Worth it! Walked from the Evans Bay Marina (free) carpark a few blocks to the start of the Mt. then up through the forestpark (passed the Frodo-site, which is a bit disappointing nowadays, I imagine it being more movie-worthy years ago) to the topview which was definitely worth it. View over the whole city and harbours. You'll pass a few more nice viewingpoint coming from this direction. Walked it in about two hours return. Some steep parts but very doable. There are several ways up/down through the park. Nice park to get away from the city. An exercise-treat when visiting this city.
Short walk with an amazing view over Wellington. Would definitely recommend this track!
You can walk from Evans Bay to the city centre passing Mt Victoria. A very steep climb, but well worth the effort! The view from the lookout is astonishing and the walk down is nice viewing the beautiful houses on the hill. Took us roughly two hours.
Climb to the top of Mt Victoria for great views over the city of Wellington and the airport.
Nice walk and great views!
Great view of the city from the top. Walked up here most days during my stay in Wellington.
It has a great lookout above the surrounding water area and Wellington. Nice to sit in the grass and have some lunch. Only takes about 15 minutes to walk up.

Offers a nice view of Wellington, the airport and the harbour and is very accessible from the centre of the city.
Good walk, great view of Wellington, good spot to watch the sunset.
Two hours of walking up a steep, windy road but totally worth it as you get to see Wellington from all angles.

From above you have a great view of Wellington and the sea.
Amazing view to the city and around.
Nice lookout to Wellington and surroundings.
Great walk through the beautiful urban area, then forest to arrive at a beautiful lookout. Awesome 360 degree view of Wellington.

Mt Victoria has one of the most beautiful lookouts I have been to so far! Nice spot to watch the sunrise! It is easy to reach.
Nice view, awesome at night.
It is for free and it is a great view! We have done it every evening we stayed in Wellington.
Cool view over the city and airport.
Beautiful view from the top over Wellington! We ran up the hill and it was worth it!
Gets a bit crowded at the summit. But walking up is a nice quiet bushwalk. Some of the best views of Wellington from here.
You can either choose to drive to the top or there are various points around the city that you can start from. Can get a 360 degree view of Wellington. The walks can be slightly steep but not too difficult. If you can drive then drive as it isn't as good a view to walk it up.
Really nice view over Wellington with all the water and islands. Many sporty people there.
Great views across the city and can see where parts of the Hobbit were filmed.
Great views and lots of Lord of the Rings scenes filmed here.
You could pay for a tour or find some of the locations from Lord of the Rings here for free.
Several walks and bike tracks. Lovely scenery. Several nice parks to stop part way up and picnic. At the top a gorgeous, panoramic view of the city, green belt, harbour, sea and mountains.
A short walk but steep in parts. Great views from top. Perfect when looking for free things to do in Wellington.
Amazing sight over Wellington surrounding areas.
Amazing climb and awesome view at the top too! Also, I love how it's the home of many scenes from Lord of the Rings. Great little park! :)
The climb is totally worth the fabulous views over Wellington city ....
Fantastic view over Wellington + surroundings. Take Bus no. 20 up to Mt. Victoria and walk from the top down again (bus no.20 only runs Mon-Fri).
Top notch view of Wellington + harbour

You can drive up Mt Victoria, but walking up means you have earned the view.
Really steep track through a small forest but worth the view of the city.
