Loved this spot. Really rugged, classic kiwi scenery. Self contained only as there’s no loo. To get there just drive all the way up the golf course road to the top of the hill. The beach below the site is amazing too.
NO FACILITIES WHATSOEVER. Reviews mentioning toilets are talking about Moray Terrace down the road. This is a grassy rutted area at the end of the gravel road to the golf course on the cliff above the bay. If there is any wind at all it will be 10x worse here. Very much free-for-all with finding a spot, there is probably room for 5 vans to be level. A very "at your own risk" camping spot but at least it won't be crowded.
Great flat spot with lots of space, toliets are good, great views
This is a beautiful spot if the weather cooperates. Lies up on the bluffs behind the golf course overlooking the ocean. We didn't stay because the wind was too strong. There is absolutely no shelter. No facilities.
Freedom camping at its best, amazing view across to steward Island. Drive to here was on a gravel road but quite an adventure. Toilet facilities were okay but nothing else. Amazing sunset.....
Most favourite local for freedom camping in the month of travelling around NZ. The views and sunset were fabulous and walking the top of the cliffs provided stunning vistas. No toilet but no problem. Only three other campers up there that night. Such a treat.
We could have stopped at Moray Terrace which has stunning harbour bay views and a toilet. However we chanced it and went onwards up to this clifftop site next to their golf course.
Just two Motorhomes including us stayed the night. Incredible sunset and a 2k stroll along a beach we had all to ourselves. Freedom camping at its best. Passed Moray Terrace on the way back. It was packed even in mid March.
I know I have nothing to compare, as this was my first time at freedom camping. However before we left home in England we liked the idea of doing this. I had visions of being parked up on a cliff, looking down onto a sandy beach which we could access and being able to hear the waves below. This ticked all those boxes.
No facility, at the top of a cliff, great view, beside the golf-area, way in to the area can be difficult, toilet in the camp at the slip-area.
A place with toilets where you are allowed to stay overnight, great cliffs nearby.
