It’s a nice spot, quite scenic, and you can find your own site for privacy in either sunny or shaded spots. Flushing toilets were clean and loo paper was provided. The stream running by is scenic and convenient for gathering water.
Unfortunately my quest for solitude and communing peacefully with nature, enjoying the gurgling stream and birdsong, coincided with the arrival of a group comprised of around 5 families who spent their time playing loud music and loudly reprimanding their children.
Rules are only of use if they’re enforced, and it would have been to see a DOC officer doing the rounds and getting people to quite. Sadly they spoiled it for the others, and I cut my stay short.
A place of tranquility and beauty beside the stream, lots of grass and shade, uncrowded. 4 min walk south down the road to a great swimming hole. We were very lucky to have a concert violinist staying nearby practicing before a tour, strains of Handel wafting through the trees. Can hitchhike up to the parking lot for walks. A lovely spot. Thanks you DOC!
We are from Macau China. I think it's the best camp site in the valley! Lots of space. Flush toilet, clean , close, and no smell. The lovely creek is right behind our tent. Listening to the water and bird sing while sleeping is such a treat to life. $8 per adult and $4 for children, great value! Unfortunately we planned just one night due to lack of time. Would definitely come back again.

Terrible gravel road. Dirty toilets. $10 per person for nearly nothing.
Super nice location, about halfway between the DOC office and the end of the road. This site has flush toilets which are very clean and lots of shady spots to camp under. Also a smalll stream runs right by the camp so is great for a wash or to get water from. From what I heard from people who camp here often, this is the nicest camping spot of the lot.
Nice back to nature campsite, fireplaces, flush toilets, quite, enjoyed our Easter here 2012.

Stayed at Whangaiterenga campsite and it was excellent. A bit of an adventure getting there up a windy gravel road. Basic toilet facilities and close to the stream that you can swim in. Plenty of walks nearby.
Secluded. Lots of mosquitos so make sure to bring bug spray. Picnic tables and BBQ's. Checked out the other campsites in the area and decided to stay here again for our second night as it has lots of trees/privacy (the others were quite open).
Honesty box system. Very good value for what you pay.
