Was absolutely amazing small and quite nice family friendly place. Has very nice toilets and shower block and two little kitchen areas that has everything ya really need. Lots of streams and waterholes to go to in walking distance. Would definitely recommend and will 100% be going back.

Lovely quiet little campsite 10 mins inland off the main coastal road through Tapu.
Beautiful spot next to the river,
Very clean and tidy facilities (showers and toilets, didnt check out the kitchen), & friendly helpful owner.
We paid $35 for a powered site 2 adults, a child and a dog in June 2020.

We (3 people with a tent) arrived on new years eve without reservation and with little hope as every camping area nearby was full but the owners and fellow campers were absolutely lovely and squeezed us in! They even made pizza for everyone in their very own pizza oven!
Went for a swimm in the creek right next to camping, a lively place that we will come back to if we are ever back in nz, we love Tapu creek :)Two toilets and a hot shower for free, covered Picknick area and fridge to use!

Stayed one night here. Such a nice place next to a creek. The powered spots around the outside have more privacy and are $15 pp and the inside area $10pp. We actually went for the powered spot even though we didn’t need the power supply. Would highly recommend to anyone! Will be coming back!

Great place directly at a beautiful river. Very quiet spot to relax and stay. 10nzd/PP unpowered, 15nzd powered site/PP. There's also a washing machine (2nzd) and a fridge where you can put your things during your stay. Spotless clean facilities, free shower and open air cooking facilities. In top: The owners are really nice and helpful and you can buy for little Money their own produced veggies. Perfect place 😊

This was a beautiful site, a bit off the main road and a bit tight for larger motorhomes. But worth the manoeuvring. The amenities were great, but take a torch the walk to them at night is very dark.

Stumbled upon this beautiful spot, right on the creek. Quiet, great ammenitites and a super friendly host. My only regret is we didn't stay longer. The stream was refreshing and sleeping with the sound of running water and wildlife was relaxing. Definitely recommend this little treasure on the hillside 😍

Bathrooms are awesome! Clean and modern, the campsite is good too with an outdoor kitchen. Only downside is a limited amount of space for unpowered so we parked quite close together but at $10pp we have no complaints at all :)

super friendly owner. Laid back and chatted a little bit with us to get us familiar with NZ, as it was our first camping to stay. Felt super safe! Not many spots, but also very quiet, so more then enough room. Surroundings are GORGEOUS!! Great location and campground, would strongly recommend and would definitely stay again!

We like this lovely small Park very much. The owners are extrem friendly and kind. We also like the surrounding nature, the park is next to a picturesque little stream and between tree covered mountains. So you can have a swim and also do a lot of hikes. The best thing was the pizza oven made of stone. We enjoyed it one night with delicious pizza and a warm fire. Everything of this just for 16 NZD pp. Highly recommended!

This is a small campsite, which isn't that expensive at $26 for 2 persons on an unpowered site (Nov 15). We used the Rankers App and according to the reviews this would be the best campsite during our 4 weeks travel around NZ. It was our last campsite as well, so the best for last. Unfortunately it was a bit of a disappointment, maybe also due to the weather we couldn't fully enjoy the location, but there were only 2 showers and 2 sinks (1 men and 1 women). The kitchen was open, which is ok but there was only one spot to do the cooking or the dishes. You could use the pizza oven or BBQ as well. Although the App showed this campsite in the range between $10-20 per person it was one of the cheapest but definitely not the best that we have seen.

Looks like a nice small camping ground. We stayed here one night as the only mobile guests. Nzd 16 pp is a bit too much. Basically we paid that for some electricity and water only. They have an outdoor kitchen but at our visit it didn't have running water.
Each camping location is approved by a regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.

Lovely campervan park, really well laid out, many attention to details. Great showers (except the curtains I would say).
Laid back owners. They told us it's very crowded in the summer so book it.
It was perfect after the hard (but rewarding) costal drive from Coromandel.

The location is fabulous, away from the highway, nice little river, swimming hole and spacious sites for your campervan. However cleanliness was ok but not fantastic, there is no fresh water supply, you have to boil your water before drinking. The kitchen is an outdoor, open facility, with just cold water and two single cooking units on a gas bottle.
Washing machine was crooked and there was no dryer, which, with cold nights and in shoulder season means, leaving the place with wet laundry.
The most unhygienic thing however where the dogs wandering around, marking their territory! With a 20 month old son, exploring the campsite, still unstable on his feet, this means washing dog pee from his hands.
All in all a slight disappointment, relying on all the previous reviews.

If you're looking for a place where you wake up to the sound of cicadas and spend a quite evening listening the crickets, or even have a swim in the river, then go for Tapu Creek Campervan Park, spend a few days here and enjoyed the area a lot.
Loads of things to do and see around the park.
Plus, Rachel and Yannick will do everything to ensure you enjoy your stay!If you're near Thames and look for a place to stay, then I can't recommend you strongly enough to go to Tapu Creek Campervan Park.

If you like quiet DoC campgrounds, you'll probably like this one as well. We stayed here for two nights. It's an amazing little campground next to a river with a swimming hole. Much better than the massive campgrounds next to the sea. The family bathroom wasn't cleaned in a while and the owner's dog was walking around without a leash, so not a 10.

Wet, rainy and dark when we arrived so our rating may be tainted. The toilets and showers were very clean.
We were excited about the pizza oven, even stopped by the store to pick up a frozen pizza. But the rain, dark and need to build a fire made that less exciting.
We visited many campervan parks during our trip and we realized that we prefer the doc camps and the local regional camps best.

If you want to enjoy beautiful nature right next to a nice and clear river just feel free to join this friendly park 5 minutes from the west coast of Coromandel.

We met extraordinary people. The welcome(reception) of the owners is exceptional. We felt as at the house.
The campsite(camping) is considerable completed, small and friendly. Bathrooms are very clean(appropriate) and there is even some hot water for the shower and it is true without supplement. When in the outside cooking(kitchen), she is very pleasant and thought well. Everything is available to cook and it is true in a friendly way.
Thank you again, we spent our last week at Yannick and Rachel and it was a real happiness. Their daughters are adorable. Sophie and our daughter Calie played a lot together. Sophie and Emily friendly shared their toys.
We advise(recommend) this magnificent friendly campsite(camping).

I have stayed at this place several times and have recommended it to my family and friends as well. I have found the owners and the facilties faultess. The park like grounds are amazing. Swimming or just soaking in the water hole on a hot day with a cold beverage is priceless. I am going to take my grand kids here this christmas where the park puts on movies in the park at dusk, Rubber duck races, lollie scramble and make your own pizzas to cook in the resident pizza oven. Thoroughly enjoy and and recommend this place. Plus I have met some fantastic people from all over the world here.

Tapu Creek, one word : AMAZING!!
It's a very nice place, next to the river, 5min to drive to go to the beach, fishing, mussel ( when the low tide of course ;) )
and the camp site is perfect, grass, flowers, trees, pizza oven, fridge, washing machine, it's not too big, and... I'm sure lot of backpacker should be happy to learn there is a hot shower! and you don't need to pay more for that!!
and it's not far to visit all the Coromandel, 20min to go to Thames, 40min to go to Coromandel town, and 1 hour and half to go to Cathedral Cove/ Hot pool beach!
Without forget hosts;;; Rachel and Yannick are awesome! all the time with the smile, they help you for everything, and they have two wonderful girls so cute!!Finaly Tapu creek is a best place to be!

What do you want to know about a Campervan/Camping park before you book?
Tapu Creek is a quiet, safe haven. It is only a short distance from Auckland. It is extremely well managed by THE most friendly family who are lucky enough to own it and yet still enjoy sharing their piece of paradise. It has a wonderful, fun river swimming hole in the backyard where you can also spend hours and hours looking for crystals (as the children call them). The PIZZA oven is to die for and the outdoor yet covered eating area is a lovely way to while away the late afternoon/evening hours chatting to friends and family with the birds singing in the background. The toilet/shower facilities are almost a luxury in this beautiful park. With amazing fishing opportunities just down the road; the park also has filleting and scaling area for you to use after you have shown your catch to the other jealous campers. There are of course delightful walks close by; like to the SQUARE kauri tree. Shops, 5 minutes down the road including takeaways and a dairy. If you are visiting New Zealand you MUST visit this lovely Campervan Park and if you live in NZ and you haven't stayed there you need your head read. JUST don't tell too many people or we might spoil this lovely little treasure.

We had a fantasitic stay at Tapu Creek Campervan park. Its a small site away from the main road with great views and a beautiful swimming stream. You can have a splash about right next to the campsite or wander up stream a bit to have a proper smim.
The facilities are perfect with an outdoor pizza oven, bbq and fire pit. The showers and toilets were also really nice, the best we've come across in our 6 weeks of travelling so far.
The owners went out of there way to make our stay comfortable, even bringing us firewood for the fire pit at night.
We've stayed in at least 30 campsites so far and I haven't felt inclined to write a review about any of them until now. All I can say is, great place and we can't wait to go back.
