First free place I’ve stayed where the toilet isn’t filled with flys/ a porta potty.
Great views of the lake and sunset.
Good amount of spots
Lovely free campsite, nice spot and village, just over an hour from Auckland. Toilets are clean too.
Stayed here twice because it’s so good. Nice sheltered spot with clean toilets. Drive part the Miranda Hot Springs on the way out so you can stop off have a spa for $15 pp and a shower too!
Nice spot in front of the water. 6 or 7 campervans already here for the night when we came, even in winter ! A lot of spaces but half of the spot was not practicable because too muddy. However there is another free camping area 5 min further with a much better view without toilets.
Nice simple little spot with loads of spaces. Toilet was nice and clean. Be careful of the mud when wet... nearly got stuck!
We intented to stay at this free camping place but we find one one the sea shore 5steps from the water. It was a great experience to wake up and see the sun rising from the sea! We like it!!!

far away from the highway but a very nice place. a lot of space for tents and vans.
Quiet place, lots of space. Even for tents. Good toilets. And it's 4 free!
Fine place to stay but there is a one night limit

Just as described, lovely view, toilets were clean, right next to the road. Thanks to the boat club. Can only recommend the fish & chips across the street!
Nice place to stay the night! Got there late but was not a problem. Totally fine toilets, a little shitty but not so. Would recommend if you're not SC.
Great place to start your road trip in New Zealand. We spent our first night here and we really liked the sound and smell of the sea! Plenty of space and toilet and water supply. Recommended!

Great place to stay for a night. Thanks to the boat club. Beware of the grassed area along the beach road if you have a dog as we went in October and there were Burr's in the grass that hurt big and small dogs feet and get stuck between pads and in fur. Everyone was super friendly.

Free, worth every cent. Block toilets, no soap. Crowded even in winter. Right on the stoney beach, fantastic tide shift.
No complaints! Great for 1 night before the expenses of Coromandel. Cheers to the boat club
Good spot for a night or 2. Toilets were clean. Lovely views to enjoy.
Great space by the water. Toilets were okay, no shower. It was very cold and windy, especially in May. Like other said before, you can hear a lot of people in the morning at the docks. Lots of space to park, by the grass and trees or on the gravel.
A nice little camping spot between Auckland and Coromandel. Basic toilets. Good for one night.
Nicely located campsite at the beach. Basic toilet facilities. Dig for mussels or dine with fresh fish and chips next door.
A lot of space. Public toilet. Perfect for staying one night.
Thanks Kaiaua Boat Club! Perfect spot, right next to the water.
A good stopping point for us between Northland and Coromandel. The view over the Firth of Thames is stunning and the area was quiet and contemplative. What more can you ask for of a free site? Thanks to the boat club for making this available.
Free campground close to a beach. Nice grass area, clean. Toilets and water supply.
Perfect spot to camp for free just an hour away from Auckland. Lots of space to park up, there are toilets they are basic and suitable for what is required. Nice and quiet and beautiful to wake up to in the morning!
Right on scenic highway (not main highway) from Auckland to Corommandel. Fairly unkept toilets, but there is toilets with sinks and water, small basic open grassy area with nothing too special. Though the sunrise across the bay is nice. Hate to admit that I fell for the fish n chips across the way after being too cheap to pay for a campground, but a hard day and wanting to try authentic NZ fish n chips was too much. Incredible fish n chips! If you only get them once, get them from this place!
Hypse of rain when beeing there so can't be very objective but the place was glaucous, along the road. Just a kind of parking at the entrance of the village, with toilets.
Free location :)
Great free spot with toilets and award winning fish and chips (very tasty) great views too.
We stayed here for 1 night on the drive down.
+ Free....what's not to like about that price,
+ Toilets open all night and are flush toilets,
+ Fantastic views over the water to the Coromandels,
+ 30 sec walk to fantastic fish and chips,
+ Very large area,
+ Feels safe and comfortable.
Nice place to stop if driving through.

Great *free* place to stay for vehicles - especially if you're not self-contained. Close to a delicious fish and chips shop and a short drive from the Miranda Bird Sanctuary. Nice site right on the ocean. There wasn't a big sign, so keep your eyes out for it.
Limited facilities (just toilets) but they were clean. Plenty of space to park your vehicle, and there were trees and picnic tables around the site. Not too busy.
Thanks Boat Club!
Nice spot to freecamp, just off the main road with a playground, public toilets (which aren't very nice) but it was next to the lake so nice location.
Fabulous spot where you can watch the boating activities and relax. Caught a glorious sunrise over the water. Really handy to the best fish and chips too, one of those rare places that uses fresh as fish and real fat to fry in, not rancid oil! Also handy in this little seaside town is a dairy and playground. What a privelege to be able to stay at this spot, thanks boat club!
