The place is breathtaking! The crew fantastic and amazing, the facts that they shared are very informative. We love the tour overall.you have to be in warm jackets /attire if you wish to stay outaide to see the view. You can also bring your own lunch and snacks. They have some chocolates, drinks, cup noodles, muffins, chips etc for sale if needed. Drinks like coffee and tea are always available. In the big boat ,they have a machine with different types of coffee nd even chocolate drink and of course clean filtered water. My family and I all had fun! Shout out to the people with us who tolerated my kids, i found them were very well behaved during the cruise compared to experiences with other kids so apologies to the lady who wished that the kids could also shut down when we had the amazing five minutes of silence, as im pretty sure they were quiet and silent even in the bus.Aside from that we would surely come back again and would cross our fingers we wont encounter such comments from fellow passengers again.Just be wary if you have kids otherwise it was an awesome experience.

Beautiful part of NZ. Both bus drivers over the pass were great, and extra marks for Ian our bus driver from Te Anau as he returned my camera I left on the bus to our camp before we even noticed it was gone! Only downside was not enough seating inside the cabin on the at the Doubtful Sound end when the weather is poor.

Very Nice daytrip into the doubtfull sound. Good information during the bus rides and boattrip. The silence during that boattrip was amazzing. A must do during your travell. I say its better than the milfotd sound but then the drive up there is something you should do.

The experience of the cruise was extraordinary. We saw the wildlife trifecta -- penguins, seals and dolphins -- as well as a beautiful view of the sound from the Wilmot Pass overlook on the clear day. I did not enjoy the obligatory stop at the power station. Real Journeys should offer the Doubtful Sound cruise with the option to skip the stop at the power station. High cost for the cruise is worth every penny.

Pretty expensive but you get a lot for your money-Lake Manapouri, power station, Doubtful Sound, very touristy. Pack them in. I happened to be on a coach with screaming loud children/babies. This was not pleasant and children under a certain age should be banned from this once in a lifetime experience. What does a 6 week old get out of it anyway.

Real Journeys were very professional and organised throughout with everyone contributing to the experience - coach drivers, guides, etc. The boats were very impressive and the captain made sure we got close to seals, penguins, etc. The wildlife guide on board was really first class and really made the day identifying birds, animals and so on. The trip inside the mountain to look at the power station was interesting.

Was expensive, but was not an option to not see it. Boat was clean, guides were very helpful. I took my 8 year old son with me and he was treated as a true nature lover and not an annoying kid. We happened to get one of the best days weather wise, plenty of waterfalls, but lots of sun - didn't need our raincoats at all (but do pack them just in case!) hint: the bakery and other shops open early in TeAnau - ask them to make you a packed lunch the day before and pick it up before the tour leaves. This is a journey Real Journeys does well. A package tour here is ideal way to see Lake Manapouri, a quite astounding pass over to Doubtful sound, and on our day in September, an almost cloudless sky and calm waters of Doubtful Sound, with boat to view bottlenose dolphins (very large), great waterfalls, and out to the seals on the Tasman coast. The power plant is a "not to be missed" part, and even though a small portion of the excursion, a tribute to consensus and engineering for New Zealand.

A dream came true for me this month. After two previous trips (1977 and 1997) in rain and low cloud, this time the sun shone and I looked down from the top of the pass and saw Deep Cove. From there it just got better. The whole day was glorious and the place is magical. (Mind you, the second trip had its wonders as all the waterfalls were in full spate, which this time they weren't.) So do this trip in all weathers and you won't be disappointed.
I'm also impressed with the quality of Real Journey' service.

My husband and I were on our honeymoon and decided we wanted to go to Milford Sound. After doing this magnificent cruise we we're on the brink of doing it again the next day following the storm that had come through. Lucky for us we decided to do the Doubtful Sound cruise instead. This cruise exceeded our expectations; the waterfalls were amazing because of the recent rain. All the guides, from the bus driver to the captain, were extremely informative and entertaining. Although this was quite expensive and a long day from Manapouri it was worth every cent. We would not hesitate to do this again.

You often read about traveller's quandaries as to which to go for - Milford or Doubtful? Without a doubt - Doubtful is our first choice. It costs twice as much but by the time you hit the open sea, you feel that you have had your monies worth with the return leg still to look forward to. The quality of the trip, the co-ordination of the various sectors, the free refreshments, on-going commentary - the whole lot was absolutely brilliant and highly recommended.

Very expensive for very little wildlife "touring" and information. No info on birds, flowers, trees except the only "nature guide"! Rest of staff didn't bother really.

Well informed and entertaining comments. Loads of driving and 'getting there' involved. Price definitely justified but you'll get more for your money at Milford Sound!
