Terrific experience - we arrived at night and we got stuck in the sand, in the same time few cars came to a caravan where a young women was waiting ... We went back as soon as possible
Great spot for self contained vehicles only. If you aren't self contained, stay at a motorcamp up the road. Very simple.
Free campsite, no facilities but beautiful at the sea.

Free campsite for autonomous motorhome, site really dubious with cars that drive back and forth and stay parked a moment with young women..... site on gravel, nothing particular except the proximity of the ocean is suitable because free, but we stayed well locked up in the motorhome.
Very quiet and safe place! Beautiful view as well. It just has no toilet, but still all good to stay for one night!
Perfect free camping site right on the beach front. Beautiful walks, I imagine it could be very exposed in poor weather. Perfect good weather free campsite!

Great beach location, can be very exposed to bad weather so pick your days. On a nice day you couldn't ask for better, right on the beach views of Kapiti coast and Kapiti Island. Bring fishing gear, good snapper for the surf caster and in season white baiting at the river. Is a stony beach but at low tide it is great for walks on the low tide sand. Really easy to find, just turn left when you reach the beach road and keep going when you get to the end of the road, the gravel starts and you can drive all the way to the river mouth. Pick your spot as you go. Don't back up too far in the gravel or you might get stuck like me trying to get to close to the sea front.
Great campsite. Pay careful attention to the tides though. Had to move the tent from campervan area due to a high tide. Amazing spot to watch the sunset.
Awesome place to stay ON the beach! Hundreds of metres of space to stay over night right on the Ocean! Fishing allowed and you can ask for making a fire! Great!
Great place to camp for free. Lots of space. Great sunsets. No facilities.
Fantastic spot! If you're looking for a well equipped/Top 10 style campsite, this isn't it, but as a previous reviewer has said - camping on the beach? Priceless!
Just drive straight down to end of marine parade, down a wee lane, there is a sign saying no camping but drive past and go onto the pebble beach and ya can park up there. Perfect spot for the night, no toilet but 2 mins other end of marine parade there are but no camping beside that. Beach is beautiful as well as surroundings, quiet and worth going of the road for it!
Bare, barren stony beach but reasonably isolated. Plenty of space for many campervans - we were 150m from the nearest van. Slightly tricky to find as initially an old sign indicates no camping, but go past this onto the beach and a new sign indicates self contained campervans are welcome
Personal favourite. Free site on rocky beach. No facilities, but the fact that you park your camper on the beach is priceless.
Awesome camp site right there where the Tasman Sea meets with the New Zealand west coast. A wonderful experience to be able to camp at no cost within a stone's lob (not even a stone's throw away) of the ocean. I recommend this site unreservedly!
More secluded than the Tasman Road free camp, but also more exposed. The camping area is right down a rought track, just off the beach in sandy/muddy scrubland amongst lots of driftwood. No facilities, but plenty of space. Quite a long way from the nearest shop.
