Nice campground, no powered sites yet. Nice cafe with friendly staff.
Downside: directly next to railway and highway. Very noisy.

Awesome spot right by the sea, amazing stars at night and sunrise in the morning. Plenty of room to find your own bit of space, think there were six vans in total. Bit of noise from passing traffic and train but nothing to spoil the setting.
No facilities, but that means it's not inundated with pretend-self-contained MPVs so this is a positive!
Probably our favourite spot in NZ so far.
Pay 10 dollars at The Store.
This place is just what we had hoped for. The Campervan is almost parked IN the ocean and there are almost no one here. We love it - and It's cheap!
A guy camping some distance away have decided to break the rules of NO OPEN FIRE, and we find toilet paper around every tree....
Some people should simply not be allowed to camp outdoor and ruin it for so many other "good ones".
This will however NEVER effect our ratings in here, since this is not the campsites fault!! This is a gooood spot!!!
Great place to camp in self contained vehicle! Turn off at The Store and take the left gravel road to head out to a number of private and more sheltered sites, road goes on for quite a while with a number of excellent beachfront spots with a lot of privacy. Beautiful sunrise in the morning! Gate was open when we went through but it does appear they are developing it into more of a campsite on their website, would be awesome if they got basic toilets but overall a fantastic secluded spot. Cafe/restaurant is great too, picked up some pastries and coffee on the way out and the lunch/full breakfast menu also looked great if you wanted to sit and enjoy the scenery a bit longer :-) bathroom at the store as well.
A free camping spot? We couldn’t see any signage to direct us to the site or anywhere / anyone to pay, even in the morning. Another van was parked in the fenced area when we arrived, so we parked up near that. Take the left turn off the highway and take the gravel hill to the left not right, keeping tight to the highway bridge. No facilities as mentioned, though the store cafe does a great coffee and breakfast and you can use the toilet if you buy from them. Nice walk onto the beach and good ocean views. Overall slightly strange as we never knew if we were in the right place but did the job and nobody bothered us!
Beautiful beachside self contained campsite. Probably one of my favourite places to camp anywhere. Make sure you visit the cafe before you leave in the morning
Great spot on the coast for camping, best spot on way from Picton to Christchurch. Owners improving site, including plans for facilities. On site cafe, The Store, is very good. Don’t miss it!
