Time: 7 hours one way
Start the track off from Ngapuka Bay with a steep climb to the top of a ridge before levelling out and continuing on to Okataina Outdoor Education Centre, from there follow the track to Millar Road (Lake Okareka) this track is steep in places, and the surface maybe rough and uneven, but the view from Whakapoungakau Trig is well worth the effort.
The Western Okataina Walkway from the Okataina Outdoor Education Centre to Millar Road (Lake Okareka) is now dual use and open to both walking/tramping and mountain biking

Fantastic challenging mountain bike track.
35km return with one tough climb, otherwise mostly easy climbs and awesome flowing downhills throughout. Three hours riding plus two hours for lunch and swims at both ends of track. Track starting to get a little overgrown in places and could be a bit slippery in wet conditions
