Went to Kerosene Creek in on a rainy day in October in hope to find it less crowded. Wasn’t too busy but still a lot of people. People who would wash themselves up stream obviously with normal soap, people who would sit in there brushing their teeth and spit, full diapers and other rub Bush left on the side of the stream. Decided not to take a bath.
Amazing little spot with thermal water, just a bit polluted (people leaving beer bottles etc).
Amazing spot just out of the city that is free for all to enjoy and easy to locate.
Very nice free hot spring with a nice flair! We felt very safe!
Awesome creek off the highway between Rotorua and Taupo. The creek is fed by geothermal pools so the water is hot! Also free!
This place was other worldy! I could not believe there was a completely natural flowing and hot spring that was completely free! Only downside = the road in was terrible!!

Rough gravel road to get there but the setting of Kerosene Creek is totally worth it. Great spot for a free hot bath.
Road was very bumpy gravel, for a couple of kms from the highway. But once you got there it was totally worth it! We had two preschoolers with us and it was as warm as bath water and not too deep and not fast-flowing. Lots of people, but we expected that. A great little stop! Highly recommended!
Came here early. Almost nobody in October. You can park at the end of the gravel road. You can also swim in the lake at the beginning of the road. At least 2 m deep.
We didn't spend long here cause of all the warning we got about our car... But the area is beautiful! First you see an emerald lake on your left, it's worth a little pit stop, then when you get there, there's a beautiful little waterfall but keep going a few metres to the bigger one. So lovely and warm, but I did notice some small red worms throughout the water... Not sure if there okay or not so I jumped out anyways haha. But definitely worth going to!
Hot water pools in the nature, really relaxing. Some more facilities would be good (one toilet and plenty of people).
Beautiful but stinky creek just out from Rotorua. Good hot water pools for a rainy day.
Really nice creek for swimming in.
You can take a hot bath under a bridge for free! Great experience.
Kerosene Creek was a great place to try the hot pools out for free. Long gravel road to get there which was a bit annoying. Pools were enjoyable but heed everyone else's warnings... You will get broken into!! We took all our our important items (passports, money, camera, etc) out of the camper and locked it but the rotten thieves broke the lock on the drivers side door and stole a toiletries bag of all things. Locals later told us they don't know why people go there because you are almost guaranteed to get broken into.
Beautiful and warm, a bit smelly.
Hot stream/pool with small waterfall! Amazing especially during cold months.

Best hot pools, totally free and wild. In the middle of the forest with waterfalls that are a massage to your body.
We really enjoyed Kerosene Creek. It is a free hot spring that you do not have to walk far to, but do be aware it is very hot! It is a nice place as well.
Nice hot springs on the way from Rotorua to Taupo. Free and lots of room for people. Just make sure you lock your vehicle!
Spectacular! Nice, warm, beautiful, clean place. Put mud from the well on your body and relax!
Absolutely amazing experience. Thermal creek, small pools, beautiful nature. Free for all.

Not exactly my cup of tea but the missus seemed to enjoy it. The water had chunks of black goo in it even though the water seemed pretty clean. Expect a crowd, and a big one at that. We had to slither our way though a lot of people before finding a spot to cook in for a while.
Still a nice and unique experience.
Amazing place and due to the weather was very quiet.
So nice and warm and refreshing.
There were blackberries in bushes surrounding creek which was cool also.
A great place for a picnic.
Oh and also TAKE OFF YOUR SILVER JEWELLERY due to sulphur it goes black and gross and then needs a lot of silver polish.

A great place to enjoy a hot swim in this pool in the middle of a burning hot stream. Access by the carpark or by a walking track starting more North on State Highway 5.
Hot spring in the forest, great to take a walk and then regenerate in the flowing hot water.
If you go early you will have the water for yourself.
Hot water spring, perfect to swim, felt like a bath at home.
Natural hot springs, lovely little creek, very nice to chill out after a day walk.
Awesome hot water waterfall down a cobbled road, great when not busy.
Very pretty area, the stream and waterfall look lush and fresh, but is bloody hot!! To hot for me!!
Romina De Hill
Nice and unique experience, the water is too hot to stay too long but it was nice.
Free hotwater spring, park on roadside, short walk to the spring, awesome place to relax.
Good spot, difficult to find it, we were happy that there is something for free! Everything around expensive and touristic too much. Warm creek for swimming perfect. But more bins for rubbish will see less mess around.
Hot river, 40degrees, AWESOME.
HOOOOOT - So good!!
Amazing experience. A bit smelly and can be busy.
Remote hot water spring. Beautiful location. Never to be forgotten swimming in very hot water pool.
A hot running river and waterfall. Great on a cold day but a pity there are no facilities, litter is an issue and it can get very busy.
Just relax in the hot river.
Free hotsprings outside Rotorua. It is really hot-awesome.
Nice place for those who like hot pools. It's really amazing how hot the stream is.
Chill out in a natural river for free.
A free hot water RIVER!! You can have a lovely swim there and enjoy the hot water or maybe get a massage from one of the small waterfalls.
It is a hot water river you can take a bath in. The best time to visit the river is in spring because the air isn't so hot then. It is a lovely place.
It is awesome at night with the full moon and candles. The road was closed so it was a moonwalk 2km to the creek. Sunday night, no one else at that late time.
Nice spot, but make sure you don't get the water in your mouth, or nose. It's full of bacteria.
Good for a soak though.

Free hot springs in the North Island.
Incredible!!! I'm much more used to constructed pools that get stirred up with muck and sediment, this didn't have that problem! Water was perfect temperature, but I do wish it was a chillier day to truly enjoy.
All the talk of vehicle break-ins had me nervous, so we brought our wallets and such with us. No bother, as the car was untouched. I do see how it could be a problem, as it is an opportune area for the like.
We visited when the road's gate was locked due to fire danger. The 2km walk must have kept the crowds away, as we enjoyed the creek to ourselves!
Great spot, but can get pretty popular

How cool is a hot river? Very! Getting too commercial now though.
Nice place to relax.
Brilliant hot water stream to stop off at when travelling south of Rotorua.
Natural free springs which blew us away. Great environment and was so natural, bit cramped in summer though.
Hot water stream/pool on Rotorua/Taupo Road. Busier than it used to be but still a great free soak - do lock your car!!
Great experience bathing in a small stream below a waterfall where the water is hotter than a bath.
Hot water creek where you can take a bath of your own.
The creek is hot and it is the best bath in my life (by the falls).
Remy van Heugten
Just off the road, left just before Wai-o-Tapu, there is a gravel road. A two minute walk takes you to a warm, 42 degrees river!!! It is smelly but very relaxing!!
Lilja Bjork Hermannsdottir
A warm water river just before Wai-o-Tapu. It is for free and in the middle of the forest. Got the tip from a local up Paihia. Very lovely and beautiful place. A peace up in the north. Come to NZ! People and nature are unique!
Just perfect. 150m from the car park and a completely natural hot water stream and waterfall. Get under the edge of the falls and a free Aix massage! Only complaint was the rubbish left by less conscientious locals, which a fellow bather picked up & dumped a black sac full of in the car park bin. We went back again early next morning and had the pools all to ourselves.
Johanna & Mark
A hot river where you can relax in the water. Perfect on cold days!
Coming from Rotorua, follow the SH5 direction Taupo, turn left on the Old Wai-o-Tapu Road. A hot pool in the nature, for free. Great!!
Free swimming in a hot tap by nature.
Nice spot for a hot pool.
If you have independent wheels and can find this amazing free hot spring, it is well-worth a visit! Untouched beauty and a few main pools of varying degrees of heat provide just a spectacular, totally relaxing, quite safe place to melt away the stresses of travelling. Be careful not to put your head under, but there are no snakes in NZ and no nibbling biters to worry about as you climb in to enjoy. Good year round!
Little stinky creek ~35 degrees. Advice don't wear your favourite swimsuit, it will stink for days. Nice little place to relax.
Hot stream (up to 40 degrees c). no mud but some dangerous bacteria so DON'T dive, waterfall (you might jump down), need own transport!
Good natural hot spring. Pool is comfortable with sandy bottom and a small waterfall. Temperature is a bit too low at around 30°C.
Excellent free spring like a spa set in bush.
Good access for it, near road. Nice river to relax in hot water.
Hot pools relaxing
Awesome hot pools.
Natural hot water river with mini waterfall - perfect for bathing/picnic's generally relaxing. great photo's.
excellenet little hot water stream to take a dip. not well known about so will probably be all alone.
A free hot spring you can swim/relax in. But it's hot! Many people have discovered it, so it can be crowded.
Free hot spring in waterfall + pool
Amazing thermal dip - FREE
