and Anna are awesome. You may find yourself contemplating moving to the charming seaside surf town Raglan just to hang out with them and of course, take advantage of the surf and sunsets. The BaseJumper is easily worth the investment in comfort. Comfort in knowing you’ll have the power and nimbleness to navigate the narrow twisting roads and in having a very well maintained and amazingly clean vehicle. You may realize that your house back home is much too large and all you really need in life is contained within the vehicle. I initially chose PiwiWiwi because they are ranked #1 and after spending 3 weeks with their equipment and a fun filled ride to and from the airport, I can say they earned that top spot.

We had great holidays.
Our family (2 adults and one 4 year-old child) rented a small van. The van was clean (I didn't know how van for surfers would look like). All of the additions made a difference to my eyes: (i) self-contained certification gives access to much more freedom, (ii) 4 USB plugs to recharge all electronic appliances, (iii) better sound speakers, because we're are on holidays.

Being the driver, I also appreciated a much more responsive engine and a well spaced gear box (when compared to a similar van from another company last year).

Raglan and Kawhia are much less touristic than the East coast and I really enjoyed black sand, hot springs on the beach. You don't need to go far to start enjoying the landscape.

Anna and her husband really paid attention to our satisfaction. Don't hesitate to tell what needs fixing in the van for the next person hiring it (batteries for the fridge probably reached their end of life).

Make sure to ask them what Piwiwiwi means (I got lost but got the idea anyway). Cheers.

We rented the campervan for 37 days (end October - early December 2014).

When Anna handed over the camper, we got clear instructions and tips, very helpful. There's also a really handy book with instructions and tips for using the campervan, so you can read it all back later.

The campervan itself was very nice. Niall added some nice enhancements himself, like the cup holder en de USB chargers. We were also very happy with the included roadmap, not only useful for finding your way, but for finding campgrounds and sights as well. The diary which came along with the camper - with all the tips from all the people who have been using the van - was great, we used it a lot to find the best stuff to do.

Anna en Niall are great, fun and friendly people! Their service is great and very personal. We wanted to start in Auckland, which wasn't a problem, and after returning the van in Raglan Niall drove us to the airport again.

If we should go to New Zealand again, we definitely get a campervan with Piwiwiwi again. It's an awesome company, and you get great value for your money. Highly recommended!

We explored the whole of NZ - an unique experience & just awesome! This was in many situations thanks to the great campervan we were travelling in.
We first rent it for 37 days, but we just couldn´t leave "our" van :) so we ended up renting it for 40 days. During that time we didn´t experience any problems.
Facts:
40 days (Sept./Oct./Nov.)
6090 km, ~ 700 km gravel roads - we recommend the full insurance if you travel that long & if you plan to go on unsealed roads. It's good to know you can go without any worries about extra costs if the window gets stone-chipped. The GPS included was very useful.
Average fuel consumption at 90 km/h = ~10l Regular, if you cruise around 70-80 km/h you can go under 9I ;)
Time lost because of technical issues: 0 days :)
The car was reliable & had very good tyres. Driving was fun even on steep gravel roads & when raining/snowing.
Anna & Niall equipped the van with everything needed for a comfortable time. We didn´t miss anything & at the same time, the limited room was very well used. You could feel the campervan was equipped by someone who had experience living in it :). It was a very comforting feeling to have different emergency phone numbers in the rare case we did have any questions.
We had been thinking about renting a smaller car. But especially as we were travelling in September/October we were really happy that we had decided to take a bigger van - it´s really worth to be able to cook inside and standing up rather than outside in the cold or rain! We had a nice fridge, big enough for a few days fresh food so we could save money and were more independant. Plus, there was lots of spare room - we didn´t have surfboards, but had no problem to put our tent, hiking gear and lots of other stuff away! Thanks to a port-a-potty (small camping toilet) and a greywater tank the van is certified as self-contained - this means we were allowed to stay in the designated freedom campsites (which most of the time have toilets ;) ).

Small company with very personalized service. Anna was incredibly flexible with our schedule for airport transfers, and was a wealth of information for planning out our itinerary. Driving around the country for a few weeks and seeing the quality of other vans at this size, there is no doubt that Piwiwi vans represent the best of whats on offer in New Zealand. I highly recommend renting the vans that fit into a standard parking space, as you get all the benefits of a fully equipped camper, without any of the hassle of trying to find extra wide parking spaces, etc. We recommend Piwiwiwi to any of our friends who are thinking of visiting New Zealand. Not just for surfers, but we both surf, and this thing was perfect. Great memories.

Our 1st Campervan experience was with Piwi and we could not have been happier. The only sad part was leaving our Piwi Camper !! Neil and Anna's customer service and our Van were above our expectations. They were very friendly and warm and communicated clearly. They gave us lots of little extras in our Van which you would pay extra for with other companies. They have also thought of alot of extra gadgets to make your trip easier like reusable coffee cups, ipod connection and cables, upgraded speaker system, solar panel on one of their campers roofs, phone charger in the back oh and surf board straps on the inside of the roof!!! They even gave us a free transfer to Aukland airport as we had hired the Van for almost 2 wks. Raglan is a beautiful bohemian town that has great surf and is so worth a visit and it is so nice not to be treated as a number. They even welcomed any phone calls during our trip to ask questions or have a chat ! We thoroughly recommend Piwi l We were on a tight budget with our holiday and we were looking at cheaper options but I am so glad we went with Piwi which are competitively priced anyway, as they helped to make our holiday a great experience and added alot of little extras and even pulled a map out with us on the day and gave us tips and advise and travel books to borrow like lonely planet and surfing atlas. This was value for money by the time you weigh everything up. Neil and Anna are environmentally conscious and had such a lovely vibe, even over email from the get go ! We will definatley hire from them again and thoroughly recommend you to also !

They were so helpful, kind and accommodating, meeting us from the airport then driving us to Raglan, giving time to relax and enjoy the sights of NZ. After tea, we were introduced to our lovely van, which was fully equipped and very comfortable; with great attention paid to every small detail. We really appreciated the quality of crockery/cutlery/ bedding etc and loved the stereo. On our return they were also really helpful and flexible in the pick-up time and place. I was there for job and had the opportunity to stay 1 week more. So I stayed longer and get in touch with Piwiwiwi. They arranged my pick-up in Hamilton and we got to Raglan together. In a matter of an hour, I was in the Nissan campervan, well accomodated, ready to leave. The bus is very well equipped and easy to drive. You can not only sleep in the bus, but also play card and cook in the same time by a rainy day as there is a lot of place compare to others campervans I've rent. They were professional and very kind in the same time, they even feed me the first day I arrived (for free) :) I would recommand it to everyone that would enjoy NZ and be free to go wherever they want, when they want. I didn't want to rate it 10 at first because it's not my habit but afterwards...I found nothing that could make me rate it lower.

So glad we rented with Piwiwiwi, The only problem we had with the campervan is that we didn't want to give it back! The van had everything we needed in it to cook pretty much anything we wanted. It was far easier to drive than you might think and the bed was very comfortable. It was really nice to have the central heating and a space to stow the surfboards out of the way. Niall is a great guy, and a great host, he did a ggood job explaining the ins and outs of the van. If anything was forgotten there was an easy to use guide. By the end of the first day driving, I felt comfortable on curvy NZ mountain roads. I can't think of a better way to see NZ than with a campervan and I doubt there is a better option out there than Piwiwiwi.

Have a great trip!

My wife and I did a surf honeymoon tour around NZ and rented from Anna and Niall at Piwiwiwi. They were amazing. After tons of research we decided to go with PW due to the reviews, reputation, and the fact that we wanted to support a small local business vs. the big rental agencies. We were so happy with them and the basejumper. The van was fully equipped with everything you would need, right down to the cheese grater and surf guidebook. It was amazing having room to stand and move around in the basejumper and have the freedom to use the bathroom whenever. Hot showers after a surf! Talk about good living. The back doors open right up and you can roll up to amazing views and watch the waves peel down the point as you sip some fresh Sauvignon Blanc. The basejumper was really good on diesel as well. For those of you from the US, I calculated it to get 22-25 niles per gallon.
We had a small problem with the plumbing and Piwiwiwi fixed it immediately. Even let us use their own car to zip around Raglan while they were addressing it. Really great people providing top service. They even flew down to Christchurch together to drive the van back to Raglan for us. As avid travelers/surfers spending many months of their lives in a campervan, they have really figured out what you need for a great Holiday in NZ. Highly recommend them!!

Piwiwiwi, Great people, great company! I searched and researched and looked into about every campervan rental company in NZ. I finally found a company I was interested in doing business with, for me and my son it was worth paying a little more for such great service. From talking with Anna via e-mail to finally reaching my departure date to NZ it was smooth sailing. It was well worth the price for pick-up for me, we had a great talk on the way to Raglan and even took me on some beautiful back roads and pointed out a few sites and things to check out. Arrived to Piwiwiwi headquarters and met Anna. She had made some fantastic tea and we got right down to the insurance details etc... Then it was time for the campervan tour, she explained all there was to know and operate the van. Niall even helped me unpack my surfboards and showed me how to store the boards in the van, we had 5 surfboards inside the van! Amazing how Piwiwiwi engineered the surf racks inside the van, great job Niall! The little Piwiwiwi Campervan that could, she worked great for our needs, everything worked great! I loved that the van was a manual, saves petrol and I feel more in control, also their rigs are self contained, so camping is aok just about anywhere, we found some fantastic freecamping! Oh yeah, we scored and surfed some magical surf spots and saw some amazing scenery! I believe we drove over 3000 k and the van performed flawlessly. The 25 nights went by so fast as all holidays do and before we knew it we were on the way back to the Auckland Airport with Niall doing the transfer/driving. I would recommend using Piwiwiwi and working with Anna & Niall, they made the experience that much better! The Piwiwiwi experience, I don't think you can go wrong hiring a campervan, car, or a new electric bicycle they have! Check them out!

From the first contact with Piwiwiwi via email with Anna and being met at the airport by Niall to turning in the keys to the campervan, Piwiwiwi made every effort to ensure a great experience for us. Niall gave us a very thorough "tour" of the van and its nifty systems; the manual helped us when memory didn't serve; and our SELF-CONTAINED Base Jumper van was completely and thoughtfully equipped. As 60+ year olds still surfing and cycling, we appreciated the extremely comfortable bed and bedding; and as a cook, I loved the high level of tools provided, especially the espresso maker(--I bought the same one when I came home!)
As another rater mentioned, all of the books that helped us chase surf and plan our tour were provided by Anna and Niall, who were also very available to us when a need came up en route. There was lots of space for storage and outdoor equipment for grilling and "chilling".Finally, while the Base Jumper wasn't cheap, its status as SELF-CONTAINED allowed us to freedom camp, which was well worth the extra money.

When Anna delivered the Hi-Ace in Christchurch she carefully explained how everything worked with the campervan and gave some great tips about camping in New Zealand. We felt immidiatly welcome in NZ and in our van. The van has a perfect size. Not to big, but large enough to stand and cook or get clothed. Next to that it has just some extra space for acces/storage for clothes. The manual for troubleshooting and how to use the campervan was handy, clear and funny ;). After delivering the van back in Raglan Neill drove us to the airport and again the contact was warm and personal. If we needed to rent a van again, we wouldn’t hesitate to contact them again.

Why did we choose PiwiWiwi Camper vans?
We are no surfers, but PiwiWiwi were the cheapest and we had a very good feeling straight in the beginning when contacting them the first time over the phone! Naill and Anna are honest and super nice folks who are totally dedicated to their little rental company. You will feel it when you take the van on a trip– the equipment is great, functional and they thought of little details that don’t come with vans from the major brands like a decent sound system or a solar shower to mention just 2 of the little things that made our trip even sweeter!
We rented the camper van „Jimmy“ for 17 days and did 3,500 km in it. We drove from Raglan to Queenstown and never had a technical problem.
This year, the NZ summer was rather wet and colder than usual, but our van was our cozy home for over 2 weeks and we loved every minute in it. The whole package was fabulous -we had a wicked time!

We chose a small rental company, because we have had bad experiences with big companies. We have made the right choice. Anna and Niall gave us a great service; car drop-off at the hotel, let us leave the stuff that would get in the way, and drop us off at the airport.

The campervan is very complete. All the stuff you need is onboard. A water tank, stove and oven is all on board.

We had just one minor problem with air conditioning that was fixed in a minute. Piwiwiwi immediately offered us compensation without asking for it.

Next time we go to New Zealand, we will probably choose Piwiwiwi again.

I just returned from a 3 month trip through both the North and South Islands with my girlfriend, 63 days of the trip were spent in a Piwiwiwi Campervan. I'm happy to say the experiences we had would not have been the same without the support and unmatched customer service of Anna and Niall. From the first inquiry call with them, to the flexibility and support they provided us with when we had to adjust our dates due to a family emergency, and finally to the trip itself, Anna and Niall were there for us every step of the way and were truly a pleasure to work with.

The van had been recently serviced and we did not experience any issues at all throughout the duration of our drive. We drove the van everyday and were extremely pleased with the flexibility it gave us to move and camp at our own leisure. On top of that the van was perfectly set up to charge our electronics and play our music off our MP3 players with the help of the upgraded stereo.

We chose Piwiwiwi because we felt that they were reasonably priced, and as a younger adventurous couple, we believed in the vision that Anna and Niall have for their company. Their relatively smaller (by quantity) fleet allows them to provide unbelievable customer service as well as unique experiences and advice catered to their clients. It was a privilege working with them, and if you have the opportunity to visit them in Raglan and rent a van you won't be disappointed. Just be careful, because once you get to Raglan you may not want to leave!

We had a fabulous completely carefree and comfortable trip and we have PiwiWiwi to thank for it! Our van was super functional and comfortable and the boudoir had heaps of clean comfy bedding which was just awesome to pile into after a days adventures.

The vans exceeded our expectations with heaps of space to take all our kite and surfing gear, with ample space left over - even though we started the trip with 3 boards and ended with 6! ;)

But the best part of the service was how easily it all came together, with minimum planning we were sent off on our adventure with a smile and a pile of surfing magazines to get us hyped. Pickup the night before so you can leave early? No problem! Drop off the morning after so you can arrive home late? Sweet as! Try getting that sort of service elsewhere!

Such a good experience that we now plan our holidays around where we can take a piwiwiwi van!

Home for about a month now and still dreaming about our trip! The van made our trip extra special with no destination in mind we experienced so much more of NZ. Every time we made a wrong turn we had our best adventures. Piwi wiwi made everything easy and the van was very comfortable and drove excellent. My only comment about our experience is there really is no free camping in coastal towns be prepared to drive out of those towns to find better camp grounds we found some great family run campgrounds, the campgrounds in town were not what we wanted our NZ adventure to be. Thanks again piwi wiwi for all your help in making our trip one of our best!

We were picked up at the airport right on time. The paperwork was easy and quick both pick up and drop off. The car was clean and well maintained. The owners continued to answer any and all questions we had about the area, traveling and getting things done. They are very nice, flexible with travel arrangements and easy to communicate with. PiwiWiwi makes your NZ experience truly amazing! Renting a car/van/board/etc from Anna and Niall is the best thing you can do. Don't worry about getting to Raglan! You have to see this beautiful surf town anyway - so why not start your NZ trip here?
I asked them for a specific board and since they didn't have it, they organised two different ones for me to chose from. If you need tips or advices, just ask them. The cars and vans are in great condition and the prices are low - great value! Thank you Anna and Niall :)

From the first email we sent them with all our questions Niall and Anna really took the time to explain us everything with the insurance, how the van is working and so on. We highly recommend PiwiWiwi. And a big THANK YOU for picking up the towels we forgot in the hostel :-) Niall and Anna really go the extra mile to ensure their customers have a great time.

Piwiwiwi was recommended to me by a friend who's living in Raglan, and i was not disappointed at all! Niall and Anna are providing you with a serious and very well equipped vehicle. I rent a car for 5 weeks for me and my family visiting, and as we had to much stuff they bought a roofbox especially for us, bringing it to us 300km from their home, just to make sure that our trip will be good... And it was awesome! They expect you to spend a good time in new zealand and do the most they can to help you achieve this goal. And they even give you a ride back to the place you want to get to when you give back the car. Sincerely you can trust these guys, I'm very thanksfull to them. We had a fantastic 70-day adventure exploring NZ's coasts, mountains, and spectacular geography. Renting a van from PiwiWiwi was one of the best decisions we made. Initially we planned on buying a van and selling it when leaving, but after hearing horror stories, we decided to rent, and couldn't have found a better company.

Niall and Anna were sincerely interested in us having a good time. Niall even sent me a couple of surf forecast updates knowing that I got skunked on waves earlier in the trip. You're not going to get that service from any other rental company. The vans are thoughtfully dialed-in with everything you could need.

We recommend PiwiWiwi without reservation and only wish that all business interactions could be so pleasant. 11 out of 10 - Paul + Alex

Our plan was to kayak as much as we could in 20 days. I had brought with me my Firstlight Seakayak and my friend had rented a Firstlight. PiwiWiwi was kind enough to install a kayak rack on the Basejumper 2 to accommodate us. We found Niall and Anna (owners of PiwiWiwi) were very gracious, informative and patient. We are two students from Sweden and we looked and looked for a company that was reliable and affordable and most important hassel free.
As we scanned rankers and various sites it became obvious that hiring a camper for a resonable price and no hassels (hidden fees etc) was harder than expected. "We've read quite the bit of horror stories"

We finally took the advise from the reviewes on rankers and rented a campervan from piwiwiwi, the mail contact was superb, explaining everything and answering our questions and giving us advise.

Got picked up from the airport by the happy Niall =)
At their house we got everthing explaind and a tour of the camper. You see they are a small company with only 7 or so campers so they take good care of them and their costumers.

And off we drove, for 70 days not a problem and we drove for 10000 km, had the time of our lives.
If you just dont want to worry about your holiday, rent from Piwiwiwi.

Hi! I rented a campervan from PiwiWiwi for a 21 day road trip with my new husband on our honeymoon! We found out about PiwiWiwi through a friend who lives in Raglan! After researching several different companies, it came down to more than just a great price, it was the one-on-one experience we got from people who love life, exploring, and enjoying every day like we do. Anna and Niall answered every question and helped us plan our trip. When we arrived, we received an amazing welcome which set the stage for a fantastic honeymoon.

We rented the standard size campervan and it was perfect! Even during the coldest nights, we were cozy and comfortable. The vans are not "just" for surfers. We travelled with our bikes and rented a bike rack from PiwiWiwi. They hooked us up with a mountain biking guide book for NZ and we made use of it everywhere we went. The vans have plenty of compartments to organize and stowe your gear so you are able to relax, drink a beer, and eat a great meal you just prepared without staring at your muddy bike shoes.

We highly recommend PiwiWiwi. You get personal assistance and support from the moment you first contact them. They want you to have the best trip ever and when you land in NZ, ready to start your adventure, they greet you with a huge hello like you're old friends and you can't help but being excited to get in the van, and start exploring!

Cheers!

As we were driving around NZ, we kept seeing other campervans pulled over in the rain trying to cook out the back, with surfboards stacked on the bed, laughing to ourselves that we were living in luxury and spending less money than they were. We drove the van all over both islands and it ran like a champ, bravely barreling down rutted dirt roads and through snowy mountain passes without a hitch. To top it off, Niall and Anna are awesome! My Girlfirend and I hired a PiwiWiwi Camper-van for a month to explore NZ and the customised van excelled in every way. The Van was very comfortable, reliable, clean and easy to live in. It was the little features that Niall and Anna have altered which set the vans apart. Things you would only notice once you have lived in a van for any length of time, but they make the biggest difference such as wet gear storage locker, internal board racks, a very user friendly kitchen and cupboard system which reduces clutter and makes life easy!

On the business side of things, as companies go they have to be one of the most professional and efficient, but while keeping the special small business personality and flexibility making them the best I've ever dealt with. Niall and Anna both went out of their way while handling our booking to make sure our trip would be the best it could be and took personal interest and care throughout the entire process.

We had an amazing time, scored amazing waves and made some outstanding friends and cant wait to come back! This all sounds too good to be true but It really is, I cant recommend this fantastic environmental concious company enough.

Working with Anna and Naill was easy, informative, and custom. They provided us with services that no other company would offer a first time campervan renter. They were quick to respond to every email and were there for us all along the way. The van was fully equiped with new, full functioning ammenities. All we had to do was show up. If you need anything imperticular...just ask. They are based in Raglan which is worth more than a day to stay over. The van gave us opportunities that we could have never imagined possible via naked bus and hostel shuffle. Email Anna, and tell her tomato Jennie sent you. After I booked my ticket to NZ I had to figure out everything else from there…..rent a car, stay in Hotels / Hostels etc. After some checking around, it seemed a campervan was my best option because of the flexibility and ultimately the cost too. I was almost ready to book with a faceless company and hope all would work out. By luck, when checking out NZ surf stuff on Surfline, I saw PiwiWiwi’s advertisement and visited the website. The vibe was so different than all the others and really spoke to me. I emailed several questions and responses were always prompt and written as though I had a friend there vs. a vendor looking for my business. They even hooked me up with a great mountain bike which was a HUGE addition to my trip. I had a little challenge along the way, and they were super responsive in getting it taken care of…which is really the ultimate measure of a good company to work with because things are not always perfect.

As a surfer…..there are the obvious advantages of this vehicle but possibly the biggest advantage to me (someone who drives on the LEFT side of the road) was starting out in Raglan. Trust me, after a LONG flight you don’t want to try to learn this on the city streets of Auckland. As a surfer, you gotta check out Raglan for a few days anyway....so why not start there?

If you want to rent a campervan for your NZ adventure, definitely connect with PiwiWiwi and see what they can do for you….and have an incredible Journey!

I recently rented with PiwiWiwi for three weeks over the Christmas and New Year period. I got the recommendation from a friend who knew both Anna and Niall, and decided to give them a ring. Straight away I was impressed by a friendly welcoming attitude on the phone, as well as daily hire rates that were considerably cheaper than any other campervan hire company based in Auckland. When I arrived at the house in Raglan I was very impressed by the hospitality shown (cup of tea, biscuit etc!), which made a real impression, as it didn't feel as if they were trying to take your money and get rid of you in 5 minutes.

As for the van the guys have literally thought of everything to ensure you have all the comforts of home within reaching distance of your bed. Nothing had been left out, and there is even usb/mp3 sockets at convenient places around the interior for added home comforts. The van itself I found to be very economical, provided you stick within the speed limits! After the trip if you need to be in a certain place then the guys will happily drive you back up to Hamilton, making catching a train/bus/flight easy.

All in all the last 3 weeks have been a dream come true for me, and that in no small part is due to PiwiWiwi and their awsome vans, as well as friendliness. Anyone asking in the future about hiring a van will get one answer from me, PiwiWiwi! Thankyou for the experience and oppertunity guys!

What a great camper and what a hassle free way to have a great holiday!
This is the first time I've rented a camper and well if you consider that this was a birthday present to a none surfing girlfriend aside the fact I am now in proper brownie point credit, less I say more about how much we both enjoyed it?

The surf racks kept my babies safe but out of the way, usb ports kept all iPods and so forth running nicely, cooking was easy with plenty of storage and good kit plus we actually slept 9 hours every night, testament to a comfy bed!

Waking up to sunrises and surf in one of these babies is the business. Driving them to and between the spots for the best waves is easy, smooth and pretty cheap on fuel too.

The guys at piwiwiwi were great to deal with from start to finish and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone with an ounce of NZ surf wanderlust.

Myself and my boyfriend recently decided to have a spontaneous surf trip to Taranaki and wanted the comfort of knowing we had somewhere to sleep where the surf was pumping. We found an ad for Piwiwiwi on a surf website and were very impressed by the fact that they are set up to store surfboards inside. The custom made straps mean that you can keep several boards(even longboards)strapped to the inside roof and still have plenty of room for standing up/cooking/sleeping/sitting at the table. The van was perfect for Taranaki because you often find yourself spending heaps of time at remote surf locations and the van is completely self-sufficient so it's easy to spend a night away from a campsite. The van ran like a dream and has plenty of grunt, we especially liked the folding table which turns into a double-bed. The guys at Piwiwiwi were super helpful and friendly but also professional. There are lots of extras that come with the van including a surfing guide to NZ book, chairs and heaps of accessories. I would have no problems recommending Piwiwiwi to anyone who likes a smaller company with a personal touch.

I’ve just returned from a month’s road trip cruising New Zealand in a Piwiwiwi campervan. I decided to use Piwiwiwi as they were always prompt responding to emails and calls, and as a smaller company I felt I was getting a more personal service. The vans were also equipped with everything I could possible want, kitchen stuff, camping chairs, Sat Nav and USB connectors so that I could keep my phone/mp3, etc charged. When I collected the van, Niall and Anna were welcoming and gave me a detailed guide of the van, so I felt at ease driving it around. They clearly love NZ and gave great tips of places to visit.

The van was a breeze to drive, because it isn’t too wide you could easily park and manoeuvre around, which is great as some of the roads and bridges are extremely narrow. It also had plenty of power to get me up steep roads. The van is extremely spacious inside; you can stand up to make tea! It has plenty of storage space so your belongings aren’t on view inside. The bench seats and table lay flat to give you a double sized bed, with the curtains closed it felt private and secure.

I toured around and covered 3000km without any issues, I loved my van it felt like home and I was sad to leave it. As a single woman traveller I felt confident and Piwiwiwi exceeded all my expectations. Excellent!!
