4 spots spread around the carpark. Was very busy with cars. There was an ice skating rink set up playing music until 10pm with lots of people coming and going to it, so we ended up leaving and going somewhere else

Big park with designated freecamping spots scattered across. Might be hard to find in the dark - look for the green marking on the road. During the day real friendly park surroundings, not so great at night with cars street racing and blasting music. Toilets are basic but okay, close at night. Drinking fountain available in the park. Would not stay again.

Good spot near the town center, it is quite busy at night though, with lots of locals hanging around. They were nice and it felt safe.

Location was ideal, takes 15 mins or so to walk into the centre of town. Nice environment to be in, lovely park with good views. However the toilets shut at night around 8 we think. Various camper spots over the park 🤙🏽
Each camping location is approved by a regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.

18Sept18. Went there before, in 2014. Designated spaces now. Not sure if the one we used was meant to be for 1 or 2 campers. The spaces seem small and we noticed another camper the same as ours effectively took 2 spaces. Loos were ok and it was free!

Easy to find, very good facilities which are closed in the night. Directly at the water but very rare parking spaces for campers.

Lovely quiet spot in a large park area near the water. Only saw one other campervan (mid January), be sure to check the signs for designated spots. There were a few cars/people around late in the evening but it was little bother to us. Toilets closed from 9pm however, we left at 5:30am in the morning and found them open at that time.

Beautiful spot with excellent facilities but BEWARE the specific freedom camping parks are NOT clearly marked like in other places. Check the sign next to the tsunami warning signs. It has a small photo showing designated parks.

This location was nice and quiet at the edge of the park and water, away from the traffic. The toilets are open until 9pm.

Fantastic view, clearly sign-posted with map of 3 overnight areas. Public toilets outside rowing club building.

What a spot. Definitely worth a night here, beautiful views over the water and toilets on site which were good considering they were just public toilets. Great for an afternoon beer.

05May14, 1 night, free, 2 of us (50's).
A lovely park with lots of features. Have not seen pay as you go BBQs outside NZ.
Public loo nearby.
Not sure where the campervan spots are meant to be. We were the 3rd van there (max 3 here?) but there were more in the morning.
A bit noisy at night. I suspect local young lads with big engined cars. Boys will be boys.
A good stop over point.
