We made a trip down south. We have stayed in most of the Holiday Parks. I must say that it's one of the best places to park your Motorhome. The staff is very warm and welcoming helping us with all our questions. They even gave us extra wifi. The park is really clean. Please make sure if you are in invercargill stop at this park. Nice and close into town.

Don’t risk here guys. Shower is 7.5 minutes kitchen with only half of the lights working. WiFi is only 500mb. Got kicked out in the middle of the night due to my generator as camp ground is really small. But I’ve asked for permission before I moved in.

Reviewed 8 months ago

Central City Camping Park - Invercargill responds:

First of all, you can't have a generator running all night. The neighbors complained to the police due to the sound. We did not kick you out we ask you to switch off the generator. You were the one that wanted to go and ask for a refund. We did refund you half back. And about the lights at the kitchen, there are two switches you need to on both to get all the lights on.

The place is perfectly okay, don‘t understand the negative reviews. The bathroom was clean, the 7,5 minute shower was hot (even too hot for me) and enough time. The kitchen is old but was clean and well equipped. You need a code for the kitchen if you want to use it before 9 a.m. and the sites were a bit small for a campervan. Powered site was 38 NZD

The facilities are the worst among all of the campsites I have been to stay at. There are about five or six stoves, but only one is functioning and not function really well.....they will lock the kitchen and living hall after 10.30pm, even the hot water supply will be turned off (and turn on at around 9am), they will check where are you staying at midnight, this is really really uncomfortable and disgusting.

Central City Camping Park - Invercargill responds:

Thanks for your review. We close the kitchen and Laundry at 10.30 pm. But we do keep it open longer on request. Our toilets and showers are open 24 hours a day. we do not turn off the hot showers. You just need to use the code to get the hot showers.

Looks really dodgy from the street but not too bad when in. The over complicated showers were unnecessary and just annoying to be honest. The prices were wrong on rankers for kids but they honoured it anyway. Nothing special about it but cheaper than the nothing special Top 10 .

There's nothing too special about this campsite in terms of view or bonuses, but it is close to good restaurants in Invercargill and is clean and quiet. Fine bathrooms and common areas. We paid $37 for two in a powered campervan site and took advantage of free internet.

We had one night there. The camp is clean, toilets and showers and clean too. When you arrived you have one internet voucher 200mb only. Its the only camp which has wifi in Invercargill. The shower time is limited to 7.5 min. But you can have two and the code they gave you is ok to use twice or even more. The hot shower is real hot, which is great! The kitchen is nice but no cutlery inside, only pan, mug etc... it's open from 8 am to 9.30 pm ! But even if they said it's in the center, you can't go by walking, it's around 20 min walking to reach the centre. Finally it's a good one but it's too expensive, you can have wifi with spark spot or at the information centre. We paid $34 for 2 with a van and I didn't really find the added value. Cheers.

Very warm welcome from the owner. Very clean but older-style amenities and camp kitchen. Good central location. Parked between two wizz bang campervans which was annoying early morning. I think $37 for powered site for two people a bit overpriced compared to some of the more touristy sites.

Lovely little site. We went for a pitched site and it was good value for money. The kitchen area was well looked after and equipped for campers who don't necessarily have pots and pans. Lovely and warm too on a cold night. Showers were hot, only last 7 minutes to save on water but there are lots of signs explaining this so no surprises. Would recommend this campsite.

We were a group of 17 who stayed for a week in September . We booked out most of the cabins. Our stay was marvelous, Wendy and Doug are great hosts and nothing was a problem for them. The kitchen was very well equipped, and the showers were always hot and powerful. The camp was spotlessly clean, and we would have no hesitation in staying there again.

We stayed at this camping park for 2 nights in May 2013. What makes this camp outstanding is the proximity to the city centre, the pristine clean abolution block and the fact it is small like a boutique camp. We took our camper to Bluff and parked up for the day and went to Stewart Island - then it was a 30 min drive back to the camp. STEWART ISLAND is not to be missed. Hosts are your typical southern awesome people

Hi Trish
Thanks for such a superb review. We're always pleased to hear people enjoy both what the south has to offer and their time at our Park. We like your description of 'boutique camp'; suits what we are aiming to achieve - a small quality individual city camping park strongly focused on meeting customers needs.
We agree, Stewart Island is superb.
Thanks again Trish

Hands down the best place to stay in Invercargill. Wendy & Doug are the sweetest couple you could hope to meet & made me feel right at home. If you like to keep to yourself, no problem, but they're always there if you need a chat!

Walking distance to everything the city has to offer, but tucked away just perfectly; I was in a tent & had no trouble drifting soundly off to sleep.

Facilities were excellent & always clean. Kitchen had everything I needed, and then some; I cooked better meals here than anywhere else!

Showers are easy-as & quite possibly the best in NZ, find it hard to fathom how one could struggle to use them.

Security measures were a welcome feature, without hindrance, and quite frankly to be expected (being so close to the city). Regarding the "constant light at night", it's nice to have a little illumination to walk around at night, you feel safe, and nothing a sleep mask won't solve (though I didn't even need one as it was that subtle).

I will never forget my stay, the kindness & hospitality I was shown, and whole-heartedly recommend Central City Camping Park - Invercargill.

Alex thank you very much for your comprehensive review and your superb rating of your stay with us. You have referred to many aspects of our daily operatons that we strive to ensure are of a very high standard thus it's great to know we met your expectations.

You set yourself some real challenges on your NZ travels and thus it was good that you took the time to 'recharge' your batteries when you reached us in southern NZ. Thank you too for your recommendation and sincere best wishes for the remainder of your travels.

The owners are friendly and welcoming, having a well stock reception on maps and attractions in the surrounding areas. They give out a map of the local area of attractions. The cabin is lovely and clean and contained extra pillows and blankets if needed, the amenities are extremely clean and well serviced 10/10 i recon (best place i stayed in on my road trip from Auckland and the price was really great (total value for money thanks). For bizarre instructions, this has to be the place to visit. the instructions on how to use the shower cover a side of A4, and if you are in doubt, watch out as you are on CCTV!

if you don't mind a gated facility and constant light at night, this could be the place for you. with such limited freedom camping in southland, it may have to be in anycase!!

Reviewed about 7 years ago

Central City Camping Park - Invercargill responds:

Hello William
I sincerely apologise for the delay in responding to. We were sorry to learn that you were not happy with various aspects of your stay with us.

We get a lot of positive feedback about our showers, e.g. people saying they're some of the best they've come across in NZ camping parks. Most people tell us they master them easily thus we're sorry you didn't find the same. To provide such good high pressure showers included in middle-of-the-road overnight rates, it's necessary to have some form of control or, as people often say to us they wouldn't want to get out of them! There's certainly no CCTV in the bathrooms.

All other feedback received regarding the keypad operated driveway gate at night has been positive with people appreciating the extra security. It is a simple process for guests to open it at any time.

The level of night lighting is something we are happy to adjust if necessary. Again most people comment positively relating to security. If anyone has a particular concern we are happy to discuss with people in the area and adjust it to suit.

We are one of 5 registered camping parks in the Invercargill area thus people do have a choice. We endeavour to ensure anyone who decides to stay in our Park has a comfortable stay. We're sorry this wasn't the case for you. We do hope you had more positive experiences during the remainder of your NZ travel.
Kind regards
Wendy & Doug
