Great free camping spot
Stayed here on a Saturday night late November 2020, arrived at around 10.45PM and only two other campers so lots of parking space. ( Park diagonally facing tpwards rugby pitch) also area for tents.
Toilets nice and clean and it has and outdoor tap / sink for washing dishes, lots of green areas to set up picnics, tents etc. Lots of bins provided and parking spaces for campers and rugby and squash club. Remember to donate your $5 as this is funded by donations and locals.
Forsquare is a 10 minute walk away and is open till 8pm, also in the village several nights of the week is a Thai food van which has great food. There is also a pool located locally that you can pay to use.
Enjoy

Many thanks to the county for this great place. Water and dumping facilities are available, also a big area for tents. Very silent during the night, we felt safe because of a light all night long (not disturbing us to sleep). Of course we gave a donation of $5.

Great last campground of the trip as there was potable water and a dump site right there. Large, clean bathrooms and an outside sink for washing dishes. It was pretty packed my night so it was evident where to park, but it’s pretty much up against the side of the parking lot with the stands for the rugby pitch behind you. A few tents set up on the opposite end of the campers. Some other reviews talk about power hook-ups, they might be referencing running an electric cord to the electrical boxes at the base of the light poles, but I wouldn’t be comfortable doing that. $5 donation asked for and was a perfect place to dump all my New Zealand coins at the end of the trip.

LOST SHOES!
Stayed here on Saturday night and lost a pair of green/brown trail running shoes. If you find them please call me. 0225447424
The site is nice enough, very clean toilets.
I got confirmation from the council that the water from the washing up sink tap is drinking water but the others aren’t.

Bitumen car park next to rugby field. Lots and lots of space for campervans. Very clean toilet block with running water, toilet paper and hand dryer. Lights on at night! Trashcans available.
Not the most beautiful spot we've freecamped but a very good and accessible spot nonetheless. Kuddo's to the council and volunteers involved.
PS. Free power as mentioned below did not work 😜

화장실과 오수처리 시설이 매우 좋다.
마을 운동장에 위치한 주차장으로 화장실과 오수처리 시설이 좋다.

Excellent site. Very quiet. Only a few minutes walk to shops and four square supermarket. Water available, dump station, toilets (ok we preferred to use own in campervan, but ok if you need them) Floodlit most of the night. All this for free, just give a donation of 5NZD. We had spent the previous night at a Top 10 park, which was expensive and we preferred this.

This was the first free campsite we stayed in and we were so happy with it! The toilets are clean, there is a washing up station and the site isn’t too cramped. Overall a great place to spend the night! Also it’s in a perfect location if you’re travelling along the west coast from Auckland -> South as it’s 3 minutes off the motorway.

The best Freedom Camping site as there was power! Only required a donation of $5 per site. Clean toilets, washing up space and power. An absolute bargain. The only free site we have come across with power in north and south island. If you want to see what it looks like, you can watch our video review on youtube, just search the camp site name and 'The Flip Flop Family'

PROS
+ loads of spaces (we were about 30 and it wasn't even half full)
+ lots of garbage bins
+ clean bathrooms
+ drinkable water
+ easy accessCONS
- not a lot of privacy since it's a parking lot (we didn't mind it, people were respectful)
- no showersTIPS
* It's located up the hill, if you get there and it's dark, it isn't in from of the first empty field you are going to find, it is up the hill to the right.

Great large car park with clean toilets a dog park and nice town within walking distance. Large vehicle access, dump station and playground for kids in town. Donation box at entrance so worth putting a few dollars in if you can to support the locals who keep the place clean.

Winter review: We stayed here by chance as the foggy weather made it impossible to drive further. A bit hard to find but it's exactly as described- an area to park for the night with flushing toilets. Was a bit strange in the morning when we were woken by a rugby match happening outside - the locals thought it strange we were there too. Overall - good for a pit stop, but definitely not somewhere to seek out.

Loved the site, we stayed for two nights as it's easy to find. There are clean toilets with sinks, soap and toilet paper, an outside tap with drinkable water l. It's basically just a large field of grass but spacious enough to park where you want.
