Awesome...ended up staying longer
Planned on staying one night here but liked it and the location so much we extended to two nights. Stayed on the east side in spot 43 which backed up to some cow pasture and the ocean beyond that. Less than a 5 minute walk to the park trailhead and cafe (which has great pizza and drinks). Showers and bathrooms were very nice and never had to wait more than a minute or two for one to open up. Laundry was a little difficult because one dryer was out of service and people kept beating us to it. Overall had an awesome stay and looking forward to coming back!
Our best stay in our 4 weeks across nz. We really felt at home here. We had an unpowered site that was spacious directly at the edge of the park. Situated at the park entrance you can start your walk into the park directly from there. They sold their own meat what was a nice surprise. They arranged us water taxi. Camp was full but atmosphere was great. Great holiday feeling!!!

Such a great holiday park. Awesome view, very good facilities plus ping pong, pool table, slack line, badminton. Worth to stay 2 + nights. Directly near national park entrance and nice restaurants nearby. Very nice and helpful staff 👍🏽👍🏽
Fantastic place! Right at the beginning of all the walking tracks, water taxi’s. Kayak places etc. The camp has good facilities, but we liked especially all the communal areas. Our favorite camping spot so far! Very green!
This is a lovely site and perfectly placed in the National Park. I nearly didn’t come here because of all the comments about how tightly packed in the camper vans are but I’m so glad we did. We have a powered site and I don’t think we are tightly packed in compared to the other sites we have visited so far.
The Barn has a lovely feel to it - lots of different people here exploring the park. The facilities are great and nicely spread out - very clean toilets and showers with plentiful hot water.
It’s definitely not the cheapest, but I think we have had value for our money.
My only quibble... the wifi allowance is pretty stingy!
Would highly recomend this place!! Ok, it's not cheap, 26pp but had clean and hot showers. Toilets were cleen too. Big kitchenarea to use. Playground for kids. Staff is very nice and helpful. Close to several costaltracks.
We absolutely loved the Barn for its vibe, facilities, location, set up etc. Maybe campervans could be a bit more spaced out bit this didn't bother us and it gets you talking to your neighbours, too. And it's not so big or at least doesn't feel like it, which was nice. Would defo recommend it and stay there again.

Everthing was very good! Nice place to stay with nice and helpfull staff!

One of the best camp grounds on our trip. Really stunning views of the gateway to the Able Tasman and good facilities (if a little busy). The office booked our water taxis and kayak hire and there is some free wifi included. Lots of teenage backpackers but we were more on the family side of the site and it was quiet both nights we stayed.
Nice place. Great atmosphere and very close to the national park. Nice view from campsite. Facilities were good and clean. Only disadvantage were the sandflies. Make sure you have repellent.
We paid $40 unpowered for 2 persons
I was not as in love with this campground as others were. What it has going for it is proximity to the trailhead for Abel Tasman hikers and clean facilities. They pack the campervans in next to each other on a grassy lot which greatly detracts from the camping experience. Also the internet worked only until my screen timed out while cooking; then, despite following their directions and leaving the browser open, I could not get back on.
Such a kick-ass campsite. Beautiful views and so close to the park. Beach walk is right in front of the camp grounds. They have a fully stocked kitchen as well as an outdoor kitchen which was great. Lots of bathrooms, hot water too. WiFi is for a limited time, which is fine cos you want to switch off! Friendly and nice staff, great vibe with fires and table tennis.
Very nice campground, even with ocean views depending on the space given to you. The owner/staff member at reception was very friendly. Toilets and showers were clean, showers also had hot water. The place even sells some food, beverages, and things like toothbrush and -paste in the reception building/office. Even free WiFi is available for free , at least a certain amount of data per. The price for the campground is also quite reasonable considering the facilities, location, and the general prices around Abel Tasman National Park. Would definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful location. Super helpful for booking activities and advice on what to do. Able to walk from the campsite round the bay and into the national park - stunning costal walk. Good location with pub and burger place nearby.
Showers and toilets really nice and new. Cooking and eating facilities were great. Pots, pans etc. free to use. Open fire in the cooking area kept it warm on cool nights. Great atmosphere around camp with plenty of backpackers coming through. Really good value for what we got.
We had a powered site but the on-site facilities were really good too. Great spot at the bottom of the mountains and at the start of the Abel Tasman track. Really beautiful! It was super quiet and chilled but also a lot of backpackers so good vibes in the share areas.
Didn't really like it here but that was also because of the bad weather. Cold wet windy. Powered vans too close to each other. Facilities great, view great.
Very hippy style, in a positive sense. We biked there, staff are super friendly and helpful. Kitchen is well equipped. People nice. Highly recommended.
Excellent location and cheap for the amazing facilities! Loads of kitchens and bathrooms, a chill out area with dvds, unlimited hot showers and friendly staff. Well worth the $14 each for an unpowered site. Wifi is $5 extra but showers and free. Has good laundry facility too $3 a load. Well worth staying here!
Loved the site! Rhonda, the lady in charge was very helpful and friendly, nothing too much for her when it came to suggesting and booking trips for us. As independent travellers, she tried to get us and another couple involved with the group who had come off the Stray Bus - said its all about making friends. So that was nice of her. Amazing views of the mountains and the sea - especially from the showers as they have a high window looking right out onto the beach! Showers all clean, free and hot. Outside area with chiminea and outside seating too as well as the barn with kitchen facilities. Fab trampoline too - had a few giggles on that. Just make sure you dump waste before rocking up as no dump station - closest in Motueka. Also stock up on food as in winter, Marahua nearly completely shuts down. Recommend the kayaking with MSK which Rhonda can book for you. Definitely a place to visit!
Cosy and charming campground with two kitchens each with fireplace. Very clean bathrooms, no extra costs for hot shower. Friendly staff. Nice view of Fisherman's Island. Campground right next to start of Abel Tasman Track.
Great steak sandwich!!
The facilities at The Barn are reasonable and the sunrise in the morning is amazing. However, the owner of The Barn and his wife seriously ruined our stay. A member of staff offered us two large blankets as the weather was cold outside and we were camping. Upon packing down our tent, the owner accused my fiancé and I of taking the blankets from indoors ourselves. I explained to him this wasn't the case but he continued to be aggressive and rude towards me. After packing down I went into reception and told the owner I had put the blankets back inside. He said he would 'clarify' my version of events with the member of staff later implying he did not believe me. His wife also was very rude to me as I went to buy some breakfast. She pretended not to hear my order and stared at me, as again she believed I had taken the blankets myself. Great staff working the site were seriously let down by poor owners.
We were triggered to go to The Barn because of the excellent location next to Abel Tasman NP, but feared queuing on toilets or showers reading some of the reviews on Rankers, but fortunately this wasn't true. To set things straight there are indeed two kitchen facilities that had both 2 showers and 2 toilets, but there is recently built a separate sanitary bloc with 6 more toilets and 4 additional showers (new and clean).
Issues on unfriendly staff can be confirmed. The owner is really friendly and eager to help anyone, but all the rest of the crew were unfriendly indeed.
Still, The Barn is an ideal campsite as base camp for exploring Abel Tasman NP.
Wonderful place, definitely worth the few dollars more ($40 2 person in a campervan). Nice fireplace, outdoor lounge, well equipped kitchen, new and clean facilities. Very comfy place to start the trip into the Abel Tasman.
Great location! Owners were not very friendly. Top location for the Coastal treks and close to the Park restaurant which has very nice pizza and other food. Also coffee to go. We stayed 2 nights here and had a very nice view. Sand flies are present. Clean toilets and showers.
Save up to 70% on campsite fees! Support conservation and experience the natural beauty of NZ. 78 Department of Conservation campsites, one convenient pass.
Clean new showers but no hair dryer. If you are into a bit of socialising, there is a main kitchen dining area where the younger crowd staying in the dorms hang but a tad noisy at night. Be warned that you can't get phone reception here and the paid wifi keeps dropping off. The other bad part about our park site was the crazy amount of flies. Courtesy of the estuary in front. Otherwise a really laid back place and great vibes.

Two nights stay in The Barn. The runners of the campsite were unfriendly, apparently more attracted by groups than independent travellers. Only three showers and two toilets for the campsite!! $44 for two people on a powered site. Good lanscape, free shower and paying WiFi.
The third time in my life I am visiting The Barn. 2002 and 2006 were good, but they improved a lot since that last time! Nice, clean showers and toilets and important in winter, a warm kitchen and space to eat.
The best place to walk the Coastal Track. Just start at the Barn and stop your hike at the same place.
Nice site, however some shower/toilet facilities better than others so often a queue for the better ones. Good vibe with nice social areas and great scenic location.
Nice one but expensive.
Nice setting and plenty of space. Good location for walking but a bit far from the beach and kayaking options unless you book on an organised tour where they will come and collect from the Barn.
Very good place for both family and young travellers. Good showers and toilets.
Brilliant location next to start of Abel Tasman National Park. Good, spacious sites. Excellent new showers & toilets. Restaurant 2 minutes from campsite is very good. Water taxis pick you up from the site.
A beautiful location; we got the generous pitch 24, which looks across the lake and easily accommodates a tent and a 4x4. Very few flies (we stayed end of Feb), great facilities - clean, hot showers and clean flush toilets and washing up area. Peaceful the evening we stayed. Staff less than friendly however, and shop shuts around 730pm. Other than that, a very good experience.
This campsite doesn't look great from the entrance area but go in.... Good toilet blocks, barbecue areas etc. powered sites have a nice outlook to the beginning of the Abel Tasman trek and out to sea. Much nicer campsite than the ones closer in to town. Staff a bit variable, one guy was delightful and the other very surly.
We only stayed one night but would have been happy to stay longer if time had permitted. Some very nice cabins available too.
Beautiful setting and views. Fab location for the Abel Tasman walks. Clean and good showers and toilets. Much more appealing than local bigger sites for us. The cafe/bar over the road is really nice too.
Lovely place next to the sea, very clean facilities, many young guests (backpackers), very quiet, not very communicative staff, nearest campground to the Tasman National Park
Nice flair, good location and view, kitchen and shower/toilets really good, staff is nice and friendly.
Good campsites with a nice kitchen where you can cook, watch movie, recharge your device and have access to the internet. A bit too expensive.
Location os campground is awesome, very friendly and helpful staff. From the camper we could view the bay of the Tasman Sea.
All facilities were clean and tidy. Besides a BBQ corner there was a huge kitchen and possibilities to hang around and enjoy the stay. We stayed two nights.
$20 camping, hot shower and good kitchen. Too expensive for a small piece of land for your car and tent.
Paid $20 per night very expensive for just camping. It is nice location has nice showers and a good kitchen.
Expensive, very clean, water from the tap smelled and tasted bad, facilities are very good.
Nice facilities but very expensive, $18 per person in a tent.
Nice staff, organic surrounding, herb garden, a lot of showers, good kitchen but no free internet, many insects and no mobile reception and no microwave!
Nice staff, nice place, old but very clean facilities, good price.
Good idea to rent tent sites on a backpacker.
Unfrendly Staff, no Powered Sites, no Dumping Station, perhaps good for Tents, but not for Campervans
Slightly strange place. Could do with more showers.
Nice sweet place, familiar.
Price OK, friendly staff, too less toilets, short walk to the beach, small area.
We slept in a 4 dorm tent. Nice to have real beds in here. Showers and toilets are a bit old. Staff are really nice.
Access savings worth hundreds of $$ on Top Ranked NZ Accommodation and Activities for just $1 per day.
Great Place! Good Prices! Cool cabins! But the facilities could be better. Very friendly stuff!
Poor facilities! Dirty showers and toilets. Friendly staff. Kitchen was all right. Atmospher was good!
The Barn Cabins & Camping responds:
Thank you for your review.
We are glad that you enjoyed the atmosphere at The Barn and that you found the staff to be friendly.
We are sorry that you found our facilities to be 'poor' as we work hard at The Barn to provide all the facilities you will need and to keep everything in good working order.
All our communal areas including the toilets, showers and kitchens are thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis. We also check throughout the day in case any of our guests have not left things as they would wish to find them.
As a result of your feedback we will endeavour to check more often
Helpful managers, nice place to camp, clean ammenities. Close to water taxi and walks.
Sanne Ta Stroete
Nice campsite with good but old facilities. friendly staff.
Mulder & vanNistelrooij
Very nice, good welcome, relaxed, clean showers etc.
Friendly staff, excellent facilities. Quiet and good location.
Very good location, facilities ok, too few powered sites, some more tables at site would be nice.
Nice laid back backpackers and campground. Good cooking facilities, internet, everything you need really in a great location.
Great views, great location.
Ann-Katrine & Sille
Nice place. So relaxed! Good for people in spaceships - it is cheaper for them ($12 paid).
Beautiful views! Bring warm clothes as it is cold at night!
$16pp for a tent and everything you need to cook and be clean.
Nice facilities, a bit crowded, very reasonably priced, outdoor bath very nice after tramping.
Pieter & Annelies
Our dream campsite to own!! Friendly staff, very clean, beautiful area. Love the bush baths (we have one at home). Only downside is the kitchens are a bit small. Big seated area around a fire in centre of campsite. Is brilliant for a sing song. Book in advance!!
Great location for trips to Abel Tasman NP, could have slightly better facilities. Number of showers and toilets for campers are limited.
Very cosy and relaxed.
Nice place, very spacious, facilities a bit old.
Plug sockets in rooms would be helpful, comfy beds, more showers and toilets closer to rooms needed.
Great lodges. Some more toilet and shower facilities would have been useful.
Quite expensive, but well equipped, nice outdoor fire place to warm yourself at night.
Excellent facilities, very noisy at night though.
Great atmosphere and location, plenty of facilities. More expensive than others, but due to location, worth the money.
Beautiful, green and quiet.
The huts are a bit small (especially the 4 person huts since they are just as big as the 2 person huts), but otherwise good. Only 3 showers and 2 toilets, a bit few. Kitchen is good.
Meg & Steve
A great friendly, laid-back site with nice indoor-outdoor facilities and a location you can't beat for visiting the park.
Nice atmosphere, nice big kitchen. warm and clean showers. Almost new cabins with really good matrasses.
Graeme + Jane Ryan
Great location, nice site, far less 'commercial' and no hard sell - v. welcoming, friendly and laid back.
Good accomodattion, clean, good facilities.
Small friendly campsite with great facilities. A great base for the Abel Tasman walk.
Green and clean, nice area.
Great scenery and facilities. Loved outside living area.
Excellent facilities. A few extra showers would be beneficial.
Great location + facilities.
Really helpful and friendly staff, great facilities, big outdoor lounge area. Camped at edge and woke with sun coming up over sea and start of the park.
Like the open air approach - with facilities, BBQs awesome + you can see the beach
Great location and facilities. Don't have to pay extra for hot water!!
Good place to stay for entry into Nat. Park
Friendly staff - good facilities (showers, kitchen equipment etc). Easy access to walking track + tour booking.
Very good , clean facilities, really nice people working here. Maybe a bit expensive just to camp.
Nice & peaceful - great facilities
Nice location, near so many scenic walks and Abel Tasman National Park - just watch our for the sandflies!
Really friendly staff and a great location! you even get beds in tents! Good value for money!
Clean facilities and friendly staff
Closest to NP
nice site with good facilities and wicked communal and chillout rooms.
Very good location, cross to Park entrance. Clean, tidy. friendly staff.
great location, very nice people, very quiet.
Closest campground to Able Tasman National Park. Large peaceful site.
Not enough facilities. No plugs in the sinks!
Bas van Schagen
Nice people, great environment.
wonderful, but a few more showers would be nice.
A really cool place with great tents and a good camp grounds.
Max Van der Zalm
Nice people, great location (start of Abel Tasman Park) and they can store luggage for free.
Jens van Evp
Don't let the sandflies put you down! This is an awesome place and great base for walks and adventures in and around Abel Tasman.
Really cool place. Have to bring all your own stuff to wash though.
Relaxed & Quirky. Basic but every thing you need is here, including company, fire & toilets
Pretty spacious, good kitchen, good base for Abel Tasman Walks
Nice place and location, but it lacks a lot of hospitality from the staffs side.
Nice staff, good price, showers could be better
Only $15 pr night. Lots of young folks and beautiful souroundings.
Great facilities but overpriced.
There are too few showers and toilets.
Quiet and nice place, friendly service and atmosphere, enough kitchen stuff/ 1-2 showers more would be nice
Aart Van Nooy
Perfect location, not too crowdy, clean, good price
Drive in sites, spacious, good amenities
Nice place but you have to pay for showers.
Backpackers and camping. Nice facilities in quiet and natural setting.
Close to the National park. Kind staff, everything is new. The cooking area could be better.
Great place to stay and friendly, helpful staff. Very genuine. Stay here!
Cute little place, lovely friendly people - sociable, nice to chill out for a few days - lovey beach nearby.
Beautiful place, kitchen has everything incl BBQ
Very little cabin, but right price. Very smiley staff. Useful facilities. Interesting place for young people. Next to the Abel Tasman track.
We stayed here for 5 nights and had a great time-there was lots of space between the tents, clean bathrooms and kitchens and friendly staff. If you're going to Abel Tasman this is a great spot-so close to the track, water taxis etc. The local bar/cafe is a 2 min walk and has a great atmosphere.
Lovely little place with friendly people. Best in the sunshine! Nice cabins and dorm rooms.
