Loved our tour guide, Willow. Loved my other traveling companions. Wish the snow safari were longer...like maybe 12 days to give us either extra free days or extra ski days (i.e. ski one of the resorts more than once). Awesome scenery. Great ski terrain. I so hope I have a chance to do it again sometime.

Did the South Island snow safari and it was a truly amazing experience. The haka staff at the lodges, and of course our tour guide Hygi, were fantastic. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for adventure and the best NZ has to offer. The itinerary is perfect and I would do it all again in a heartbeat! 10/10

7 day Southern Alps Tour. Aug 9 - Aug 16. Started in Christchurch, finished in Queenstown.
We were fortunate to get some snowfall at the start of our tour, which made the conditions quite nice.
Our tour guide Haygi has been shredding the southern alps since '92 and has plenty of connections to prove it. He is a top notch guy who knows where to find the best runs on the mountain as well as the coldest brews and best slice of pizza après-ski. Don't hesitate to ask him for anything, he will help you.
I insist that you finish this tour by staying in Queenstown for an extra day and experiencing the plethora of adventure activities that surround you. You have to try the Canyon Swing. Make sure to book all your extra curricular activities through your tour guide, it makes it seamless.
After this premiere visit to NZ, it has me jonesing to come back in the summer.
Cheers

This review is for the 12 day tour completed in August 2015.......
I travelled out from the UK for the trip. Holly and Nicola based in the office handled all the pre departure questions and queries really well given it was by email and a 12 hour time difference (the Haka paper work from the website is excellent and covers virtually all the bases). I went for the optional extra of having my own room on the tour and this turned out really well (nothing against the rest of the "team" on the tour - you know who you are).
Jamie our guide (and driver) had the organisation down to a tee and had the complication of looking at the weather to decide the forward plan...... Given the weather and the snow conditions Jamie did an excellent job (tour was 9th to 20th August). Obviously the weather is a big variable and the 12 day is not 12 days of skiing every day. There are some part days - travelling and skiing and transfer days between ski fields. Overall the itinerary is flexible to cope with weather and snow conditions and the state of the various fields (and the access roads). The itinerary as on the website is not firm and fixed.
I can't fault Jamie and the Haka team on the organisation of the tour. For instance they are obviously trying different accommodation to improve the experience and are not resting on their "laurels" which is refreshing - a continuous improvement culture! I didn't partake in the optional extras at Wanaka (heliskiing, skydiving) but those that did seemed to have successful days.
Overall a great experience and measured up to expectation - see a good part of the South Island and experience New Zealand skiing.
Not quite a 10 out of 10 as Haka were let down right at the last minute by the shuttle company in Christchurch - not following instructions for transferring bags and completing an airport transfer at the end of the last day..... this is being changed!!!
All in all if you want to do the South Island ski experience do it with Haka!!

I loved travelling with Haka snow tours. I went on the 7 day snow tour. Booking was easy. Nic was wonderful with answering any questions I had and nothing was too much of a problem. Even at the end of the tour when my flight was changed and I needed more accommodation the ladies in the office were wonderful.

Travelling on my own, it was my first time on a board and I hadn't even skied for years. Burto was our guide and a legend. He knows the best runs and terrains for both skiers and boarders (he does both) and willing to accommodate anyone's skill level/style. As the weather in NZ changes so quickly sometimes the itinerary will change. Burto knew exactly where to go and was skilled at predicting how the snow would change so everyone got the most out of their day. Ask him anything about the local area and he could probably answer it.

The dorm accommodation is great especially the Haka lodges. The tour is social and really well organised, Burto let us know the best places to eat and drink in Wanaka, Queenstown and Tekapo.

Can't wait to come back next year!

I did the 12 day Odyssey with Jamie D. We were the first group to do this tour. Jamie was an outstanding guide and professional driver. I felt very safe on the roads to the ski fields despite our vehicle being a two wheel drive (I heard they have since upgraded to 4x4). The group was small and adaptable to some of the changes we had to make due to conditions and weather. Jamie's experience and knowledge made these changes effortless. The nut-cracker rope tows can be challenging . They are pretty easy to learn on skis, but if you snowboard you should be reasonably comfortable with riding switch as the side you have to ride on can change.
Haka tours was very responsive and easy to work with. They helped me with shuttle connections, lodging and hiring ski equipment when the airline lost my skis. It is hard to find a company with such consistently high ratings and good reviews online, but in my experience Haka tours has earned them many times over.

Burto was our tour guide and his knowledge and passion for NZ made the tour even more memorable. His enthusiasm got me more excited about NZ and I want to go back again.

I felt that I was well taken care of. Burto checked the weather before we went to the ski fields to make sure we would go to the ones with the best conditions that day. Even though dinners were not provided in the tour, Burto would suggest restaurants and join the group. The restaurants he recommended were very tasty and good value. Not only did I have a fun snow boarding experience, I really enjoyed the food in NZ as well.

I stayed in a single room, so I found the accommodation very comfortable- especially at Lake Tekapo.

Would highly recommend Haka tours to anyone. Even if you are a pro Skier, snowboarder or professional Snowman maker, this tour is 100% for for you. Haka Tours has helped me fall in love with New Zealand.

The tour is incredibly relaxed (what you want from a holiday) yet had a completely organised feeling to it. Burto, our guide, had such depth of knowledge of the land, the people, the "tourist" spots and the unknown gems. Combining that with his contagious positive vibe makes him an amazing guide. Each day was it's own unique adventure.

I went to learn how to snowboard, what I've learnt is so much more.

I'll be back to NZ as soon as possible with Haka.

I would highly recommend the 7 day snow/ski tour. The tour guides were knowledgeable and very friendly and really made the experience a happy and fulfilling one. The Haka lodge(s) in both Queenstown and Christchurch are excellent and the transport situation is ideal. The Purple Cow in Wanaka is also sufficient for the needs of this tour. I appreciated the flexibility of the tour and appreciated having the option of staying with the group for activities and also choosing to do my own thing when I wished. Met a fantastic group of people from all over the world and this was really the highlight of the trip.

I had a sweet week going up and down the hills during this tour. The atmosphere is cool and everybody is up for a laugh.
Burto is a great guide, very patient -he taught some snowboard stuff as it was my first time on a board- and always helpful and fun. He always had something to tell about a place.
Hake choose well the route and you see beautiful landscapes (Tekapo, Queenstown...). The accommodation during the tour is ok and even excellent in the two Hake Lodges (Christchurch and Queenstown).

Hard to be disappointed in my opinion. Had a wonderful experience on tour.

What an amazing experience! Wanted to get up (and down) a few mountains whilst in NZ so booked a tour with Haka. I did treat myself as I didn't initially want to send this much, however I'm SOOOO glad I did! Burto the tour guide, driver and all round legend is a fantastic rep for the company, never a dull moment :D Nic and Robyn were really so helpful in setting up my booking, including moving dates around for me so I could get the most out of my trip. The mountains and fields on South Island are sic, mixed up for all abilities. I was boarding with people MUCH more advanced than me but it didn't matter - B even took some time just to cruise around with me (the slow one!) I would highly recommend using Haka - the enthusiasm is so infectious, the places they take you are awesome and the people you meet are just wonderful. Thanks Haka!

You may be wondering why there are so many 10/10 reviews for the Haka Snow Tours. Well believe me they have put together a great package and they truly deserve the praise.

Firstly my trip didn't start as planned. Due to a massive amount of fog in Christchurch our aircraft was unable to land and we had to be diverted to Auckland. After spending a night in Auckland we finally landed in Christchurch. However the tour had already departed from Haka Lodge to Mt Hutt. Fortunately though I got in contact with Ryan and he came and picked two of us from the Airport and took us up to Mt Hutt to meet up with the rest of the tour, so we didn't miss out on anything.

As for the rest of the tour it was simply one of the best holidays of my life. Steve was a great tour guide and set a great vibe for the group. Everyone started out as stranger but towards the end we became great friends. It was also great being able to experience so many different ski fields. Steve helped out organize some lessons for me which helped get me to that next level, I was skiing blue & black run with confidence.

The accommodation was budget as was expected, but it was clean and everywhere had hot showers which is a must after a hard day skiing.

It was a great experience and I made some great friends. I'll definitely be back in the future. It just feels a bit weird now not wearing Ski Pants all day :P

Tour was well planned and catered for all types, for me it was great to meet a new outgoing bunch, have a guide for the slopes and a local who could recommend mad exciting things day after day. The flexible snow tour means you always maximise good snow conditions and if there’s a party not to be missed… you don’t miss it! I would find it hard to improve anything throughout the week, an honest 10/10.

Snow safari was amazing!!!! The Haka staff were nothing short of amazing, answering any queries and happy to help organise my trip either side of my tour. The lodge is a great site and a warm comfy base to meet and start with your tour group as well as to crash exhausted after an amazing trip, the staff happy to organise shuttles and transfers as well as local attractions to kill the time waiting for your tours to start or waiting for the plane home.
Steve was a sick tour guide! Most relaxed yet professional bloke I've met. He knew the country backwards taking the tour well beyond just a few days on snow. Once on snow he opens up the ski fields with his knowledge and favourite runs trying to push everyone to experience something new and improve their skills. The laid back democracy he ran the group with made it so much more relaxing, allowing us to tend to the previous days bruises or gun it and attempt open to close all with his opinions on the weather and conditions of each ski field. Not afraid of a cold one either!
Thank you Steve and the Haka Tours team for an amazing trip!

I'm writing this fresh off the high of a 7 day Snow Safari offered by Haka Tours.
High in altitude, high in spirits, highly rated.
I had never seen snow before so was a total beginner at snowboarding. I love it now thanks to Haka Tours. I met up with 2 other friends over there doing the same tour, and Haka ensured we could be kept together. It was great to not have to worry, just sit back and enjoy the ride to the next snow field.
I chose to hire clothing and gear, all was in good condition. There were no unexpected costs on the tour. I prepaid all the extras I wanted before I left (skydiving) and the only thing I spent money on over there was lunch/dinner, drinks, souvenirs, laundry and unplanned activities on free time.
We arrived a few days prior to our tour leaving so did some exploring ourselves. We found everything you want to do can be organised via the Haka tour office, eg. tranzalpine trains. Staff were happy to provide info on where to go on your own, getting to city, nightlife etc. On tour the guide gives you a run down of each town too.
Considering you go to a new field everyday, you don’t seem to spend an excessive amount of time on the bus. However, when you are aboard, the bus is like your home for the week and its ok to get comfy :) The snowfields Haka chose to take us were pretty sweet, I know I’m a beginner but there seemed to be enough options to keep the more advanced guys happy too. If you're a beginner, paying for a lesson is definitely recommended, its worth it as it gets you out there much quicker!
Steve was a fantastic guide to have, such a positive, encouraging and adventurous guy. He was more like having a knowledgeable, enthusiastic mate who'd organised where we were going, way better than your average tour guide. Very approachable for a chat, question or a laugh, and always with his giant smile :)
Already planning to use Haka again for future trips to NZ. A beautiful country presented by a fantastic team!

There was 10 of us all up, averaged around 20 - 30yrs old. We boarded most days, and partied over the night with Steve-o showing us where the best nightlife was. Steve also took us on 'adventures' through the snow, which lead to us in fresh powder, steeep runs and through natural half pipes. I would not even consider doing the NZ snow slopes any other way now and I plan to go back every year to do the same tour! Thanks to Steve and the Haka Tours team for making this holiday one of the best I've ever had! :)

Awesome tour. Size of group meant that the tour guide could get amongst it with us and show us the best runs at each mountain. Did mountains/things you'd never do if you just went by yourself. Great group, great tour guides. Thanks heaps Steve and El.

Had an amazing time on our NZ tour of the south island with Haka Tours. With this we were able to experience different places and mountains which i would not have done without this tour. Steve our tour guide was very helpful and was willing to change the plans due to weather conditions. The whole tour was well organised with accommodation and breakfast being provided.
WIll be doing this tour again in the near future. Thanks Steve and Ellen :-)

Amazing time touring the south island's finest. Saw some amazing places and mountains that I would have never made it to doing this myself. Tour guide Steve showed us all the best runs and lines. Great small group and we all had a ball. Cheers to Haka Tours and especially Stevo the mad snake and Ellen. xx

We had the absolute best time on our NZ snow tour. Steve was a great tour guide and gave us the flexibility to change ski fields based on crowds and weather. All of the accommodation was clean and tidy, and the tour was very well planned out with plenty of time to ski and relax at each area. Ready to sign up again for next year!

Snow safari is an epic tour that i would reckon to anyone. There is a word I repeated too many times during the tour, its " beautiful": beautiful scenes, beautiful experience, beautiful people and behaviors. Of course we couldnt enjoy these without the dedication of our tour manager - Steve - he is a wicked man. Thanks Steve!

I had an awesome time during my 7 day snow tour on the smallest Haka Tour ever. Stevo was a legend and his willingness to go out of his way to make sure we were making the most of the experience was tremendous.
I will definately be booking again and highly encourage others to embark on a Haka Tour. You definately won't regret it.

i did the 7 day snow safari. it was the best part of my 18 days in NZ. Steve the tour guide was a bloody legend. went to small unknown ski fields which were awesome. the trip was so relaxed but did and saw so much. we were all ways stoping to do and see little thing along the way which make it an awesome trip instead of a good one. the whole trip was just like a mad road trip with the mates. ill most definitely be going back one day in the near future. OHAU I LOVE THE TRIP. best tour ever keep up the good work

Hey Guys

Just to say thanks again for an awesome snow trip last week! Steve was an absolute legend and always did his very best to get us on the snow despite the sh1tty weather conditions. He definitely saved our trip by always being positive and motivated to give everything a go. And as you know, he even extended the tour by a day for free and gave up his day off so that we could go heli-boarding after it had been cancelled 3 days in a row due to the strong winds. That day made up for all the bad weather we had for sure.

Thanks again and I will definitely be coming back and recommending your company to my friends. For those reading this review online, I went on their snow tour on my own and had a blast. Great crew of like minded travellers on the tour too.

I did the snow safari, and it was absolutely awesome. I thought that as kiwi I knew all of the local spots and best places to head...but steve the tour guide blew me away with his knowledge of little gems. The itinerary was perfect to maximise the time on the mountain, but minimise the travel time too. I had an awesome group of travellers in my group and party scene went off.
I'm hoping to squeeze another haka snow safari in this season before the snow melts and would ABSOLUTELY recommend this haka tour, or any other to everyone considering it. It's the best priced, most personal and unique tour you'll ever do!

What a fantastic tour to sample some of the best skiing in the Southern hemisphere.
The tour was very well organized and completely hassle free. Our tour manager Steve showed his vast experience in getting us to the slopes on time, reading the weather correctly and giving us an interesting and fun tour. Steve was always friendly and helpful throughout the trip.
Well done Haka Tours team I had a great time. I will be back next year.

This was the best tour I have had the pleasure of being on in NZ.

I searched around for some time looking for a tour that would allow me to snowboard - something I had never done before - and also see the South Island.

The tour lived up and surpassed everything I'd hoped for. It took us to seven different slopes in six days. This allowed us not only to tour the south island's fantastic winter sports venues, but also to see the island itself.

The tour-guides were warm, friendly - and very professional - and were always keen to join in with the social activities we took part in most evenings. It was a small group of us, which made it so much more personable and more fun and we had a great week hanging out together and getting to know each other fantastic environment.

As an absolute beginner I loved every minute of the snowboarding. The tour catered well for beginners and lessons were provided and encouraged. I must warn you in advance: you must be prepared for some scrapes and bruises, however this will not restrain you from leaping out of bed each morning, in the freezing cold, eager to get back on the slopes and keep going. Once you get the bug, you are completely hooked!

The only negative thing I have to say about this experience was it ended too soon. Thanks Haka Tours, you guys are awesome!!
