Lovely, well cared for surroundings, excellent washing facilities, beautiful scenery, fabulous swimming holes. Even a kitchen and large seating area/ verandah that is completely screened against mozzies and sandflies. Can’t speak highly enough of this place which caters for all types of travellers.
Lovely place, everything you need. Friendly hosts, nearly perfect amenities, as someone else said, a shelf/rack in the shower would be nice.
Would not recommend if you are allergic to bees, there are hundreds if not thousands of them. They pretty much leave you alone, but if you knew you were allergic it would be terrifying.

This place is fantastic. As soon as we pulled in there was friendly wave and reassurance we would be given assistance soon. The site is large and gives everyone enough space. it sits on the edge of two lovely swimming spots by the river and also has books to read to pass the time. We felt instantly relaxed as we set up here.
Beautiful ground, clean facilities and friendly staff. Right on the river which is gorgeous and great kitchen and bathrooms etc. Quiet time of year so we were able to just pick a spot wherever we liked. Would definitely recommend
Very pretty campsite. The lovely fireplace made us forget all about the cold and rain outside!
Only negative is that I think that the showers could definitely do with a deep clean.
One of the most picturesque spots and the people are so welcoming and so is the cat, the facilities are superb and We will definitely be back.
Really nice place. Everything was clean, nice kitchen, warm fireplace and a lovely receptionist. Thanks for making us feel very welcome.

Lovely site, very helpful staff.
We had a problem starting our van in the morning, the lady working went out of her way to help. Eventually even gave us a tow so we could bump start our van.
I must add that we also had lots of help from a family that were on in site too.
The site itself is clean, tidy and very well kept. In a lovely area, right by the river. Good WiFi too.
Would definitely recommend.
Murchison Motorhome Park responds:
Was lovely to meet you! Sorry the bump start was a while in happening!
Beautiful place in the middle of nature. Well maintained and clean. Hot showeres, free Wifi, nice staff, everything you need provided.
The most beautiful site ever. Magical pools close by site clean and tidy through out outside and in, powered sites surround by bushes for each site. Grass cut, bushes trimmed looks so nice. Ladies very jolly and helpful.
For site thank you for cloths to stop wipe down little things but all help. To make it super tops a shelf in the shower for gels is so helpful, thankyou
Beautiful clean site with friendly staff and great service. Fresh produce from the veggie garden for a small donation. Right off the highway but good pitches and excellent value. The only thing to improve it would be a few more toilets and showers m.
Spotlessly clean, lots of space, 2 separate swimming areas in the river, hot showers, quick internet and most importantly, an area covered by bug mesh to get relief from the south island sandflys! If you're coming to murch stay here!
The camping is very beautiful indeed. With the river nearby and the natural pools to swim and refresh. Absolutely clean facilities and very peaceful. We had a worm welcome and everything would be perfect if on the next day the cleaning lady wouldn’t request us to leave in a rude tone and in not very friendly manner. Because we were finishing our breakfast shortly after 10am which is the time to check-out. During our travel in NZ we have never been requested to leave even if we stayed much longer than the check-out time. Not the best farewell we have experienced in NZ. Very disappointing in the end. Never will return to this place.
Murchison Motorhome Park responds:
Clearly ignoring the check out time is what you do regularly. Other campers were very respectful of the rules and we very much appreciate that as we work hard in the limited time we have to make sure the park is clean for the next lot of guests. It is never our intention to sound rude, but clearly you were just not bothering to make a effort to leave on time.
Probably the cleanest campsite amenities we have stayed at in three weeks so far across NZ.
Great swimming hole No 1 up the pathway.
Faircloughs, Auckland, NZ
Had a wonderful stay at Murchison Motorhome Park. We were made to feel very welcome - it is a home away from home. Very clean facilities with piped music throughout. We enjoyed the kitchen with its enclosed verandah to enjoy a meal and ward off any pesky insects! Often we found fresh fruit and veggies in the kitchen for us to use - a lovely thought. Beautiful setting and swimming hole for a cool dip onsite. Will come again!
Great place to stay, very friendly host and noce community kitchen.
What a great camping experience and lovely staff. Well worth a visit
One of the best sides we stopped on our trip.
The best camp we stayed in NZ. Beautiful, clean, and great facilities.
Definitely would come again!
Immaculate site, impeccable hosting, great value. Just 9k from Murchision, this is the place for a layover. The owner clearly takes great pride in her site and maintains it to a high standard. Has the coolest music I've heard in any NZ campsite shower block. All you need for a comfortable stay. And all for only $19!
Why would you? It's clean, tidy and well run by a very personable owner. And great value.
Why wouldn't you? You're not stopping in Murchison.
Mark-downs? Nothing to get picky about given the overall quality of the place and the value for money.
Would I return? Yes, absolutely.
Back again for a second time (since 2017). Still an awesome place! Great stay with a friendly host and clean amenities! Thank you!
Nice place and beautiful river. Facilities are very good and clean.
Perfect campsite and facilities, exceptionally clean and tidy, owner is very helpful and pleasant, grows her veg which you can purchase. Lovely river walk and swimming hole.
What a gem of a place, everything you’d need carefully thought out and resourced -even fresh veg and eggs! Especially good on this occasion as there are only a few bumblebees- unlike a few years ago when there was a plague!!
Best site. Karen showed us around all the facilities. Very peaceful. Super clean kitchen, toilets.
Can't fault it.
Brian and Leanne (Wales)
Nice little place, very quiet (Nov). Variety of campsites on grass and gravel, choose gravel when it's wet!
One of the best holiday park that I've seen in the south island ! I went there during my bike trip and booked a cabin for 2 nights. It's totally in the middle of nowhere perfect to have a good rest ! All the facilities are brand new : shower, kitchen, beds.. everything is Clean, Excellent quality and easy to use.
+1 for the fresh eggs and vegies that you can get there !
This was the best park we stayed in on the South Island. The facilities were great and clean. The kitchen well equiped and with a fire. Our hostess was very helpful. There were fresh herbs to use and the gardens were beautiful. Our adult daughter had had enough of sleeping in the van and hired a little cabin for the night which she said was very comfortable. We would definitely recommend this park.
Ideal stopover for campervans. Well set out. Great facilities, warm welcome and well cared for. Beautiful river.
Beautiful setting, clean facilities, great value for money and walking down to the river is a must. Freedom to choose your own camper site was great.
Loved my stay here, favourite place during my trip. Powered sites are close to amenities but still private enough with hedges between and wooden outdoor tables at most. The amenities were excellent, wood fired heater inside the fully equipped kitchen to keep cozy, lovely outdoor but enclosed tables, small charge for washer and dryer, lovely owner. If you get time go for a stroll down the back and check out the river! The rocklined river is gorgeous and worth the sandfly bite or two. Overall would highly recommend!
This a really lovely site next to the river with some lovely views. We were booked in for 2 nights but only stayed for 1 as unfortunately there was a bee infestation which meant we could not sit outside and unfortunately being stung several times whilst collecting the washing of the line.
Very nice, very clean. Full recommendation!
We really enjoyed our overnight stay. The owner is very friendly. The facilities are clean and looked new. Our boys also had lots of fun playing with the resident Border Collie. :) We can highly recommend this campsite as a sleepover.
The bugs, argh the bugs! I’m sure it’s just the time of year and/or this part of the country but dive bombing bumble bees and sandflies do get frustrating. However they do have a meshed-in porch off the kitchen for bug free dining. Bugs aside, the facilities are wonderful, as are the hosts. Lots of room to pitch your tent and level private sections for campervans.
This was the best Park we stayed in on North or South Island. Location is stunning and staff and facilities top notch. It’s not in town (which is why it’s so nice) but only a short drive away you can find really good dinner and a phenomenal breakfast (try the banana and bacon pancake stack) at the Rivers Cafe.
Joanna du Toit
Buy your vegetables from her garden. They were delectable! Friendly, warm and helpful service. Same price for powered and unpowered sites. Large area to camp but limited shade from trees. Good kitchen facilities. Bathroom would benefit from a bit more ventilation. Showers are on a 7-min timer but it is free. Dip in the river was an experience to remember (especially fighting those sandflies on the way back).
As good as it gets! Very clean and all of the needed facilities were there. This was our first camping since the pick-up of our motorhome in Christchurch on our way to Abel Tasman. The detour due to the earthquake highway works drove us through this place and it was perfect. A shame to have this as a basic :)
We stayed at this great park last night as a halfway spot between Blenheim and Hamner Springs. Super clean amenities, great host, stunning location. Thoroughly recommend. Thanks for the laughs Karen!
By far the best place we have stayed on our trip so far! The lady who served us was super friendly and welcoming. The grounds are beautiful, facilities clean and new, nice level powered sites and we felt totally safe here. I wish all camp sites were like this. It’s a great halfway point between the north and West Coast, highly recommend!
One of our favourite powered sites during our South Island trip. Karen was welcoming and was informative (of the places we were thinking of heading to next), and showed us around the site and was thoughtful enough to give us the code for the disabled toilet for our littlies and chose a site that was right next to the footpath - so no walking on wet grass! Loved the BBQ, the cooking equipment/utensils, teatowels(!) and drying racks(!!) available in the common amenities block. The toilets were clean and colourful - the girls came back remarking that there was music in the toilets and the color in the block. Lovely walk down to the river and amazingly peaceful! Will definitely stay here again if we are in the Murchison area. Thanks Karen!
I could not be more happy with my stay at Murchison. The hosts were friendly but unobtrusive and the park was clean, well appointed and homely. The facilities were spotless and the lovely owner even looked after my kayak on a day when I was city bound. I will certainly be coming again and staying right here beside the Buller River is what cn only be described as paradise. Well recommended!!!!
What a beautiful campsite! Facilities are very clean and welcoming with fire going in the kitchen. There is a river where in summer you can go swimming. Karen, the owner, is lovely with great advice about places to see and visit.
After 1.5 weeks in NZ we can confirm it's a good place to be. We have arrived around 6pm. It was not crowded. Luckily no sandflies either. Very friendly host, nice and tidy kitchen & bathroom. In the kitchen/TV room there is a nice fire place for cold days. The camper sites are kind of private cause separation by hedges/bush. We fully can recommend this camp site.
We just completed a 3 week camping trip on the south island of New Zealand. Murchison Motor Park was THE BEST campground we stayed in. Everything was perfect, from the private sites, to the shared herbs and veges, to the walk by the river. Their community kitchen was nicely supplied and everything was spotless. Wonderful bathrooms and showers. I highly recommend staying here if you are in the area!
This is not in Murchison, so don't give up hope if you are coming from the west! Friendly welcome, nice pitches with lovely views. Immaculate facilities. Not troubled by sandflies or wasps whilst we were there. A very relaxing experience.
Much better than the Riverside in Murchison - friendly people, nice layout, quieter.
A powered site for 2 people costs $34. Friendly and clean campground. Enough showers and toilets. According to note, the shower only runs for 7 minutes. We felt much shorter (more 3 minutes). Good cost / benefit ratio.
Great atmosphere, a real sense of community here. Really nice views. Camp manager was very kind. Well equipped kitchen, good and clean bathrooms although there were only 2 showers available (the only reason it's not a 10). Facilities to do laundry as well!
A superb campsite and really well run. All the facilities are keep really clean and lots of hot water from a log burner for showers and washing up. They sell fresh eggs and some home grown veggies too. Right next to the Buller River it's a beautiful campground but do be aware there are a few sand flies but they're all over this area. Great kitchen facilities and a hot water dispenser is available to make hot drinks, a nice touch. Enjoyed it so much we stayed another night. Stayed 28/12/16
Richard and Anne Amphlett
We stayed overnight 18th May in our motorhome in this lovely new and well-planned park. We loved the location right beside the Buller River, and next to cow paddocks, and we were welcomed warmly by the friendly owner Karen.
The facilities are very well designed, spacious, with modern bright colours, and even under-floor heating! We had a wonderful relaxing evening in the kitchen/dining/lounge area, sitting by the slow-combustion fire chatting with Karen and other guests.
We will certainly be back here on future trips. 10/10!!!
It was a perfect place to stay to see Nelson Lake National Park! The lady was so nice, explained everything to us and even gave us some toast bread the next morning because we forgot to buy breakfast. Thank you so much!
Very nice Park and Owner.
Beautiful Gardens. Free hot Showers.
Lovely fire in Kitchen area .
This was by far the best camp in our 5-weeks tour of the South Island. The site is beautiful, not very far from the road but it was not a problem. The amenities are great, the hostess is very friendly and helpful. Amazing place! A must!
Really clean and well working facilities. $5 for wifi - which I can't even find in the shared kitchen, although on the campsite it seems to be good - seems a bit much to me. Rest is fine. The fact that a powered and and unpowered site don't differ in pricing seems not really fair to me.
Our first experience of a New Zealand camping park in our hired motorhome. Beautiful spot beside the river and peaceful surroundings. Facilities were fine, just a bit further out from the town than we'd expected. Used it as a base to go white water rafting - epic!
It was a really nice place to stay. Friendly management, hot shower, kitchen utensils perfectly clean. It was awesome! And you can enjoy a great swimming at river.
Ines de la Griesbrei
Absolutely beautiful place. The most clean and modern facilities we have seen in New Zealand. Very friendly staff. Only $20 for a powered campsite for one adult, $34 for two adults in February.
Yet, one little drop of bitterness: You can't leave your doors open. I've never seen so many sandflies, wasps and bumblebees on a rainy day...
Jane Louise Stokes
Very friendly lady running it. Great kitchen but closing the kitchen at 9.30 means you can't make a hot drink before bed. The swimming hole was lovely but children do need supervising here. A great spot.
The utility was clean. Unfortunately it isn't very child friendly. The showers were one temperature which was hot - far too hot to get a child to stand under, and they are on a timer. You get your child clean / scaled then apply shampoo and shower gel only for them to turn off. They then refuse to turn back on again so you have to try and get yourself (soapy and naked) and your child into another shower just to finish off.
There are very few trees or shrubs so there is little shade. The site is on the road which you can hear but isn't too busy.
We were unlucky with thousands of bumble bees - not the sites fault they are prolific in the area for 6 weeks a year apparently. Felt like staying in a bee hive with all the buzzing!! - no reflection on the site at all they were everywhere. We stayed in February. Great site but the showers really let it down for me.
My husband and I stayed at this holiday park two nights and loved it! Great free showers, clean facilities, fantastic kitchen, super nice owners! Not to mention the location is gorgeous!
Excellent location, friendly reception, fresh eggs, kale, lettuce. Facilities 5 star and you chose own site. Helpful re: booking jet boat. Would come back especially if not raining.
Very nice and peaceful place. Had a nice swim in the river. Everything is new and well kept. Home grown vegetables and eggs are sold at the office. Worth a stop!
GREAT! Facilities brand new and super clean, very friendly staff, beautiful environment. Best place to start your Buller River adventure-day! Fresh vegetables to buy, possibilities to play boules, cricket and giant-outdoor draughts (I guess draughts is the english name for that game). Comparatively low priced.
Facilities are outstanding and well maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful. The setting is exquisite, nestled between the river and the mountains. Plenty of space. This was an especially good stop with a baby.
Scott and Angela
A great place to stay a while. Very friendly and welcoming owners, clean and fresh facilities and plenty of space to choose from to set up camp.
Lovely quiet site, although near the main road so if you're here during the day traffic noise can be off-putting. Facilities are great, Wifi 1gb for $5, and it's fast too. Owners very friendly. The only downside for me were the number of bees around the place. Lots of flowering plants have been put down but this seems to have attracted the bees. We may have just come at a bad time of year, but it did mean that we had to keep the windows shut!
David From Switzerland
Excellent place to stay, facillities brand new, nice walks at the nearby river, friendly owner. Wifi $5 1GB and we paid $34 for a powered site.
Excellent warm welcome by Annie who directed us to choose our own pitch from the many available (October 2015). Spotless facilities and very comfortable and functional kitchen/lounge to prepare meals, chat to fellow travellers and relax by the log fire. Great for an overnight break or longer stay with 360 degree views and river walks.
Yann Le Gac
$18 per person for a powered site. Showers and toilets are good and extremely clean. Quiet night. Very friendly welcome. The owner waited for me till 7:30 pm as I was late due to the bad weather. Wifi available at $5 for 1.5 Gb.
We are staying here now the second time. And it is still a very beautiful campsite. The river is close and the facilities are amazing.
New facilities, clean and pleasant to use. Good tent sites. Reasonable price ($16 for one cyclist) and a friendly host. Great swimming hole.
The best camp site we stayed at in New Zealand in 2015 after 4 weeks traveling.
A site with complete and new facilities and a warm welcome.
We can fully recommend it.
Dieter & Lydia Schmees
Yes, this campground gets 10 of 10. Very clean, nice location at a scenic place.
We just loved this spot and wished we were staying longer. Karen was so welcoming and interesting to get to know. The location is incredibly scenic and a great spot on the way to and from some of the major attractions in NZ. The facility is well-designed, super clean, well-equipped and cozy. We are so h apply that the wood stove was on as it was chilly when we visited...the common area was a perfect spot to hang out for a few hours with fellow travellers. Internet was a fair price for NZ and worked pretty well.
Excellent, small and nice place, sanitary are very clean (with music !), kitchen is warming (with a fire prepared in the morning), and the proprietary is very friendly. So it's really an amazing place.
A great stay at murchison motorhome park. The showers, toilets and kitchen have under floor heating and makes getting up for that early cup of tea worthwhile. Lovely open fire provides a cosy warm atmosphere and I love the community scarf knitting provided. Sites well spaced out property clean and tidy. I love the new addition of the new river walkway/cycle track which provides access to further swimming holes in summer and lovely walk any time of the day. Lots more on the horizon I'm told. Karen is friendly and helpful. A great stay. Will be back.
Nice view and very nice staff. Perfect equipment.
Great spot. Friendly and helpful. Clean and green.
Great site! Absolutely worth it but the shut down in deep of winter.
Great welcome by Karen when we arrived late, just before dark. Facilities are really good and well thought out for us campervanners. Especially the showers and kitchen area. Good value too at $25 for a powered site. Excellent location as well. Highly recommended.
Great clean site with modern large well equipped kitchen. Good size sites with easy access. Wonderful river swimming holes straight of the park. All facilities are modern and well maintained.
Nice new park, good spots and nice planting of trees/shrubs which in a few years will really give some privacy to camp spots. Good location to river, there is a nice swimming hole towards the back of the property.
Really nice amenties and for a very good price.
Nice and clean, modern comportable. Kitchen well equiped. Loved the Vegetable and herbs garden. Many bees when we were there. River 100 meter
Very nice and quiet park. Very friendly staff. Old tv room and hot showers
Lovely setting in a bowl surrounded by wooded mountains next to the Buller River. Large and well equipped amenities block with brand new showers. First taste of sandflies though!!
Lovely spot, clean toilet, friendly, helpful guy running the place, free.
Tom and Jemima Rawlings
Good kitchens, friendly, made an effort with chess set, golf clubs etc.
Anja and Katharina
Very nice welcome, good kitchen.
Only two years old - lovely ladies running this place. Lots of new planting will look good in a few years. We were there when not a lot of others around. Only ommission is a hairdryer.
Right in the middle of nowhere, very dirty in the night when all insects come in the bathrooms. Too many insects, camping outside no options.
Location fine with a few restaurants 10 minutes walk away. Facilities ok
New, very clean facilities and kitchen, friendly people, location not so good.
Small, new motorhome park. Excellent ammenities, kitchen fully equipped for cooking - nothing required except food. Large, fully enclosed lounge area with big TV. Out of town, and no other activities except a small walk. $30pp.
We camped here for nearly a week in January 2012 exploring the surrounding areas with kids in tow. What a great site! Wonderful and spotless new facilities and run by the fabulous, ever helpful and knowledgeable Karen. Highly recommended. Try the organic eggs for breakfast! Ed & Fi
What a great location.
Host was unbelievably friendly.
The Park had everything you could ask for.
The river was brilliant.
Highly recommend this Park.
Helen and Graham
Great facilities, nice sites.
Brand new park - lacked a bit of atmosphere, but that will come when the trees grow. Cozy log fire in kitchen/lounge area. Bathrooms were immaculate. Very welcoming and helpful host. Peaceful location, gently burbling of the river in the background. Nice.
Family van Hessem
Great site for quick stop for the night. Clean and NEW and quiet.
Alexis De Wilde
Very nice facility & people. River behind camp is fantastic.
