Absolutely atrocious. Old man walked in on me and my girlfriend making love even though our door was locked, said she was 'hot and had 'great tits'. After we told him to go away and not talk to us like that, he yelled at us to leave.

NOTE: This is no longer used as a camping site for camper vans. Went to enquire, spoke to the 'grumpy old man' aforementioned, who told us they no longer did camper van spaces.

It says no "large vehicle access" so I emailed ahead asking if a 2 berth ford transit was ok. Reply said fine but the drive and car park were tight and with low electrical cables - definitely not suitable for anything larger than a freedom camper people mover size. On top of this a grumpy old man running the place told me after I parked that I couldn't stay as my van was too big (clearly not the same person who answers the emails). Many of the reviews on here refer to the same grumpy service issues. I wouldn't recommend this - particularly for the price. It's ok as a backpackers but definitely not good as a campsite
You can park in the carpark in the back of the motel and use their facilities. Unpowered $18per person. Which is pretty expensive, but it is also not too far from the centre, so what would you expect. There is a well-equipped, but a bit dirty kitchen and we had hot showers. Some people were creepy, others were nice. It is not a great pleasure to stay, but it's okay for sleeping there, we have no reason to complain.

We stayed there with our camper van. We had to stay in the car park, which is on a hill. The place is a bit creepy with creepy and unfriendly people. The showers where cold. We payed $17 per person for a night in the car park. The only good thing was the location!
If you are planning on sleeping in your vehicle, don't come to this lodge under any circumstances whatsoever. I went there and paid ($15) and after only 15 minutes I changed my mind but the manager wouldn't let me have a refund even though I hadn't used any of the facilities. I needed to sleep in my car and I was parking at the carpark, felt like sleeping in the middle of the street. Lots of really weird looking men and women walking around, living in the cheap rooms in the lodge.
Kitchen is small and of average cleanliness. Showers and bathrooms ok...
We paid $30 for 2 persons without power. Really not worth it. We had to put the camper on a parking area and it was not flat at all. You can use the facilities from the hostel where almost only locals live. I gave a 2 for the location which is in the centre of town.
After reading all the bad reviews I was really scared to stay here! We parked outside and slept on the car, but I used the kitchen, toilets, lounge facilities! It was ok!
The toilets were very clean, on the other side the kitchen doesn't has anything available besides pots. However the lounge with TV was nice, as well as there were lots of magazines and a piano you could play! The eating area is very big. Location is also very good, in 15min walking you are in the Te Papa area. It is true that many people live here, who look like homeless people, this doesn't mean this is a bad place to stay!
Cost 15$ p.p. to sleep in the parking area. You could also put up a tent. (January 2015)
