Clutha River Track

Alexandra to Clyde

Time: 3 - 4 hrs, Distance: 12.8km (one way)

This track follows the Clutha River on the true right bank between Alexandra and Clyde. Although graded as ‘easy’ it is 12.8km and will take 3-4 hours to complete. It is a popular walking and cycle track, with sections suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. The track stays within 20 meters of the river and mostly in the shade of large willow trees. A fantastic walk or bike with the kids for a day out and especially good in the height of summer when shade is appreciated. There are numerous spots to stop and picnic or just enjoy the ambiance.

If you decide to ride this, you can turn it into a great 25km loop by riding down the first part of the Otago Central Rail Trail on the way back.

Enjoy!

Beautiful track for walkers and bikers. Lots of place to swim and ropes to jump into the water.

Great trail from Wanaka along the lake into Albert Town take Newcastle Track, up to Luggate and return via the Clutha River Track. 50km in total, but absolutely amazing views of the golden fields of the regions and with the mountains for the background. Stunning!

Loved this. We camped and cycled. The Clutha is large and it is wonderful to be so close to it. Quite different to the highways. Some old house and vehicles along the way.

A well prepared pathway alongside the Clutha River. Good signage. First class scenery. Reasonably flat.

We biked this from Clyde to Alexandra. Great family outing. Few sandy patches on the track and you had to watch for people coming the other way. Bonus of swinging in to the river on a buoy swing at the Alexandra end. Would recommend this to others. My husband biked back to get the car.
