Get amongst the remote southern reaches of NZ's Catlins coast. Good as gold!
This is a council designated campsite. Follow the signs to Slope Point (New Zealands most southern point), turn off onto Weir Road and drive to the estury. A great view.

Standard free campsite -- Long drop toilet, (non-drinkable) tap and sink. The night we stayed was pretty windy but the camp site is a bit sheltered. The area was fairly full by night time, when we arrived lat afternoon it was maybe three quarters full. It's 2km up a dirt road but the rest is sealed (think the road is newly surfaced as most of our maps had it marked as dirt).

Super cool spot! Lots of people, but a sink to do dishes (I probably wouldn’t drink the water), a toilet, beautiful sunset, and the ocean is very near the campsite and there are tons of cute little crabs to watch run around!

Quite small campsite, it got crowded but everyone still found a spot. Clean long drop toilet and a sink for the dishes.

We weren’t sold on this spot—super crowded that we were confused if we were even in the right spot. Nice and quiet rest though!

Great spot for free. Heaps of space. Clean long drop. Water and sink for dish washing.

Small one... don't have access to the beach, toilets are clean, it's very small and there were already 5 vans.

Campsite is a little bit retired from the main road but nice. Big large grassy area with trees and inlet behind. Super cool for a walkway. Protect and respect nature!

Went in February, so full of vans it's hard to think.

Landed quite late on a rainy day. Wind picked up during the night but the surrounding trees offered shelter from the worst gusts. The toilet gave a rough impression from the outside but turned out to be really nice and tidy! The grass area was hard and firm and we had no problems going back out to the road with the 3500 kg motorhome on the soaking wet grass.

Camping in large field area surrounded by large trees. Beautiful tidy estuary unspoilt which can be crossed at low tide to get to large sandy beach do not miss the crossing back otherwise long walk or swim back. You will need to wade a little to get across to the beach. If you go pass the entrance to the campsite there is space for two or three pitches or vans with amazing views as main camp site has limited or no views sneaky area around the corner makes this site wow if you can get this pitch, it feels like you have your own little island all to yourself lovely spot. Toilet X1 and fresh water available at this site however take rubbish with you. This site is also free. Good gravel road to site. 10/10 as we got a spot with amazing views here. Very few bugs here to nibble on you nothing really to worry about but worth carrying repellant just in case.
