Loved this spot, so quiet and fabulous star gazing. Intermittent cell phone coverage, you will need to ring the council for the access code out of hours, weekends when library closed.
Awesome beach, caves and views. Lots of space in winter. Basic clean kitchen, hot showers and toilets for $15 a night. Great value for money.
Affordable, rustic camping. $15 per night for a powered camping site. Pay at the library in town. Toilets, hot showers, kitchen facilities (oven, toasters, jugs & microwave) & nostalgic dining hall. Old, but perfectly functional.
Fantastic children's playground. Free gas bbq & two wildfire bbqs. Two interesting beaches.
Cave beach has caves to explore at low tide & a stream for the kiddies to play in. Long beach is calm & great for everyone.

$12 for two in camper. Basic amenities, seperate hot showers, oven, bring cutlery. Shared large pitch with 4 cars, couple long stays this June. Turn off in Waverley towards coast on sealed road, go left at the cattle-stop to wooden building. Don't forget to pay at library first! Well worth it, cheers Wave-town. No WIFI, who needs it this close to beach and caves.
Great spot, large grassy sites, no frills but basic amenities all there. Black sand beaches are a short walk, with caves to explore at low tide. We had high and constant winds but hedges provided some protection.
We stayed here for two nights before Christmas. The free camping site has a beautiful view over the beach and has awesome sunsets. The beach is an interesting walk with fossils from millions of years ago, petrified forests and caves. There is a free cold shower at the Reserve for after swimming. 10 stars.
This is a great site. We paid $12 for the both of us on a powered site. Although the facilities may not look like much they had great, hot, free showers and not a cold shower block when you got out the shower! Playground and free bbqs a short walk away, right near the beach. Lovely sunset. All grass pitches which could be worth bearing in mind if it has been raining.
Quite possibly my favorite campsite in NZ. We paid $12 for two people for a powered camper van site, which is on an honesty system by paying at the Library in town. The kitchen was nice for cooking our pasta in, bathrooms were fine, and the location next to a gorgeous black sand beach is great! This was a nice halfway point for us to stop off at for the night between Waitomo and Wellington. Highly recommended for being a great value!
Grassy area. $12 for a powered site. Showers included. Kitchen. Almost empty space. Pay fee at library. Perfect for the price!
This is a real gem of a campsite. The place we had to ourselves and we will return, basic but totally great.. Hot showers, good basic powered kitchen.. that is all you need.. A secret special location on the cliffs of Waipipi beach.
What a little gem of a site. Drove from Wellington and thanks to Rankers found this quiet, grassy site with power and basic facilities all for $12 a van. 9 km's off State Highway 3. Great to watch the sun setting over the sea. Toilets, showers and kitchen basic but all work. Saturday night end January and plenty of space.
A perfect place to stay for a family. Playground, huge grass areas, $12 per night (powered)! Facilities are basic, but absolutely okay. First enter Waverley, in town you have to do a turn left. Don't use the Lennox Road.
Even Waverley Village is perfect, tennis ground next to a huge playground for all ages.
Take care about the opening hours of the library (9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sat. till noon) Sunday closed!
A fantastic sheltered spot, 2 minutes walk from gorgeous Waverley beach, with its black sand and caves. The campground has well-established trees that provide adequate shelter from southerlies and easterlies. Lovely and quiet when we stayed during a weekend in September. Facilities were older but super tidy. The price is a bargain at $12 for a powered site. There is a playground for kids and BBQ facilities in the domain next door.
Perfect area. Nice place. Quite. Clean. Kitchen facilities. Hot shower for $1. Close to beach. Campervan sites. Energy. $13 per person.
Awesome powered campervan site! Remote, quiet, flat grass. (just 100 meters walk to the beach). And just $6pp!!!
Just $10 and all facilities, hot showers, kitchen, toilets, BBQ and just close to the beach. Not so much people - very great campsite.
Good, reasonably priced campground ($12 for powered site for the family). Great location by beautiful coastline, with children's playground on adjacent grassed area. Nice grassy site at end of road, so quiet. Facilities a bit tired but good hot showers

Good basic site in excellent quiet location by beautiful black sand beaches and cliffs, with play park. A few k off main road and no staff but clear instructions on how to pay (at friendly Waverley library or by post) and 24/7 number to phone for code for showers/toilets. Great value per unit $10 unpowered and $12 powered. Also free toilets and cold showers in concrete blockhouse nearer to beach.
[2 senior Scots, 4 week trip, mainly overnight stops, self-contained, Autumn]
Great playground, good hot showers, wonderful coast close by.
There are powered sites for $10 available with a kitchen and water and showers, but also a free area with toilets. It is the most beautiful beach next to the camp with amazing cliff formations.
We stayed at Waverley Beach camp sight for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. The camp sight was very quiet on the fri but got busy on the sat. We enjoyed it we stayed on a powered sight and at $12 it was a bargain. There was a large kitchen, toilets, and hot showers, but must admit that the shower and toilet block is in bad need of an update, shower head was fixed so if you are a short person you have to wait for the water to hit the wall and then hit you, lucky I am a taller person I got the water straight in my face. Lovely playground for the kids, and small walk down to the beach where I saw a seal hiding out in one of the caves, apparently there is a colony of them there. One real problem I had was where are the rubbish tins to put our rubbish!? Searched the camp ground and couldn't find one..
The site and facilities were clean and tidy and I enjoyed meeting all the happy campers.
Excellent campsite! Only 10$ pp, free hot showers, kitchen with hot plates, oven, fridge and a charging station. There is also a bbq and a great playground for kids. No washing-machine/microwave.
Facilities are a bit old but they are very well-maintained and very clean.
The beach is 1 min from the campsite and is fantastic. it is a big blacksand beach with impressive natural caves.
Note: fees must be paid at the waverley library (in the waverley village, not at the campground). Facilities are locked by a pin code that you will get after you've paid at the library.
With a large family to travel with, the Waverley Beach Camping Grounds provided the perfect place to set up camp. For a low fee of $10-$12.00 per day, you have both unpowered and powered sites to choose from or for $15.00, you can book the cabin which has beds for 6 people. The camping site is equipped with toilets, hot showers, a small laundry, a kitchen (which has two stoves, a fridge and several power points), and a hall/dining room. I feel the Waverley Beach camping grounds is real value for money. To top this off, there is a playground and bbq area behind the dining room, and two awesome beach areas. One "Cave Beach" has some attractive natural caves and a slightly rockier swimming area, and the other "Long Beach" is a popular sandy swimming area for both your two and four legged friends. We had a wonderful stay and plan to return here in the future.
We had a fantastic few days of camping at Waverley last February. A very chilled and laid-back experience. You simply pop your head into the library back in the town to pay up. Very trusting. You also get the key to the kitchen and hall. There are toilets and hot showers as well. The beach at Waverley is gorgeous. Some amazing cliffs and caves, and the sunsets are awesome. You even get views to Mount Taranaki. We were the only ones staying there. it may be quite basic for some, and there's not much for kids, but I had a 5 star experience there and will be back again for sure.
