Great place if you love beauty and space and convenience. They’re my main criteria for a great camp. Showers basic but good enough.
Not many sandflies when we went.
I would go again😊
The least value for money of our whole trip.
Neither of the 2 hot showers worked.
Food and beverages at the pub where you pay were expensive.
Points to note - LOTS of sandflies and wasps. Just be prepared and there is no real problem. Wear a face mask to protect against the sandflies.
Nice covered area you can cook in and prepare a tent if you need to.
Down a gravel drive but gentle slope,

Big area and few campingvans. But there are thousens of sandflies and wasps. We have to sit inside the car the whole afternon and evening. Sorry, but we can’t recommend it!
The reviews are right about sandflies - but these are OK if you cover yourself up with Bugspray - they will fly around you but not bother you.
The location is worth it - the campsite is next to a beautiful stream and there are clean and usable facilities for both shower and toilet on site. The site doesn't get at all busy and there are several clumps of trees that offer shade and a spot to hang a hammock. The owners have a lovely, old Pub on the site that has the most friendly cat, cheap beers and both indoor tables and a lovely beer garden. They also serve food but we did not eat here.

Good spot by the river, clean facilities. The hot showers where really nice! Its true about the sandfly's there really are a lot of them, but if you keep them outside, you will be fine.
Clean facilities, $10 per person, hot showers. Friendly staff at the tavern and decent prices. 1 million sand flies.
Very pretty location and cheap. Facilities were ok. Lots of sandflies!!!!

Good place for stopover when passing trough the Lewis Pass. It is a field next to the river. Sheep take care of the grass it has poo so watch your feet! Shower and toilet in cubicle hot shower 6 minutes. 10 dollars pp is cheap. If you want powered it is 5 dollars more.
A lot of space, very quiet, with two shower cabins (6 minutes of hot water), nice staff, but thousands of sandflies... We've paid $10 per person.
Has 2 toilets/showers. Cost $10 per person. Friendly staff, pretty clean, lots of space to chose. Only big problem are sandflies.
Price has gone up to $10 per night per person, even though signs still say $9 (Feb 2016). Two shower/toilet capsules, one of which did not have a shower unit at all, and one that had either boiling or freezing water with no in between. Positives - large field and cooling shelter. Negatives - stated above + sandflies.
Beautiful, peaceful, with easy access to the river. Large open area, free showers, clean flushing toilets and two swings. A good relaxing stop after the excitement of the Buller River!
Beautiful!! Except for the sandflies.
