Place is nice but quite noisy since its near the road and railway. When we stayed at the campsite there were some locals parking at the foreshore and playing loud music til late. There is a public toilet around which was fine but a little dirty.
The campsite is alright if you are just staying for one night otherwise i would stay somewhere lese.

Very busy, with wing-mirror to wing-mirror parking. We got the last spot on arrival at about 5pm. Very convenient for the ferry (but double Google Maps estimated travel time if you're heading for the ferry, due to traffic and road maps). You'll need some levellers for your campervan unless you get lucky.
Convenient location 15 min from Wellington, nice place but toilets are shared with the sport fields nearby, so not clean really.
Great waterfront spot to spend the night. Signage of where to park not that clear but lots of other vans there so we just parked between them. Nice to walk along water front and easy walk to shops including supermarket and great bar D4 with fast wifi. Booked ferry tickets for next day there through direct ferries and was surprised by almost $70 in free meal vouchers to use during trip. Train station close good spot to park and train into Wellington. Toilets a stroll away.
Nice place to stay overnight. Short way to railwaystation to Wellington. All 3 days very windy.

Great spot away from the craziness of the city. Beautiful camp site next to the water. Good amount of spaces, we never had trouble to find something. Toilets are available and in ok condition.
Very nice view, the place is really great. Toilets are not very nice or clean for New Zeland standards, but we enjoy a lot our night there.
Save up to 70% on campsite fees! Support conservation and experience the natural beauty of NZ. 78 Department of Conservation campsites, one convenient pass.
Great place to stop to catch the early ferry.
Clean toilets close by, New World supermarket and Sandbar pub within walking distance.
Only bad thing was that someone left the fan on full blast all night. It was windy.
I'll bet that people thought that we were up to monkey business in the van,but it was the wind honest.
It was pretty good but hard to find the good spot after 3 or 4pm. There are kind of park. You could play in the park. ha There have public toilet and ocean view. Toilet was just good.
Free sites along a waterfront road. To the left toward the marina, to the right ends in a carpark with access to the beach. Behind the sites are playing fields with clean toilets, ruin of a historic building, a playground and a train station within a short walk. Every facility you need including groceries, cafes and laundry are a short drive away. Staying here we caught the sunset with a quiet glass of wine, and had a restful night before catching the early interislander the next morning. Locals were lovely. When we woke motorhomes and campervans were lined up close to each other and it seems many of us were waiting for the Interislander also.
SO WINDY. We pulled up on the right hand side as you go in as the left was full. I'm assuming that they were all experts in wind prediction as us and one other were the only ones to brave it out on that side of the site. Although the site itself is great and has toilets, the wind was terrifying. I'm sure I'm overreacting but I did google wind speeds that cause vans to blow over because it was shaking the van! Great spot for the brave though.
Good spot, easy to find. Nice view.
No dump station and no water to fill the tank but only bottles. Toilets and outside, a shower if you just need to refresh.
Free with public toilet in walking distance. Enough space to park motorhome and to sit outside with a decent Sauvignon was excellent. There's a playground and fields too for kids to run off energy after day in van. Dump station in garage 1/4 mile away. Very handy.
Busy stop off point maybe 20 motorhomes including a few big coach motorhomes but then it was Saturday night and it is very convenient for ferry terminal. Certainly one of the windiest overnight stops we have been to. Great for access to the water for boating kayaking etc. Bonus is the BP fuel station nearby which has toilet dumping, waste recycle, and water.
Nice free campsite next to the sea. Besides local sports fields wit free toilets on a few minutes walk.
Access savings worth hundreds of $$ on Top Ranked NZ Accommodation and Activities for just $1 per day.
Nice place to get the ferry the next morning. It can be little bit noisy if you sleep close to the train rails. Public toilets available.
The place we were planning to stay at wasn't accessible as the road was closed, so this was a great find! The views of the estuary were beautiful, although we stayed there during particularly unseasonably windy weather and the camper rocked us from side to side like we were on a boat. Perfect for accessing Wellington - catch a train from across the tracks for around $15 return. We also used this as a convenient stop off before catching the ferry to the South Island - took around 15 minutes in no traffic!
Proper flush toilets available down the lane a little way.

Good location for Wellington. We took the train in from the Mana train station just across the fields. Site gets busy early due to location, we arrived at 16:00 and was quite a squeeze.
Nice place at the coastline in a large green domain to stay there and explore the capital or wait for the ferry. Don't arrive to late, the campsite is at a favorable location. We enjoyed two nights there and the far traffic noise was filtered by the parc trees.

Nice surroundings inside a large park, so a bit of the city noise. Right on the water. Perfect distance to Wellington. When we stayed there it got a bit noisy at times as there are motor boats passing by, airplanes flying overhead and especially the train tracks very close by with the trains honking right as they pass by.
Beautiful, big park right on the sea front. Toilets, and water tap hidden on wall of cricket house opposite toilets.
Beautiful spot by the estuary, train station just across playing field and only $16 return trip to Wellington, well worth it ! Would camp here again as it was very handy to get to the Ferry only 20mins. A shame that no one patrols this area as there were quite a few people camped here that were not self contained !!
We woke up to views of the water, could be a bit windy at times I guess, but an excellent free site close to Wellington. No problem with noises from sportsground or road. Easily made our 8am ferry.
Camping gratuit, peu de place mais on arrive a en trouver quand même.
Toilettes public (stade) juste à côté.
Magnifique vue sur la mer et la presqu'île de l'autre côté.
A good spot only about 20 minutes from Wellington. Nice surroundings and a toilet on the sports ground. A bit breezy , but it is on the coast, so to be expected.
Beautiful spot, clean, mowed, rubbish collection, public toilet, water. Beside the estuary. Certified self contained vehicles only.
Nyla and Alan Ramsay
Great spot. Watch the walkers, boaters, sunset etc. Walk to supermarket, train station. Catch a train to Porirua, Kapiti or Wellington. You do get buffeted on a windy night as it is open to the sea.
Awesome but exposed site, particularly in the 40mph winds and rain we experienced, but what a stunning location. Seemed to be parking for campers all along this section although we parked up at Sea Scouts/marina end.
Good location behind sports ground in Mana. Close to train station for access to Wellington. Toilet not far away.
Really nice free spot to stay. A lot of options where to park.
Free camping in a bay, toilets are a little bit far away, not declared as a campsite, behind the cricket grounds, nice, clean, small and free.
Good place to stay before taking the ferry to the South Island as there is no freedom camping in Wellington.
Only self-contained vehicles, good option if you stay near Wellington, public toilets.
No water for the campervan.
Good location, close to Wellington, nice area.
Perfect free campsite for self contained vehicles. Its only 20 mins into the city perfect to camp up before catching the ferry. Beaut spot to catch the sunset just down on the beach, sweet for bit of fishing in the sea, has clean toilets available and shops near by.
Free. Stayed here 3 nights. Basic flushable toilet facility. Right next to rugby field with frequent pactices, so if you go to bed early be prepared to have field lights on! Closest free site to Wellington with toilet, which is why we stayed here with our non-SC van. Just off the highway to Wellington. Fairly full in April so you may want to arrive early.
Great place to stay, there were several other bigger campervans when we stayed there with our not-selfcontained van (but there is no sign that it is prohibited). Public toilets with light but no power sockets. Get busy on saturdays (close to a rugby field). Make sure you park on the back parklot (end of the street and then to the left) where you have a nice view on the water and the little harbour.
