Culverden is approx one hours drive north of Christchurch.
The sign to the Campsite comes up quickly, just after the 50km sign at the edge of town, enter through the stone gates. The domain is next to a huge rest area with toilets and an information board. The camping area is small and compact and facilities includes toilets and showers.
Please register and pick up keys to the amenities from Mockett Motors (Challenge Garage) opposite the gate entrance.

Great community campsite, very fair pricing and clean facilities. One of the best sites we have stayed in! Well worth it! Also have powered sites which are very reasonable.
Save up to 70% on campsite fees! Support conservation and experience the natural beauty of NZ. 78 Department of Conservation campsites, one convenient pass.
Found the site easy from Rankers directions the garage is now Challenge not Caltex but still the same owners. Facilities are basic but very clean there is even a cold water washing machine which is free no dryer so need to bring washing line. Nice easy short walk into town with a popular cafe serving great food and a few shops good for one night stops. We had a powered site for $20 for 2 adults.

The facilities are a bit old, and shared on certain days with a girl scout group, but they are quite sufficient. There is no camp sign or anything of the sort, but the campsite is all of the grass around the white building. All together, we enjoyed staying here!
Place and facilities are okay. Nothing special. Showers are $2.
Basic, but comfortable nonetheless. The guy let us stay for free, after telling us we were not parked on campgrounds initially.
Basic camp with only a small number of power points so probably better if you are self contained. Close to village so any shopping etc can be done there. Tidy and well looked after but can be a little noisy as close to main road.
Not too far from Hanmer so a good low cost alternative to staying in Hanmer that still allows you easy access to the sights of the area
OK for what you pay. The building and facilities are a little tired, reasonable sized kitchen, good showers but water pools on floor, free washing machine, toilet block a bit basic, power points limited to one small area. Close to town, lotsa of room for the kids to play but no playground. RTeasonably clean & tidy.
