The sand dunes are amazing! The walk up them is hard work but we had a ball going down. You can rent a board on site for $15 if you don’t have one and the Māori couple renting boards were really friendly, we had a great chat with them!
A must do and see for every tourist. Loved it.
Fun, cheap, only have to pay to hire a board, $15. No time limit and amazing scenery!
The sand dunes are incredible. But go with your own smooth bottom board. The rental people on site in the car park are expensive and unfriendly. Otherwise great fun had by all.
Very nice activity! Lots of fun with the board, only con is that the boars is $15 and you are tired after 3 times.
An awesome place to visit the north of the North Island. Some nice tracks around it, good camping places and you are able to go sandboarding.
Surf down huge sand dunes and enjoy an amazing view between the sea, the sand dunes and the forest.

It was awesome, the weather was terrible, but the view was still beautiful.
Rent a board for $10 and have fun sliding down massive sand dunes.
We rented the sandboards a bit outside of the sand dune area - because renting at the spot closes at 5pm. The sandboarding itself was first a bit scary, but after some training on baby hills, we enjoyed the speed a lot - definitely recommendable.
Funny activity, you can try some tricks with the board if you are brave enough. Really sandy, some cleaning facilities would be nice.
Great few hours at the dunes. Great fun.
Especially the sand dunes itself were breathtaking because they were just like placed into the green bush. Also, the boarding down the dunes was nice - you have to stand up!
Very funny, good sensations. Close your mouth during the slide and use sunglasses, the sand can enter everywhere.

Super cool experience in an amazing environment. Boards are quite expensive to rent.
Much fun with sandboards.
It made so much fun riding down the impressive sand dunes with the board! You get so fast......awesome!
Cheap activity in an interesting environment. Touristic.
Amazing and fun experience! Fast, may be painful but still one of the best things you can do up North. Free if you have a bodyboard, $15 to hire a bodyboard if needed.
Don't use a wooden or plastic board, even if it's waxed, that's not working on the sand. Hire a board for $10-15, they know what's working.
Surfing itself is awesome!
Cheap activity and so much fun!

Surfboarding at the beach down the hill. A bit boring if you lie down, more exciting if you try to stand up.
Really worth it.
Really enjoyed the afternoon, so much fun in the dunes! Beautiful landscapes.
I enjoyed it too but be careful, it can be a little bit dangerous. I was injured in my back/neck when I fell down in the sand.
Awesome! So cool!
Cheap and loads of fun! Great for an afternoon of fun.
We rented a bodyboard for $15 and it was worth it! The climb to the top of the dune was not easy but the boarding was so fun that we had to climb it again.
The climb of the sand dune was exhausting but when you ride down with a body board you forget the effort.
A lot of fun, amazing experience.
Spectacular dunes and a lot of fun with the boards. 15$ for rent a board its expensive but in the end very funny. Climb up and have fun!
A lot of fun.
Very exhausting long way up the dunes.
Long and exhausting way up the dunes but worth doing!!
The dunes are spectacular but the boarding is boring and very expensive (to rent the board), enjoy the nature, it is better.
If you have got a body board so no need to rent a special sandboard. Just go uphill on the sand, sit or lie on it and slide!!
Giant dunes, Far North. You will need your own sandboard.
We hired a bodyboard of a guy with a van full of bodyboards (15$ per board, as long as you like). And had lots of fun! It's veeery hard work walking up those dunes and very short fun to go down, but so worth it!
Make sure you go up the high ones in the back, it's like being in the Sahara :). Lots of sand! ;) Beautiful!
Closest I've been to a Desert and in 'our' backyard
So many & such magnificent Sand Dunes
Get your partner to walk up first, then follow in their footsteps ... took all the effort out of my climbing
Lots of fun - recommend you get a boogie board.
Take a body board - amazing!!
