We arrived late so couldn’t see much, but when the sun rose over the water the next morning it was lovely to wake up to a beautiful spot.
Enough room for a few campers, overall lovely spot.
Great view of the sea. Nice spot, as mentioned b4, bit of a walk to the toilet. Can get very packed here. A little bit to far from amenities and shops for me!
Stunning views from what is essentially a carpark on the cliff top for about 10 vehicles. We took a wrong turn and had to back track but found it in the end. There were 3 spots left when we arrived at about 7pm and the other 2 spots were taken soon after we arrived. The toilet was a short walk away at the local sports grounds club rooms. They were clean. We preferred this area to the other one provided down by the port as this was just out of town and the views are amazing.

Nice, quiet spot. Towing a caravan, had to reverse 200m up to top parking area as there wasn’t much room to turn around.
Nice place. Asphalt parking lot for about 10 vehicles, all with sea view. Large grass space in front to relax, and there is an outdoor bbq available. Couldn't find the toilets other reviews speak of though...
Lots of locals come by in their car to sit in the car and fiddle on their phones for some time (good reception there maybe?),
30Oct18. Previous reviews give all the directions you need. A good spot looking out over the sea. Sunrise and seal in the morning.
Toilets close by and not such a long way to a fish and chip shop in King Street.
Arrived after a wet drive the rain kept on. Directions ok overlooking the sea but toilets a good walk especially in the wet, a true fre camping experience. After a wet night woke up to sun and 9 other campers in the park and a good view out over the sea.

Not difficult to find, but unmarked as free camping. We drove up to the Patiti Point Reserve; just keep going up road, past beach, to dead-end parking lot. You will be up from the ocean, but the view is beautiful. We parked at the very end against the bushes for some privacy, windy but lovely. There is a walking/biking trail close but non intrusive. Public bathroom; follow trail at dead-end of parking lot to a road, turn right up the road to a big soccer field on your left, bathrooms are through gate for field. It’s a 4 minute walk from car park. This site was quiet, no bugs, campers were spread out and all self-contained, yay freedom campers! Happy Camping 🌿
Exactly as described. A little hard to find at the last point. Previous directions are good, but after going under track bridge and turning left, take next ‘right’ down to beach, stay right and go up the hill to parking lot. And to find toilets follow signs down to road (south) and then turn right to go up the road to the football pitch area. They are in parking lot. A little bit of a walk. A few locals drop buy for a walk or to hang out. Overall a nice little spot.
Nice spot at the beach, very quiet. Toilet available but a 400m to walk. Easily accessible also for bigger vans, space for 5-10 campervans. Barbecue place available but you need to bring wood.
Go up the hill to Patiti Point Reserve. Fantastic view over the ocean, but only around 8 places.
Public barbecue area nearby, so may be noisy on weekends. Public toilets 5 minutes walk away.
Absolutely nothing else around you to get food or drinks. The harbour area looks a bit scary for a walk at night.
Fairly easy to find. Fall asleep to the sounds on the ocean. Right on the beach couldn't have asked for a nicer spot to wake up at. I found the views very pretty. Wasn't any noise from the harbour we came in may and although winding not too cold.
The view isn't the most beautiful but we can't be nearer of the shore 😊 windy. We missed some orientation informations to find the spot on the last km. We slept well.
We are self-contained.
Go up on the road marked Patiki Point Reserve to the car park overlooking the ocean. Great spot but not many places.
Lovely spot, beautiful walks nearby and view of the coast, no toilets.
Superb view of the ocean, nice BBQ unit, toilets nearby in the football stadium.
If you are self contained, this spot it just lovely. A small car park overlooking the Pacific, south of Timaru. Clean and quiet, potentially windy. No facilities at all, but a short drive to full facilities at the freedom camping spot east of Catherine's Bay.
Good spot, no toilets but bin and space provided. Right on the beach. There is a drain but clean enough.

We weren't sure if we were allowed to stay here (since we weren't fully self-contained). In the end we found out that we weren't.. It's a simple car park with an outlook on the rough sea. Great spot but sadly only for FULLY self-contained.
